YLT and SLT are better. And the KJ3 by J P Green is far better than any of those. Regardless I still use the KJV the most. I was weaned on it. But I have been studying the Greek since the 90’s.

I use the KJV also friend. But I look at the original at the same time in most cases. As to your question in respect to the average person, they should get an Interlinear, grammar books and lexicons. We don’t need to be scholars. But the in-site the Lord gives as we dig even deeper in His Word is so worth the time.
For me it turns a 15 minute devotional in respect to some given text turns into hours. Hours of prayerful thought on the Lord and what He wants to show us is so fruitful spiritually.

Jesus and His Apostles were not scholars trained in the carnal wisdom of men.
And they did quite well for themselves!
Well the old reformers sure peddle a lot of false doctrine.
The funniest one they have is God put sin in every little baby while still in the womb as they claim they are born sinners which of course is why they can't stop living in sin. They are sin conscious, got sin on the brain
Children don't even know what sin is.
A child will reach a point when he does understand about sin.
Sin is something that relates to God --- not other humans.
When a person understand what sin is - an act against God - then he becomes responsible for it.
The person we can thank for this horrid belief system is Augustine of Hippo in the 5th century AD.
HE taught that a baby is born HAVING COMMITED the sin of Adam and being responsible for it.
The church never taught this, and to this day, the CC does not teach this.
He was Catholic for anyone that may not know...but spent 10 years in a gnostic sect before converting.
I do want to add this to the conversation Qt.....
A person living in New York City, for instance, could learn Greek very quickly.
I know for a fact that it is not a difficult language to learn (Koine Greek).
But it will never be understood as a native would understand it due to cultural differences.
Unless a person lives in a country where the language is spoken,,,some nuances will always be lost.
I admire those such as yourself and @studier who have spent so much time studying the language of the bible.
The reason I admire you is because I know how much time and study it takes to really understand these huances without
having lived in a Greek speaking country. This, of course is addressing hermeneutics.
And, yes, it does take a scholar to understand the bible through the original language.
Most of us cannot do this and must rely on harmonizing all scripture -which is what I attempt to do to the best of
my ability.

OK, so you don't believe that God appointed some to be Shepherds. Well if you read the bible, you would find that He did.
He also turned unbelievers over to the wolves in sheep's clothing, to have their ears tickled.
I'm still waiting for you to find these illusive verses about God wanting to save all of mankind. You cited a bunch of verses and not a single one said what you're claiming.
Your denomination seems to have deluded you into believing this non existent nonsense.
My Bible says that God sent His Son to save His elect only, and He has left the rest dead in their sin.
Please find these non existent verses, so we can move on. Or apologize for making false claims.
You denied that every single person in history was born dead in sin. I'm not sure why you pastor failed to teach you this awful truth.
My Church agrees with the 1689 confession, our confession is very similar. Our confession is not our God, the Lord Jesus is our God
