Matthew always talks about the kingdom of God.
The Background for Jesus’ Teaching about the Kingdom Is the Book of Daniel
The primary Old Testament background for Matthew’s teaching about the kingdom appears to be the book of Daniel. Several lines of evidence support this conclusion. First, only in Daniel does Jesus’ favorite preaching topic, the kingdom of God, appear in connection with Jesus’ favorite title for himself, Son of Man. Second, the Gospel of Matthew is saturated with allusions to Daniel: e.g., Matt. 13:24–30, 37–43 (Dan. 12:2–3); Matt. 13:31–32 (Dan. 4:21–22); and Matt. 26:64 (Dan. 7:13–14). Altogether, Matthew contains more than thirty possible quotations, verbal parallels, and allusions to Daniel. Thus, a study of Daniel’s descriptions of the kingdom is particularly helpful for understanding the references to the kingdom in the Gospel of Matthew. Quarles, C. L. (2013). A Theology of Matthew: Jesus Revealed as Deliverer, King, and Incarnate Creator. (R. A. Peterson, Ed.) (1st Ed., p. 87). Phillipsburg, NJ: P&R Publishing.
So do we know if the study of Daniel is going to show us when Jesus would set up he kingdom by the son of David?
