I recall reading about these Bible verses, will use the NET for this:
John 1:45-47 Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law, and the prophets also wrote about --- Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael replied, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip replied, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and exclaimed, "Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit!"
Nathanael was more or less saying nothing good can come from that hillbilly backwater, Nazareth. Surely he was thinking the Messiah would come from good old, solid Jewish, Jerusalem. Now, Jacob, the father of the tribes of Israel, took part in a big deception, to get the blessing. Our Lord would have known what Nathanael had said, just as he supernaturally knew the woman at the well. Could there be anything funnier than, with Jacob and his CV in mind, "Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit!"
Other than the verses, also, folks posted about the Lord holding the evil in derision from heaven and a merry heart being good, I think Balaam's talking ass is hilarious, that the Lord would use an ass for prophecy to a man, a scene in my mind I always find so funny, ironically, feeling very sorry for the poor ass, at the same time.
I can't see the Lord Jesus as wooden. He attended social occasions, was even accused of hanging with sinners, and you know there is humor at social occasions. John wrote, John 25:25 There are many other things that Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. Being creatures made in God's image, we laugh, most of us like humor to some degree, and I believe there was surely much, like the incident with Nathanael, that didn't make the Bible. What we have in scripture isn't intended to amuse.
Think of this, can anything get more absurd, comical an analogy? Matthew 7:3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
I've never bought that "needle gate" argument, due to the Greek and it being a common expression in Middle Eastern lore of something absurdly impossible like getting a big animal, sometimes an elephant, through the eye of a sewing needle, believe getting a camel through the eye of a sewing needle humorous. Then there's the writing on the wall, that so spooked Belshazzar, a finger appearing to write on the wall the party's over. You've got to have a sense of humor, to appear as a finger and write your message on the wall.
