How long should someone wait before dating again after a divorce is final? When is the right time? :confused:Are there rules to this? Any advice is much appreciated.
There are absolutely NO rules whatsoever, BUT just when you "feel" it's right to do so!

I had originally decided to wait about 3 years more or less since my ex-husband had left. Some of my friends thought it was crazy but I figured since it was 13 years we were together, 3 years to work on me was a good starting point. I appreciate your sound advice. I'm about a year and a half into this thing (it's been only a couple of weeks since the divorce was final) and I'm actually feeling really good. I'm keeping busy. I'll see how I feel a year from now.
It looks like you have done the right thing in waiting as long as you have.

I just wanted to mention that my response here was for the turd burglar who posted about mail order brides.

It had nothing to do with anyone else who has made comments on this.

I hope no one was offended by me since that wasn't my intention. :(

Hey you know, I don't know who you're talking about here, but what my sister does on line is her own business.

Hi Sillychick,

So sorry to hear you've been through a rough time. My son has struggled through a divorce as well. My heart grieves for the way the church handles divorce today.

Whatever we do, we need to consult God's word because all we do in our speech or with our actions is to be done to the glory of God in obedience to His word.

Here's a scripture that comes to mind. It's Paul speaking to the Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 7

10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

And Jesus spoke about divorce in Matthew.

Matthew 19

8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Please seek God in prayer and through his word for your answer. Opinions are a dime a dozen. We always need to be drawn to God and His word. There are other scriptures that speak on divorce.

God's answers are always for our good.

I'll pray that God leads you by His Holy Spirit and that you hear the words of His counsel.

Blessings!

I also would recommend waiting for a year before dating again after a divorce. The divorce rate for second marriages is around 66% and third marriages around 75% because most people bring their same baggage into the new relationship. Therefore, it's ideal to give yourself time to heal and learn from the first marriage to ensure you're entering a new relationship more whole. I'd also recommend reading blogs on Christian dating advice to gird your mind with wisdom before entering the romantic world again.
