My sister in law is a nurse in one hospital, a neighbour works in the pharmacy at a different hospital, another neighbour works as a ultrasound tech at yet another hospital....that doesn't make me an expert by any stretch, but combined with what's being reported I think I have a decent handle on the situation.
What I'm reading, and its being confirmed by those I know who work at hospitals is that things as of yet have not been as bad as feared....there is some strain, but the system is not being overwhelmed at this point....of course that could change.
In terms of comparing covid-19 to the common cold....there's so much that isn't yet known at this point. Reports are that for a large number of people, the young and otherwise healthy....that the effect of covid-19 is in fact not much worse than the common cold...and with so many asymptomatic cases believed to be out there, perhaps one could say the cold is worse. But that's what we know now....we don't know what might happen with a second/third/fourth infection.....lots of people get a cold every year and its not big deal....will that be the case for those re-infected with the coronavirus?
Obviously for older people, especially those with underlying health issues....
comparing coronavirus to the common cold is just stupid....nobody dies of the common cold even if they're diabeteic with cardiovascular and kidney disease (a not uncommon trifecta).
So being kind and attempting to display God's grace, I can understand why a younger and otherwise healthy person might equate coronavirus to something as benign as the common cold...and ultimately I hope and pray they are right, but based on the information we have now....well, there just isn't enough data.
