Do woman still want fairy tale weddings?

I think when Tourist and I got married the whole thing probably cost $6,000.00 or less.
That includes airfare to Las Vegas from Florida, Hotel for 5 days, my dress, his suit, flowers, marriage license, our rings were the most costly thing and the hotel gave us a free Thanksgiving dinner as it was never on our hotel bill for the $38.00 per person for the Thanksgiving meal we had. I believe it was complimentary since we got married in their hotel.
We gave the Pastor a thank you card with $100.00 in it for marrying us as he didn't charge anything and I felt we should give him something since we took him away from his family for a couple of hours on Thanksgiving day.
This was Tourist's fairy tale wedding almost - he wanted an Elvis wedding....me not so much.

You would really have a stroke with my Nephew Brad's daughter's Hawaii wedding he put $75,000.00 into that at least that's the number his sister, my Niece, Julie told me.
PS: But....did you see all the things that 6K bought? To me that's cheap for a location wedding.
If I had thousands to spend, I'd still want a cheap wedding then put the rest on either the honeymoon, or paying up a little on the bills so we didn't have to worry as much for a little bit... or if I needed furniture.... lol that's just the way all my friends / family down here in Georgia do it.
Not to mention...
Forget a fancy wedding.
$75K could also be an ostrich-sized start to a couple's retirement nest egg.

I agree with Pipp, I would rather have a cheap, simple wedding. In fact I would much rather elope and come back and have dinner at a nice restaurant with our family and friends to celebrate. So since I am going to Vegas in a few months I may talk "him" into coming along 
I think my Ex and I spent less than $1,000.00 on my first wedding and it was a church wedding. His father was the Pastor that married us so no cost there for church or pastor.
We just bought dress, suit, flowers, cake and wedding pictures. A friend took the pictures as a wedding gift for us and another friend did my hair as a gift. But the wedding was planned for 200 people.
So I get more expensive with age it looks like....

You're not getting more expensive.
You're just simply a victim of inflation.
Big, fancy, expensive weddings are a waste of resources. If you can afford to burn money instead of saving it for a home, your future childrens education, your retirement, then find someone in need. Give it back to God...it's His anyway. Geesh. A wedding should be about creating a sweet memory...not how much money you can spend.
I know it sounds crazy even to me but people who make money spend it.
I'm not so rich but really enjoyed the vacation to Hawaii and the wedding was lovely and the time spent with family was priceless.
Most expensive vacation I ever went on I think between my daughter, (who was an adult and paid for her portion of the trip) and myself we spent between $5 and $6K for a 12 day stay in Hawaii. Paid on credit cards for a while but it was worth it.
And that sister isn't outrageous for that kind of memory. That's the wedding and honeymoon rolled into one. Besides our trip to heaven...Hawaii is a trip of a lifetime.
That's how I looked at the opportunity when I heard my Great Niece was getting married in Hawaii we planned as though it was a one time thing and enjoyed ourselves as I may never get back there again. But well worth the cost and so much fun that we had with many family members sharing the experience together.
So I guess my Great Nieces fairytale wedding was my fairytale vacation.

Of course XD. But I also seen no reason why you should start your life together stressed and exhausted with a gaping hole in the budget where grocery money used to be lol. We haven't always had a lot of money in my family, and I have spent my whole life making less mean more and loving it. I see no reason why that wouldn't work on a wedding. The important part is the marriage anyway.
I know I shouldn't talk about other people, but I once knew a woman whose son married a woman whose parents won the lottery and when her younger sister got married they went all out. I don't know how much it was in total but they spent $5k on just the flowers...

I have to admit, I get REALLY frustrated when I see men posting on a regular basis that all women are after is money.
Sure, maybe some women, and I'm sorry that they've had those experiences.
But we women have had plenty of run-ins with guys who only wanted sex, and many of us still keep on believing that good guys are out there, too.
And these posts are proof that there ARE women out there who are different! It makes me want to jump up and down, wave my arms, and say, "Look! Look! Some of us really aren't just out for money, and many of us are working to earn our own!! There's a bunch of us right here, hanging out in the Single's Forum!!! Don't you see us? We're standing right here in front of you!"

I actually believed that while there are certainly woman out there whose main consideration is money, most would marry a poor man if he had the qualities she is looking for. Not saying it would be ideal for her, just that at the end of the day universal qualities like honesty, responsibility, good work ethic, protective, (loves God for Christians), sense of humor, and all that other good stuff wins out over money. If it doesn't, you don't want her anyway. She did you a favor.
In fact you know, I keep looking at some of these threads and posts, not calling any one person out here, just a general comment; I think it is so patently ridiculous when men (or woman) say all woman are money hungry, or all men just want sex, etc.
For me, if I was dating, and she came out and said that, to me about all men are sex fiends or something like that, I would question her maturity and intellectual level and/or emotional state.
It's 2018, I mean come on, aren't we at the point where we look at each other as individuals - in all our variety and personal experiences and hard wiring, whatever sex we may be?

I can say from experience that if the marriage doesn't last who cares how lavish the wedding is. My parents had a lot of money and my mom liked to show off. I was 23, just got out of college, and broke. Even though they had money and I was working, I still personally was still living at home and eating the food they purchased with their money.
So while my future wife and I just wanted to get married in a modest wedding my mom wouldn't have it. Looking back I should have been more adamant about it. But you know, at that age your parents still have a more profound say over your life as opposed to when you get older.
So she plans this wedding in a fancy hotel in downtown Manhattan not far from the departed twin towers, fancy food, - the works. Tons of people invited.
We honeymoon in Hawaii for a week and then San Francisco and Miami Beach (where we had an almost palatial second home) for about 5 days each. Had a great time.
But all the memories are tainted now.
While I have no issues with a expensive wedding and honeymoon IF YOU CAN REALLY TRULY AFFORD IT and both parties are on the same page, it means little if the marriage does not work out.
