Does that mean that having the Holy Spirit isn't necessary for salvation?

No, it means if you are saved, you are automatically sealed with the spirit.

13 In Him you also Trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

if you do not have the HS you are not saved, but it is not a requirement, you just are not saved, all who are saved are annointed with the spirit after Christ ascended.

i've been saying ALL THIS TIME, and TRYING to make it as PAINFULLY CLEAR AS POSSIBLE that it is THROUGH faith that we are saved, but apparently, you dont believe that!...

No I don,t// why

1. You say we must stop sin, or lose it ,meaning it is not all about faith (how many times in hear have you said that very thing)
2. you say we can lose it. which means it is more than faith, it is faith plus what ever you say we must do to not lose it.

saying it, and living it is not the same,

if you don't have the Holy Spirit and are not born again, you can't enter Heaven.

John 3
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

1 Corinthians 15

35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” 36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. 37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh[c] of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds.

40 There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.”[d] The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord[e] from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear[f] the image of the heavenly Man.

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”[g]

55 “O Death, where is your sting?[h]
O Hades, where is your victory?”

....what?????

....what?????

Let me try to explain another way.

It is automatic. does that make sense.

when you say it is a requirement, it sounds like you saying you must do something in order to be saved.

I am not saved because the HS is in me, the holy spirit is in me because I am saved. Thats why in the OT someone could be saved, but not have the HS.

does that make any more sense?

Selenah, people were saved the same way in the Old Testament as they are now. Jesus is called, "the lamb slain from before the foundtaion of the world." His sacrifice for us was so certain to take place, that people were justified in Him before He actually came to the earth to take our punishemnt.

God's Spirit has always indwelt believers of all times. See what David says in Psalm 51:
Psalm 51:11 "Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me."

If you cast yourself on Him for everything, you will never face God's wrath. If you fall into a sin, God will chastise you for it, to bring you back to Himself, but you will never lose your salvation. Just like when your parents punish you for doing something wrong. They may punish you, but they would never disown you or cast you away. How much more will your heavenly Father love you!!!!
God bless.

you can still think he is crazy though

LOL, cee.
00000000000000

Yeah, I hope Selenah gets it, Dear Lord....Amen. Poor girl .

The Lord leads.

You have heard it said, I'm sure. We are to tell others of the Truth and then the Holy Spirit will minister, we are but the vessel. And, IF we are a CLEAN vessel then our message will have that much better chance of sinking in.

I did like EG's way of putting it and also Ana's verses, the Holy Spirit is someone, not something, that we should sooo want in our life once we accept Christ. We should want the power of the Holy Spirit to move in us, work through us, help us, counsel us, just be there for us, in friendship, Love, for the Holy Spirit is none other than God . Just plain amazing when I even think about it.

How great you are my God in me !! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Amen !!! Praise and thanks to my Father in Heaven , who walks and talks with me daily, nah, change that, hourly, often, as whenever I speak to Him, I feel He is there. Hard to explain His presence but He is here with me, everywhere I go, anything I do, always by my side, even though He is much more than just all that to me. He is EVERYTHING to me. la-la-la. :)

I've always been taught that if someone who is saved rejects God and gives themself to Satan that person is no longer saved. I believe that salvation can be lost in the same way that a soldier can become a traitor. That's my personal conviction on it.

Your statement above is true:

Salvation through Jesus Christ is a lot like a marriage.

Picture this...Let's say that you live in a land illegally that is punishible by death if you are discoverd. The only way that you can be granted citizenship and avoid death is if a man who is legal offers his life up on your behalf and if his faith in his own power and his love for you is strong enough, he would be resurrected in three days time, at which point he would have to ask for your hand in marriage to make you a legal citizen. (You can imagine how many men in this land would step up to do such a thing for an illegal alien...lol) But fear not! There is a very rich and handsome man out of the city of Galalee that has agreed to make you a citizen.....PRAISE THE LORD!

Your only work in this process is to confess with your mouth that he is your husband or (Lord) and believe in your heart that it was his great power and his great love for you that resurrected him from the dead....Upon your confession and belief you are a citizen!

Just like any other wedding ceremony there were confessions of vows that were made. The breaking of any one of the vows would be considered Sin. Indiscretions with Sin will be forgiven by your Lord if you go to him and tell him of it, and promise to be faithful to him from now on. You have to be careful here because too many indiscretions with Sin and you may fall in love with Sin and lose sight of your first love...your Lord. It used to be that you would go to your Lord and confess your indiscretions with Sin and he would forgive you, then you noticed that your promises not to do it again were getting weaker everytime. Now it's been quite some time since you have gone to your Lord, because you figure..."I'm just going to do it again anyway...so why bother?" "He understands"..."I already have my citizenship
anyway." This is a very dangerous game...because the thing about Sin is that Sin does not have citizenship in this land, he has already been tried and convicted of being in the land illegally and his day of excecution has been set for some time in the future. So if you have rejected your Savior for Sin....have you not rejected your citizenship as well? In this land, whoever your in love with and whoever you truly serve, that is who your Lord is and if Sin is now your Lord, then you have an excecution date scheduled right along with him and his many other lovers....Oh, you thought you were the only one?...LOL!

If you desire scripture for anything posted above I will be glad to provide it.

Even if a follower of Christ turns from following Him there name stays on the book of life until His name comes up in the judgment. In the judgment of those who have given their lives to God which takes place before Jesus returns if a person is found to be without Christ then that persons name will be taken off the book of life and that person will receive the 2nd death.

In the judgement we must be found to be in Christ.

selenah, IMINJC's view comes with a flaw:

in a marriage, you can divorce yourself from your husband, and no longer be with him.
the same can happen between you and God.
