Well, first off all, I would pray for protection upon my daughter against such things since her birth. Jesus says if you abide in me and my words ask what you will and it will be done unto you. Second, if such was the case for another believer: Well, pulling a person off another person is not killing them. Surely you can tackle a person and not harm them and then grab the one you love and then run. Or holding the attacker and telling your loved one to run. There are many non violent ways to end a confrontation besides a gun and or using one's fists of fury to hurt another.
So, I was raped by five strong 20 something year olds.
1. Does that mean I wasn't a Christian, since God didn't protect me?
2. Can you pull off five 20 something year olds?

Good luck with that. I'm glad you weren't there to protect me. I did a pretty good job protecting myself though. (They just weren't expecting me to fight tooth and nail myself.)

JF's BF here: Does that imply that the woman NEEDS spiritual guidance from the man?

I don't think so. I know single women who seem to have stronger walks with the Lord than many single men I know.

I don't think male leadership is about ability! I think male leadership is about accountability.

People make mistakes and need to answer for those mistakes. God wants men to step up and take the heat.

JF's BF here: That is exactly what I want.
Amen, Brother. And you treat that woman right or I will hunt you down and chastise you severely!

perspectives on what it looks like to be a Biblical man.

Jesus was a servant, he washed our feet. Jesus is sensitive, who empathises and walks with us every day.
Marriage is not a heirarchy it is a team, and each member takes their role and gifts and offers what they can.

Leadership is about making sure things work, not striding forward and having pre-eminance. Once either party want to dominate the whole thing falls apart.

Love only works by being vulnerable, and letting yourself get hurt. Sometimes this means taking control, and sometimes it means letting go.

The problem is you can only give or be what you know and have experienced. Often you will model your family life on the family life you grew up with, and be attracted to partners who are similar to yourself. In psychological terms this often means you will make the same mistakes your parents made. It is possible to grow in greater maturity, and be something more but it takes time.

So there are no easy answers, it is an adventure, and often painful, trying, difficult, confusing, joyful, loving, beautiful, and the last place you would ever want to go, but with the Lord, it is amazing.

That is horrendous. Words fail me. If this happened to my daughter, these men would probably not be sucking air. I know that is my first reaction, but this is where being honest at a simple level works, and as things work through healing, forgiveness have their place.

I am sorry for you, you must still be hurting, I see it in your words. It is too easy to blast away at naive people, with things that create ptsd, and scar you for life, in a thread about what is a good husband.

At that age it must have changed you in ways you did not expect. I wonder how aware you are of this?

Here is my bf's response:
My thoughts: well I appreciate your responses and thank you all for contributing but I'd really appreciate it if we all just discussed the actual thread question of biblical manhood. Instead of throwing insults and fighting. This is a Christian chat and some of you aren't behaving very chirsitian even to each other
