Post #225 only applies to people who honestly believe themselves to be
representing God's son. Not that others have immunity because everyone
will eventually have to explain themselves some day.

Matt 12:36-37 . . I tell you that men will have to give account on the day
of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words
you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Hmmmm....... perhaps this is why it is important for us to confess with our mouth that we believe in the Lord Yeshua/Jesus......(y)

Romans 10:9-10 King James Version (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Yeah, well, go to Wikipedia and look up your denominations. They are clearly Protestant from a historical context. You can't deny your roots.
Our roots are to maintain the one Holy Church, recovered from the hands of false leadership that sought to hijack it.
And Wikipedia is not the authority, the Holy Scripture is.

True believers are "rooted" and built up in Yeshua/Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:6-8 King James Version (KJV)
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

@Roughsoul1991 and @Deade

Hey guys, I had never heard of the five solas..... had no idea what y'all were talking about. :giggle:

Interesting........ Thanks!

The Five Solas are:

1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.

I agree, the Bible is the infallible Word of God and is the highest authority, but man can manipulate and twist the scriptures. It will take the Word and the Holy Spirit to rightly apply the scriptures.

2. Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
3. Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.

These two go together because Yeshua/Jesus is the Grace of God for us and when we place our faith in His finished work in His Body and Blood for us and believe He saves us.

4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King.

This is true. Only Yeshua/Jesus Christ is Lord, Savior and King. The Father in Heaven gave mankind no other - only Yeshua/Jesus.

5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone.

True, God alone receives all glory, honor and praise! Hallelujah! Just living this new life in Yeshua/Jesus Christ displays the goodness of God. He is faithful, He is merciful, righteous, true, compassionate, strong, mighty, powerful, etc..... all of God's attributes will eventually be displayed in our lives and God will be glorified in us!(y)

Thanks again, brothers! God bless!
It is just the simple Gospel with some old Latin theological flare. Basic core beliefs.

Some apostolic teaching is recorded in the Bible. Some is not.
Offered without evidence and refuted without evidence. No biblical record means no biblical teaching. Only the bible is the inspired word of God preserved unto this day.

To all,

I didn't join this forum to start pushing Catholic beliefs but I am ready to explain and defend them to those who are open to discussion. For that reason I don't want to start threads on particularly Catholic topics. But if you want to I'm happy to talk. I think it's better to start a new thread so that others will see it and perhaps join in.

Please can you keep it to one topic per thread. "Shopping lists" of supposed Catholic errors are unproductive and descend into chaos - even quicker than normal threads.

It's my belief that Catholic teachings are much misunderstood. There are many Protestant sites that seem to specialise in promoting distorted versions (justforcatholics is a good example).

Here is another suggestion. Start a topic with an open ended question rather than an attack such as PennEdd's "Your response to the Satanic catholic doctrine of purgatory and indulgences?"

Final point. No Catholic doctrine (properly understood) contradicts scripture (properly interpreted).

This would be funny if it were not so sad.

My point is that you are wrong.

As believers our roots are NOT to maintain the one Holy Church, our roots are in Yeshua/Jesus Christ alone. We're not busy promoting a Holy Church, we're busy lifting up the Name of Yeshua/Jesus in the Earth empowered by the Holy Spirit and God's Word.

We care for one another, but we're not promoting or striving to maintain ANY church.

Are you stating you can defend them solely on the basis of scripture? No other extraneous source?

Defend this using scripture.....

Mary brings us the gifts of eternal salvation, CCC 969, "Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation..."

And you have made the offer so I am waiting....

The Mormons say the same thing about their beliefs... with the same degree of validity.

Scripture is the final authority. If Catholic teaching is not clearly consistent with Scripture, it is clearly not biblically sound.

We are the church not the maintainers of the church. We are maintained by Christ Who is the head of the body.
