Yesterday returning from a seminar I met a man who stopped me to say "lady you can make a good wife" I just smiled and went my way. But it got me thinking,

How does a Christian single approach another single for a date?

what are some pick-up statements that Christian singles can safely use?

By the way inspired by @seoulsearch I am gathering the singles of my church for a retreat during the summer holidays. I wonder what we will be teaching, please any ideas?

Be sure you have a good strong stomach before you click on that. Some of them can be very, extremely cheesy.

Ok....
I got a "different" view in that you should NEVER NEVER NEVER date anyone you don't know a LOT about.

IOW.....you should date friends instead of acquaintances. So be friendly, generous, kind, and genuine to LOTS of people....
It really doesn't cost you much but time developing relationships with everyone. Get to know those who have a thin line of attachment in your world. (Attend your church, deliver packages, delivers water, sweeps halls, repairs equipment or whatever. Asking questions about them....

But I love pick-up lines....they are a fun way to flirt without doing anything harmful or wrong. Everyone smiles at the pickup lines I use... they are NOT intended for actually picking someone up.
Dunno anything about that.

The non-Christian dating scene is very predatory. People look for lines that will "work"; in other words, snag their prey. People, and women especially, can smell pickup lines a mile away. In my opinion Christians should avoid them. For the Christian, dating shouldn't be a predatory sport but an opportunity to share yourself and learn about each other. If one must resort to pickup lines, I always found Seinfeld's approach original and amusing. He came up with some pretty good ones, like: "You may not know it by looking at me, but I can run really fast."

here's one i thought of: after a Christian guy gets to know (thru a pastor & or friends ), a Christian woman reasonably well without being introduced to her, he says to her: "tell me what Caribbean island you want to honeymoon on"!

You are so right. But sometimes one will really have to go through the process of know each other because churches are getting emptier. our brothers are traveling out and those in church are almost married.

Yes pick up lines make us smile even if we wanted or not.

Let's see, definitively christian lines that you could only use on Christians:

The bible says we should greet with a holy kiss.

Christians don't shake hands, christians hug.

Nice Bible.

Can you help me with this verse Ecclesiastes 4:11 - two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?

The song of solomon is about you isn't it?

My life verse is proverbs 31.

I've been praying for more singles in the church and you're the answer to my prayers.

I've got this friend...Jesus. Do you know him?

Ice- breakers usually work best when you know the person well enough to tailor it to them specifically. But a good generic one (by my estimation) is:

"I see something special in you, and if its OK I would like to get to know you better"

However, when I suggested the above line to a guyfriend who didn't know how to approach a girl, he told me he "didn't want to make it weird" and instead opted to photoshop her into a picture taken off a local politicians' Facebook page. 🤦‍♀️

Can't argue with results, the girl was amused and messaged him back! 😂

Hi @Edith!

Kudos to you for stepping up and organizing a Singles Retreat -- that's awesome and I hope you'll let us know how it goes!!

As for ideas... I generally don't see myself as a teacher, so that's why I tend to start discussions instead, especially since I'm around older singles. I don't want to sound patronizing or condescending to those who have a lot more life experience than I do.

How big of a group do you think you're having? Are there people who have volunteered to teach on anything? What ages are you looking at?

My suggestions for some topics (that can also just be group discussions so there doesn't have to be a defined teacher:)

* How to meet other Christian singles (the question we all ask!)

* Safety measures to take when dating, whether in real life or online.

* How to keep God as the first focus while dating.

* Fun, inexpensive ideas for dates.

Now of course, this is just a sample of what you could talk about but it's a way to encourage people to share their ideas and experiences.

A younger crowd might not have much experience so it might feel more like "teaching" (so it might take some research on each topic to bring up a few important points to discuss.)

An older crowd will probably have plenty of stories to share with everyone and keep the flow going.

I'm excited for you and will be eager to hear how it goes!!

And I want to give you a grand prize trophy 🏆 for taking the lead in helping others! ❤️

I could argue, successfully, that you were at least an indirect influence there.

That pickup line might actually work. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though.
