It seems Jesus is teaching a works based faith.

Jesus was a Rabbi teaching Jews to honour the bilateral covenant they were in. God promised to look after them and they promised to keep the Torah. The religious leaders of the day had forgotten the spirit of the Torah and in so doing had heaped up work after work after work making Torah keeping an impossible burden. Jesus brought them back to the true meaning of keeping Torah.

The Church was still a mystery at the time, yet it was (national) Israel's rejection of the Messiah that enabled the Church to be built.

Jesus taught what any faithful rabbi would have taught but He did make some hints as to the coming time of the Church.

It doesn't alter the foundation of salvation as salvation by grace through faith has always been the way man has been saved.

I don't belive its fair to say Paul is speaking for Jesus.
Hello again Nufan, I don't know why not, because that's exactly what the Lord Jesus said about him and called him into His service to do (the words of Jesus are the ones in red below).

Acts 9
15 The Lord Jesus said to him [Ananias], “Go, for he [Saul/Paul] is a chosen instrument of Mine, ~to bear My name~ before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel".

If you have the time, you may want to read the context surrounding v15, Acts 9:1-31.

Its sad to see the church knows more about Paul then Jesus. I would go as far to say that Paul should be challenged and questioned.
I've heard that comment over the years from others occasionally (that "the church knows more about Paul than Jesus"), but I've never seen any evidence in our churches that it's true. Why would we  After all, the Lord Jesus is our Creator .. e.g. John 1:1-3, while the Apostle Paul is simply a creature like us.

As far as challenging and questioning the teachings of Paul, that's been a regular practice in the church since the 1st Century, beginning with the Bereans in the church at Antioch.

Acts 17
10 The brethren sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things [that Paul and Silas were teaching them] were so.

As we are told in the following verse (Acts 17:12), people were coming to saving faith in the Lord Jesus back then because of what the Apostle Paul taught and wrote, and they still are today, 2,000+ years later :)

May the Lord bless you as you continue to seek to know and understand the truth about Him!!

To suggest Jesus is teaching a works based faith is to also say the same about Paul, as the things he wrote “are the commandments of the Lord” (1 Cor. 14:37).

It seems Jesus is teaching a works based faith.

Not sure what you mean, are you saying by obeying HIS word and being baptized in JESUS name is a work?

It's HIS rules obey them and have sins removed or not!

Since all of Pauls letters where to church he started, Paul nevers tell us how to be reborn in those letters.

So why would someone say Paul tells us a different way to be reborn?

Paul was baptized in JESUS name, Paul was filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues just like the rest of JESUS disciples.

AFTER we are reborn, then we have to work for HIM.

Satan's plan, keep them out of the water, if they get in the water keep JESUS name out of it.

None of this accusation matters. Does it line up with Jesus. Im pointing it out, now work out your own salvation.

Your accusation that Paul contradicts Jesus matters. If you are genuinely interested in learning how they line up,
then you should participate on the thread that is systematically studying that very topic, The Teachings of Jesus,
which is now citing the teachings of Paul that align with the TOJ. So far it has considered TOJ #1-20. HAND

Hello Nufan, concerning salvation and eternal life, the Lord Jesus said,

John 3
16 God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever ~believes~ in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 5
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, ~has~ eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

The Apostle Paul said the following,

Romans 10
9 If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

"Did the Jesus and Paul contradict each other?" This, of course, is hardly an exhaustive comparison, but concerning what they both said (in the verses above), their teachings (about salvation and eternal life) seem pretty similar, yes

God bless you!!

In Romans 10 Paul was talking to his church telling them to get out and preach if they want to be saved.

Question for you, are we still born in sin?

How do we get rid of them?

It seems Jesus is teaching a works based faith.

Jesus spoke to Israel about their promised earthly kingdom. Paul preached the gospel of grace to the gentiles. There are differences such as those of Israel had to endure to the end while gentiles could be assured of their new life in Christ.

It might seem that Jesus preached about works because the law was given to Israel and Jesus advocated that Israel keep the law. However, he did introduce the idea of faith specifically.

Joh_8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Even in the second chapter of James to the believers of Israel he goes into detail about faith presumably because those of Israel had been so focused on law keeping. Most wee unaware that they also had faith (trusting in the promises of God) while they kept the law. We can see with the Pharisees that keeping the law without faith was of no effect (they thought they had achieved their own righteousness)

Who was the first to the Gentiles?

What happened to them?

Do you think Paul only spoke to the Gentiles?

What instructions does Paul give us on how to be reborn?

I would need to conclude then that Jesus and James are foundation and Paul is secondary for a deeper faith. Must use discernment. I don't belive its fair to say Paul is speaking for Jesus. Its sad to see the church knows more about Paul then Jusus. I would go as far to say that Paul should be challenged and questioned.

AMEN, it is sad about churchs today.

I'm not sure why you say Paul should be questioned as I see him expounding on JESUS and HIS teaching's.

The ones who need to be challenged is those so called church's and people who thinks Paul preached a different message.

Still making every thread about you.

Your mostly correct. It was more he was bringing them back to Mosaic covenant. God never required animal sacrifice. Old Testament makes it clear that the Jews kept straying away from gods heart due to greed. Baptism was being used to replace animal sacrifice for forgiveness of sins. Jesus ministry was to restore authentic jewdaism.

These are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. I explained this in post #3 and you have not addessed it
Im ok with accepting that these are compatible. Unfortunately Pauline faith doesn't teach works and sacrifice. In this case im not disagreeing with Paul but the Christian faith. Paul does teach mortification of the flesh which is works.

Who are his witnesses. Oh wait, this is a self proclaimed experience. Kind of like Muhammad and many others.

I agree. Paul teaches mortification of the flesh and stresses to fallow laws of morality. Such as not sleeping with your mother.

At this point im ok with reconciling Paul. Its Pauline theology I have an issue with

Im still convinced that Paul is not necessary to follow Jesus and be reconciled with the father. There for I consider Paul as a testimony account to help me grow but not my foundation. I take it with a grain of salt. Old Testament is similar but more to show how we can waver from gods plan, and the fathers heart to reconcile us. Which god did through Jesus. If everything is proven to be false even the resurrection im ok with this. I believe that Jesus teaching and laws is enough for me.

It seems Jesus is teaching a works based faith.
Jesus taught Jews under the old covenant of the law.
John 14
21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Do you know Jesus commands.

John 14:15
“If you love me, keep my commands."

Jesus says keep my commands.

Luke 6:46
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?

Jesus commands obedience
1 john 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Gods judgment is based on how we treat others.

James 2:18
But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith by my works.

Again works based faith.

Mathew 16
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny[a] himself, and take up his cross[b], and be following Me. 25 For whoever wants to save[c] his life[d] will lose it. But whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what will a person be profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his life[e]? Or what will a person give in-exchange-for his life?

We are not saved by grace but by self denial and obedience.
Good luck with that. You do not know what salvation is. You deny the whole point of the sacrifice of Christ His death and resurrection. If you are not saved by grace, you are not saved.
