No, not the speeding ticket you got three years ago for doing 95 in a 20 mph zone. I mean big ticket items, the expensive things that are (hopefully) built to last, but you won't be buying them out of one paycheck.

This thread is for talking about what you plan to someday buy. A little wishful thinking may be allowed, but mostly I'm interested in what you have your heart set on that you are actually planning to buy, that you are actively saving for and will one day be a reality.

Me, I'm looking at electric bicycles. They're not looking at me though... put an electric motor on a bicycle and suddenly the price jumps through the roof, through the clouds and makes a beeline for the mesosphere. I have a plan though... it involves a wal-mart bicycle, a motorized wheel and a battery pack made from LiFePo4 batteries and it should be less than half the cost, if I don't electrocute myself. I have welder's gloves though. If my amp calculations are accurate, and if I only use the electric assist going uphills, the battery pack should last to work and back with power to spare.

Ever go to a bank and ask for a loan for a bicycle? That's a good way to get some fishy looks.

This may not be quite what you had in mind but mine is vacations. When I was married my ex never wanted to go anywhere. He wasn’t interestedly in taking family vacations. I decided I want to save and take my kids (even as they get older) around the US, to start, and see all the beauty God has created. It’s not really an item but more of an investment in memories and time as a family.

That is actually exactly the kind of thing I meant. Something you are actively planning and preparing to get some day, but it's not something you can pick up at the local check-out counter for a couple bucks.

I have been planning, saving, asking contractors, planning some more, asking advices, saving.... for years to build a carport next to my entrance. I have it all pictured beautifully in my head. And the balcony will then continue from the front around the corner on the roof of the carport. And the I need French doors from the kitchen out to the deck so I can have my breakfast there. And it would be very cool to have a conservatory just there, so I could prolong the summer season. And then of course I should get a new kitchen. And it would be quite good to have a paved and heated drive way. Because I can't clean snow by myself, and I get very isolated in the winter. And it all adds up to a zillion money. Either I have to wait for some rich, unknown childless, rich uncle to die or I should marry a really wealthy guy. Or I could get a fourth job. But how on earth do I have energy? Anyway. That is my dream. And I would do some other things in the garden and add a solar panel on the roof, too.

1. Ripping down my current raggedy fence and installing a brown vinyl fence around my house

2. Parking pad

3. Landscaping

4. More travel

Having my great-great grandfather's mantle clock repaired by an actual craftsman instead of some yahoo who just wants to rip the guts out and replace it with a quartz movement. I've had quotes north of $2000 to have the clockworks disassembled, repaired, and reassembled in the case. Ouch.

Were do I start lol. I think possibly to travel..but not the back packing type of travel, too old for that now lol. I've seen a good part of Europe through my old Job, so would nice to see a bit state side (US). Doing a tour through some different states with a camper van would be pretty cool. But, alas, it's not going to happen anytime soon lol.

I just bought winter tires and rims for them. I have property tax due this month. I think "big ticket" items will have to wait until the new year.

I was able to buy a band saw this past spring... I think this coming spring may see a new drill press and air cleaner. The air cleaner is basically mandatory; fine wood dust in my lungs is hazardous. My present drill press, a cheap bench-top model, has a spindle with runout (lateral slop) so bad, I end up drilling a hole an eighth-inch larger than intended.

For those of you to whom the aforementioned was Greek, it said, "new power tools". :)
