To answer your question the people who drowned in the flood of Noah are doomed forever. They had many chances on earth to hear the gospel message and as for Jesus descending to Hades or hell that one verse that is used to say that he preached to them in hell was actually an inaccurate translation that plagued the NIV 1984. The newer NIV actually corrects this translation snafu. Still wished that Bible Gateway had kept the 1984 version. Sometimes I want to give them a piece of my mind.
It's clear that there is no repentance after death; so the spirits whom Jesus preached to were not the people that died in the flood. We do not know for sure what that verse is talking about. The spirits sound more like evil spirits than humans.

BTW, how does the correct translation read 1 Pet 3:19?

My translation is in bold. I included verse 18 for context.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, in which [spirit] also he proclaimed to the departed spirits [now] in prison, to the ones once being stubborn, when the patience of GOD waited in the days Noah constructed an ark into which few (this is eight souls) were saved through water. 1 Peter 3:18-19

I don't think it's our place as Christians to speculate on the eternal judgement of anyone. Let's keep our eyes on the King of Kings and Lord of lords, and preach His Gospel to anyone and everyone. Peace Grace and Love to all my Brothers and sisters.

In the case of those who rejected Noah and his message for over 100 years, I would have to speculate that rejecting Noah meant rejecting God.

And rejecting God means they are not going to be with him. And if they are not going to be with Christ, then it sounds pretty much like they are going to be in hell.

That is my logic.

I didn't know there was any other way to view this.
: )

I can't imagine God sent his judgment down upon the earth to drown a bunch of people he was pleased with.

I agree with you on keeping our eyes on Christ. This is just a thought that crossed my mind as i was reading that verse. Also, it's good to know some answers, as the very people we are preaching the gospel to may ask the same question.

God of Noah????????

You DO know Yet that Noah was speaking to the Son of God who was the I AM and is Jesus????

What do you mean by God of Noah? Are you suggesting there are many Gods?
Of course not.
I am the God of your father —the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.Exodus 3:6
At the time He would of been the 'God of Noah' so to say.

No...some were disobedient and perished in the flood..Jesus preaches to them in Peter...they never lost salvation, but did not believe the world was going to be destroyed by the flood...just as there are believers today who do not believe the world is going to be destroyed by the events of Revelation...

Yes.
Are they lost forever? or did they go to hell?
Will they get another chance to repent?
Was the message of Noah their gospel and their final chance to repent?

Ever heard of the sin unto death? It is for Christians/believers only. I believe there were MANY believers that died in the flood. They were so negative to God...........they died the sin unto death(extreme divine discipline/physical death)and God took them home.

No one gets another chance to be saved after death. And we have to understand that God is perfectly Just. Nobody in that flood who was not saved, was "surprised" on how they could have been saved. God is fair and just and is willing that none perish. He gets His gospel to every soul, they WILLINGLY reject it. Hell doesn't "surprise" anyone.

You're joking, right? You don't honestly believe there were believers who were left outside the ark?

"The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord." Gen. 6:5-8

My Scriptural understanding, or lack thereof, tells me that they are probably lost without hope.

However, I do not pretend to fully understand Eph 4:7-9
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
KJV

IMO, anyone who pretends to a perfect understanding of every verse of Scripture is either very arrogant or very foolish.

i.e. I can't be certain how inclusive all Israel is in Rom 11:26
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
KJV

I do know for a certainty that God is not restricted by my idea or your idea of what is fair, right, or just!

If the Lord said," I saw that their were no believers in the Land." I would agree with you.

Believers living in the flesh, can be as wicked as Hitler. If we ever say, " I could NEVER do THAT." We are lying to our selves.

"so now, it is no longer I who do it but SIN in me....."

I think we become to familiar with Grace and truly don't contemplate Grace enough. And we become to familiar with the discipline of the Lord.................We basically have it rendered to losing a lollipop.

A believer can be just as wicked as an unbeliever.................... he will suffer loss but he himself will be saved but As if saved through fire? We basically have this rendered to throwing in our dirty notes in a kumbaya campfire. This is not pleasant stuff for the believer who has gone negative.

I suggest Peter and those who were ONCE DISOBEDIENT and who Preached to them and where....Jesus did not go to Hell but Abraham's bosom....they were saved who rejected it was going to flood and perished in the FLESH! SO..ARE U KIDDING..BY YOUR PHOLOSOPHY THERE WERE ONLY 1 to 6 SAVED ON THE ENTIRE PLANET AS God spared Noah because of Noah's righteousness and if I apply your theology there will only be 1 to 6 saved on the planet at the end if the age...for the record I don't joke about the word and there is no reason for your mouthy response as you nor I know everything!!!

Ahhhhh some common sense here as applied unto Peter and his account of Noah! And I agree!

It says Noah and his family were the only righteous on the earth. It's God's judgement call, but Noah tried to persuade them for a hundred years while the ark was being built. They had their opportunity to obey God and did not. And God says you must obey Him in order to go to heaven. Now I can observe and conclude that 1+1=2, it may seem obvious to me, but it is still not my judgement call to make. God allows me to judge between right and wrong in myself and in others, but He does not allow me to judge a person's soul, not even my own. I forget where the verse is, but I remember reading that on judgement day a person thought they would not make it into heaven, but they did. Such a person bypassed humble and was way too hard on them self. No one is without having sinned, but you're ok if you obey.

Let's read the verses again:

[SUP]5 [/SUP]The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. [SUP]6 [/SUP]And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. [SUP]7 [/SUP]So the Lord said, “I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” [SUP]8 [/SUP]But Noah found favor in the sight of the Lord.

Believers sin, yes. Unfortunately, sometimes they sin terribly. But if one's heart (un)naturally pursues only evil all the time, I think it's safe to they weren't believers. Therefore, I believe believers weren't found outside the ark during the Flood.

All wickedness is not overt sin. Human Good is wickedness. A believer that says, " Forget the flood, I will climb to the highest hill and save myself."...................this is the majority of the wickedness that the bible speaks of.

An example is a believer that does "good" to maintain salvation because he believes that he can somehow lose it...........That is evil continually.

These were Old Covenant times, not New Covenant times. Times of animals sacrifices, not times of Jesus great sacrifice. Absolutely, Jesus died once and for all time for everyone in the past, present and future. For every one of their sins. But a relationship is reciprocal. People must believe on Him to be saved.

this makes no sense to the points that were being talked about.

Believers can be wicked and evil. Most want to place overt sin on wickedness, when for the most part wickedness is "trying" to be good to please God.

In todays Christianity............................"I can lose salvation so I have to work for God in some area.".....................this is WICKED and evil continually. Looks nice and sweet from the human perspective, but wicked and EVIL from Gods.
