Most people blindly follow Bible only when the world is full of scripture. You have to study the history of the Bible. They never said it was the only scripture. They used their own criteria for making the book and didn't claim God told them. They basically said it all had to tie together and have quotes from the old testament. Most of history the other books were accepted. You can even get them in new testament Greek and English on Google books. Not to mention that it stops scripture from being written today. If the Bible ended everything then why does it itself promote the gifts of divine revelation. Seems like a confusion to end something with books that promote it. I've thought about the Bible being perfect but it's really like saying God is perfect. Everything with God is perfect. Every good and perfect gift comes from God according to the Bible, not just the Bible. When that which is perfect has come that which is in part will be done away. But how can it be the Bible. They had Bible. It's like saying when the perfect comes the perfect will be done away. Because compiling scripture made scripture cease if so. Scripture got rid of those seeing in part scriptures? Putting a book together that promoted seeking to prophesy cancelled prophecy? It listed the gifts of the spirit but as soon as you read the book it's too late? Cessationist promote a dead Bible as perfect because half the New testament isn't valid to them anymore.

I believe in a God of Order and Peace.

The idea that He would want many books (those outside of the Bible) which often contradict what's inside the Bible to be a source of learning for His children, just doesn't sit well with me. It creates chaos.

If we look at history, I think that we find that many from the past (church fathers), thought long and hard about the cannon of Scripture, and indeed led by the Spirit, they choose well which to include and which to not include. They may make for fine reading, but not for instruction... IMHO.

Johnathan,

How do you know how to go to heaven except for what the Bible tells us? The gospel brings life. If that is what you want, then I would consider the following very seriously.

Your post is full of erroneous ideas about the Bible. Scripture by definition is different from all other writings, since it is a result of divine revelation or inspiration -- God revealing to men things which they would not ordinarily know.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:19-21) [Note: the Holy Ghost is God the Holy Spirit]

And therefore the Bible is regarded as the Word of God. It is divinely inspired, therefore inerrant and infallible. So who has been influencing you to write nonsense about the Bible?

There are some who seek loopholes in effort to skirt biblical inerrancy and enhance their own “truth”…Religion does that. When God becomes the object rather than the subject…. it seeks to enhance man’s wisdom to explain and rationalize God and His Word…… Like an anvil, man has beat upon the Word of God for centuries with his wisdom, psychology, and intellectual renderings ….those men are all gone ….the anvil (God’s word) stands unscathed.

It never has mattered to me what people say or feel about the Bible because the mind of man will always try to conflate, reduce, disprove and usurp authority over in effort to elevate themselves above or make excuses for their rational. (And some of the things you have said in your post are ….just inaccurate)

Truth is not relative or subjective to feelings ….truth is truth …it’s absolute …. the intrinsic nuance being there is only one truth. If the Word of God is not truth…. then what line of man’s wisdom (theology, psychology) are you going to tap for your configuration of truth?

There may be some who blindly adhere to the Bible …. That’s fine. But…. from the time I stepped into Gods arena, I knew (because of where I had been) and every day since then …..the more I dig the more gems I find in the precision, flawless accuracy, and details of Gods heart in the Word…. be it semantically or numerically…… It is prefect! ….And beyond a shadow of a doubt ….if you took all the geniuses of all time and combined then together …..there is still no way they could possibly come up with the written Word of God ….in its’ form, accuracy, and inerrancy ……On top of that ….when you believe the promises written in the Word ….God being the prime mover…. brings them to pass!

God clearly does inform us that scripture now is only of one completely integrated book from beginning to end. And logically speaking, were it to be of more than one, then none of them could be considered trustworthy (as being the source of truth for things spiritual and eternal). Therefore, any scripture which declares itself divinely inspired yet apart from the Bible, reveals itself counterfeit because Christ alone, and mercy and grace through Christ alone, will not be/cannot be its basis and foundations because they have already been claimed by the Bible.
Further, were it possible that there could be many divinely inspired books, we would never be able to know for certain when we had received all of God's revelation, and therefore, no one could never be rightly judged by God nor rest easy, because additional spiritual revelation could be forthcoming that would modify or even reverse the intent of everything thus far received. Therefore, for God's word to truly be God's word, it must contain a distinct beginning point and a distinct ending point, after which, no further revelation would be possible in order to know that we have received it all. Genesis 1:1 is that beginning point and Revelation 22:18 & 19, the ending point whereby the Bible was closed by God.

God's purposes for the Bible were solely to provide revelation and wisdom - the revelation of Jesus Christ as Saviour, and by that revelation, also the revelation of God's plan of salvation and judgment for all mankind. From this, and through the Holy Spirit, those who become born-again manifest characteristics of true Christians, retaining those within themselves throughout their entire lives. The truths that have been revealed by it are eternal unending.
Notice in Psa 40:7 and Heb 10:7, we are informed by Christ Himself that "THE BOOK"(singular), was about Himself, and that in Ti 3:16 - 17, "the book", also furnishes those of God " unto all good works".

[Psa 40:7 KJV]
7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book [it is] written of me,

[Heb 10:7 KJV]
7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

[2Ti 3:16-17 KJV]
16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

[Gen 1:1 KJV] 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

[Rev 22:18-19 KJV]
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.

Amen, and we do not have to 'follow It blindly,' as God Himself Makes Clear:

Handling The Word Of Life! (not death)

Amen.

even when i have truly been inspired or led by God, i made many errors doing His Will. and in my imperfections, God, is able to still complete His purpose.

Bible, is the same way, imperfect men wrote the Bible, but God used imperfect men to Spread His Gospel in both person and written materials. but for the Bible to be the Prefect to Come, God Himself, would have had to write it with His Own Finger like the 10 Commandments.

Most of history the other books were accepted.
What other books? The apocrypha? According to historical accounts, those books were not accepted
as inspired. The Apocryphal and Pseudepigraphical writings were preserved in the Catholic Bible but
not canonized in the Hebrew Bible due to a number of reasons, starting with their questionable authorship
or authenticity. They were all written during a time (400 years) between the two testaments when it was
acknowledged there were no prophets, and no direct revelation from God. The New Testament Jews never
included them in any Jewish collection of Scriptures, so contrary to people believing that books have been
removed from the Bible, the opposite is actually true: books have been added. During New Testament times,
without argument or qualification, a commonly understood body of books was in existence which the Jews
recognized to be the sacred and authorized Scriptures. What is known as the Apocrypha was not among them.

The Apocrypha contains a great variety of errors – historical, geographical, chronological, and moral, and
promotes doctrines which contradict the Bible. Without these apocryphal books, the Roman Catholic Church
would have absolutely NO support for their doctrines of purgatory, praying for the dead and offering sacrifices
for the dead (indulgences was a significant reason for the reformation). The inclusion of the Apocrypha in
the original printing of the King James Bible was strictly for historical reasons.

So you believe they put the Bible together under divine inspiration? Then there's still divine inspiration! Some of you contradicted yourselves. Church father's still got divine inspiration to you; why couldn't they have just as easily pinned scripture? And I don't see any answers to my supposed loopholes. How could the scriptures cancel putting out scriptures if scripture is the perfect? And how do you cancel apostles with a book supporting their office? The New testament is full of support for gifts. It's like saying here's the book not to follow.

We've been through this before on another thread. No I don't mean the apocrypha which seems to be your favorite. There are plenty of writings available if you search.

What criteria do you use to determine if something rises to the level of scripture?

Bro.....when (and if) you ever come around to actually understand the Bible, you will then (and only then) realize how utterly wrong you really are.

It is the real deal. And nothing else is.
