Had a conversation with some friends. They have the in-laws over for a week. They have given up their bed for that week for the in-laws to sleep in, as in his parents. So the daughter-in-law is sleeping in a twin bed and her husband is sleeping on the floor.

Now to me, my bed that I share with my spouse is ours. In a way I feel like sharing your bed with someone is like sharing your underwear. If you are going to wear my underwear....well you are just weird and I don't want it back. It's a personal thing. So I kinda feel the same with my bed. My spouse, yes, she is a part of me and me her. But to give it up for her parents or mine? Nope! Sorry! That's ours!
I'll offer to pay for them to stay in a motel or something.

Likewise, if I was offered some other married couple's bed to sleep in, I would refuse. I would rather buy a tent and sleep in the yard than sleep in their bed.

A couple of years ago the kids and I were visiting a friend overnight. She kicked her son out of his bed for me to sleep in. She had plans that evening and wouldn't be home till late. I told her son to sleep in his own bed, I will sleep on the sofa.

And I know that when I go to a motel or some place like that, that I am sleeping in a bed that someone else has slept in, and in many ways it may be a lot more gross than sharing my bed with other people, but it is not someone's personal bed.

Maybe I'm odd (pretty sure of it) but that's the way I think!

Would or do you share your bed?

I would give up my bed to an old or infirm person. But, someone young and healthy gets the double bed in the spare room. Anyone extra, or kids, can use the floor.

I would sleep in Spare guest bed or sofa or floor. I wouldnt want to sleep in someone else's bed. I agree its just weird, not only someones bed but being in someone elses bedroom with all their personal stuff.

If dont have a spare bed or sleep out then I would offer to pay for guest to stay in nearby motel.

No way am I shelling out $100. I'll tell them how to get to the motel.

Lol. Not many guests have stayed at my place so I cant say Ive done it. But if they do you would end up shelling out around $100 anyway to keep them fed and watered and chauffered.

I think there is a difference between giving up your bed for guests while sleeping elsewhere, and allowing your bed to be used by guests while you are away (such as if they are house-sitting). In the first situation, it's just NOT going to happen. In the second, I really have no issue with it, as it isn't much different than with a hotel. I can see that others wouldn't agree though. :)

I think the best solution is a comfortable guest room, should it ever be needed.

I wouldnt share the bed when i already share it with my spouse. Its a personal thing. I find it tho when ur single it doesnt matter.
When visiting someone id sleep on the couch or so too. Let people keep their beds and rest

They say guests are like fish go off after three days.

Just in my experience that 1-3 days stay is long enough, anything longer they have to earn their keep. Plenty of jobs for them to do round the house.

A church where we used to attend asked us to take home a guy getting dried-out . He needed someone to keep an eye on him for 72 hours ,,,, until he could check into a program house.

They were shocked that we declined.

I’ve been a guest at a married friends apt. They gave up their bed for me lol. I was single at the time.

Husband and I spent the night at other married friends home, and they did the same for us.

At my sister’s house, husband and I use my oldest nephews room when we spend the night in town.

As for letting others use our bed, I would have no problem with it if it’s family or close friends.

I know a man who used to allow homeless people to stay at his house in order to help them. He told me that one time he prayed to the Lord because there weren't enough beds and the Lord said to him, "What about your bed?"
And so it was he have up his bed for this person.
It reminds me of the scripture,"Greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for his friends."
Hopefully his obedience helped bring souls to Christ....

I wouldn't give up our bed. I have a pull out couch that has a very comfy bed. And a spare guest room with a purple mattress, queen size.
They should be comfortable there.
I know I wouldn't feel right taking a married couples bed from them in their own house. Even when they offered. I feel that the marriage bed is a personal intimate space for the couple who's house I'd be privileged to stay in, and the couch would be fine with me.

As I look at all this "personal space", I suddenly realize I can't allow people to sit on the backseat of our car, nor the open floor of our van, nor our camping tent, nor about two dozen other places we "frequented" during our 38 years of marriage. LOL

Part of our culture is to always treat our guests warmly. We put out our best every time a guest comes to visit us. Best bed, best beddings, best seats, best care and best food...

So,sharing our bed would not be a problem for me... I don't know if my husband will be OK with that. I pray he won't care 😊 especially if it is our parents (his parents or mine) and there is no extra room or bed for them...I'll feel sad letting our parents sleep on the floor or sofa...I can't imagine myself letting my in-laws or my parents on the floor sleeping while we are on our bed...

Other option is I can let them stay in the hotel if they are not too old and weak to take care of themselves... If they are, I'll let them stay with us and sleep on our bed until the end of their visit. 😊
