do we or dont we follow the sabbath?

Why not keep the Sabbath? If we are free to observe the Sabbath on whatever day we choose, why not choose the day God Himself sanctified and made holy; the seventh day of the week, beginning at sunset Friday and ending at sunset on Saturday. Can anyone out there explain, any reason not to obey the 4th commandment. Jesus did. All the disciples observed the Sabbath,the way God wanted. The apostle Paul was a Sabbath keeper. Until the Vatican forced Sunday worship upon everyone, Christians always kept the Sabbath. Is there any reason, other than "I do what I want", that anyone can give for not keeping the Lords Sabbath? If it doesn't matter which day of the week we observe, why not keep the Sabbath?
Remember, Jesus said the first and most important commandment is to love God. Are you refusing to keep the Lords Sabbath because you love Him, or because you place more value in following the traditions of man.
 
In Christ we observe the Sabbath Rest which is the glorious rest (Isaiah 11:10) I can rest in God everyday and in fact I need to rest in Christ everyday. The veil is torn and I can be in God's presence through Christ I no longer live in the flesh, it is Christ that lives in me and daily I can fellowship with him I can enjoy that rest daily Monday through Sunday :-)
 
The Love of God is demonstrated in His Word and manifested by the Holy Spirit.

Here is what I feel about you, I do not want you to err. I do not want your soul to be lost. Furthermore it is my desire that no soul should be lost. Why? Because the Father's will is so.

If my scolding your misbehavior in public in stern love is wrong and your correcting your elders in public is right, I stand corrected. You do not know nor sense what I say to you or simply post and say, yet you know me. Very interesting. You have made yourself the judge of another's servant. A very dangerous assumption for anyone who believes and loves the Lord, Yeshua.

We were discussing the Sabbath. The Sabbath exists whether you observe it or not. It is not Jesus, though He is our peace.

You might try something new, that being to entertain the possibility of not being correct on the matter.

However, if you are content and with a good conscience in the presence of God about your stand on the Sabbath, and you can instruct Him as you do others about discounting the Sabbath, then there is no sin on your part.

You must allow for others who have yielded to Jesus Christ as having learned something from their conversion. It should not be so difficult.

Gal.4
[9] But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
[10] Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
[11] I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

The above scripture does NOT say that time will cease. Paul is speaking to those Jews that practiced astrology after being in bondage to those that served idols. Let's read a few more verses to confirm;

[3] Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
[8] Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

Now let's read when God made it possible to determine "time";

Gen.1
[14] And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

So as long as there are lights (stars) in the universe, there will be a way to tell time. Time will cease when God takes away the ability to tell time.


So again I ask the question....

How long did God say His Sabbath and feast days were "physically" to be kept?

But nonetheless in love of the spirit, again, I tell you that the Sabbath rest we have in Christ is of the deep things of God which you cannot find on the surface of the Word of God. I am resting in the heart of God's Word which is it's true make up and far more glorious than the ministry engraven on stones. Again Jesus Christ is the Word of God and we are saved, sanctified, healed and resting in His blessed grace because of His complete obedience to the Father. We are to walk as He walked which was spirit carrying our cross offering rest to whoever will listen and his love to whoever will embrace it. This is the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

I'm sorry but who here is trying to enforce their beliefs onto another? I haven't seen any of that here?

The sabbath days were holy days, and apparently Paul says I do not need holy days in this dispensation.“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days” – Colossians 2:16

When I didn’t understand this I observed them anyway. After all, one of the Ten Commandments that is still given pulpit time is the Sabbath commandment:



“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” – Exodus 20:8

It was not vain tradition and frivolity that made some days holy; God made the sabbath holy. As seventh day Adventists will tell you the sabbath day was hallowed during the creation week (Exo 20:11).



When God was creating man on the Earth to have dominion, he hallowed the last day as a day of “rest” just as would later happen after another man, the Messiah, came to have dominion on the Earth.





It pictured the time when Israel would cease from their works and their covenant promises would be complete. Peter and the covenant people of God are still waiting for this time of “rest”.

“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.” – Heb 4:9-10

They are encouraged to labour to gain an entrance into it, for it was possible that they could come short of it (Heb 4:1, 11).
Paul says that the Sabbath days were a shadow of things yet future; but the body [of the current dispensation] is of Christ (Col 2:17).

You Do Not Need Rest

We are strangers from the covenants to Israel, and their promised dominion on the Earth. The mystery of Christ teaches us that our dominion is in heavenly places (Phil 3:20).
More importantly we are not waiting for a time of rest for our works to cease. Those that believe the gospel of grace have already ceased from their works as they put their trust in the Lord who did all that was necessary for our salvation (Rom 4:5. Titus 3:5)
Our salvation comes with a complete position in Christ where we are equipped with all things (Col 2:10). We are not waiting for our sins to be blotted out as Peter taught in Acts 3:19.
Our sins are atoned for now, we do not wait for a weekly, monthly, yearly, or millennial sabbath to atone for our sins (Rom 5:11).
Putting Off Weak Holy Days

The mystery of Christ also explains how in this dispensation our righteousness and holiness comes from Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. It does not come from observance of holy Sabbath days.
It is our position in Christ that makes us holy, without Christ we are nothing (Eph 2:21). Only in Christ are we accepted by God (Col 3:12, Eph 1:6).
Observance of those days is a step downwards to a position where the rest only comes at the end of the week, month, or year. By turning unto those elements we are diminishing our complete holy position of rest already in Christ every day of the year!

Paul is correct when he says that those holy day laws were weak and beggarly:

“How turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? … I am afraid of you…” – Galatians 4:9-11

He was afraid because their orientation was towards something other than the one thing that gave them salvation: the preaching of the cross. Esteeming the seventh day as holier than other days in the week has the same affect of limiting the effect of the cross to one day.
As we magnify the holy accomplishments of Christ on the cross we should putt off those weaker elements and let no man judge us regarding not observing those once holy days (Col 2:16).

actually this is historically incorrect...the roman catholic church did not change the sabbath from saturday to sunday...

it is ironic that the sabbath keepers and the roman church are in agreement about that piece of misinformation though...

the roman church claims to have changed the sabbath and that they had the authority to do it...the sabbath keepers claim that the roman church changed the sabbath and that they did not have the authority to do it...

the historical fact is that both sides are wrong...the roman church did not change the sabbath...

this is also historically inaccurate...the commandments in the bible are not numbered in any version...and the variation on the numbering commonly associated with the roman catholic church was developed -before- there was any 'roman catholic church' to speak of...

in this variation the command against graven images is absorbed into the command against having other gods...the reasoning is that an idol is a false god...so that the two prohibitions are part of the same commandment... also in actual roman catholic translations of the bible this verse is not omitted anyway...

the reasoning behind having two commandments against coveting in this variation is that there is a prohibition against coveting inanimate objects such as a house...followed by a prohibition against coveting those things that can be 'enticed' such as a wife or servant... the two prohibitions were seen as different enough to be considered two separate commandments...

this variation and the alternate variation accepted by most protestants basically stand on equal ground...since like i said already the commandments are not numbered in the bible...

this is a good example of what i posted earlier in this thread about sabbath keepers often coming off as legalistic and self righteous...'i am doing the right thing and the rest of you are not'

this is historically inaccurate...if you want i can post ancient documentation that proves that sabbath keeping was abandoned long before there was any state church...

i saw it in several posts in this thread...though i wonder if sabbath keepers even realize when they are doing it...

it usually doesn't show up as 'do what i think you should do or else'...it usually consists of much more subtle insinuations such as 'do not be mad at me because i obey God'...with the unspoken followup of 'and you do not'...
 
Yes, Jesus is our Sabbath we rest in him. It is also they way He gave the commandment of communion. He didn't t give a definite day to do it or keep it. He just said "as often as you do it, do it in remembrance of me."

According to the Bible the early church kept the Sabbath of the Lord.
 
The early church met on Sunday cause the the law keepers met on Saturday. The Jews that kept law would not accept the the new church.
 
absolutely carey, that is the freedom Jesus gave us as a free gift, to choose to follow the sabbath or not. Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter

You guys talk of faith, and at the same time not keeping the Sabbath but every day the same. If you have faith in what God says, faith in the instructions that God gives, then you would know God saved a day to be holy for you, and you are to keep it in the way He instructed. If you don't have faith in God, and what God says, then you won't keep it.
