Hi
@Lom,
I can totally relate to this.
I was adopted as an infant and later as an adult, I went back to the orphanage I started in, and it was utterly heart-breaking. It got to a point where I would be thinking that to buy anything (a coffee, shoes, etc.) seemed wrong because it could be going to a hungry, needy child that I had seen with my own eyes and personally held in my own arms.
So I've asked God for many years to teach me the proper balance in my life. It's something I always struggle with, and I think He's been very faithful in doing so.
I have a certain amount budgeted for my old adoption agency that I'm at peace with, so I feel I'm doing what I can.
And God has taught me to pair my regular prayer time with things I have to do everyday anyway (like dishes,) so I have times where I can regularly pray for both myself and others. I feel that God specifically directs some of my prayer time to be for others I either really want to pray for or that He puts on my heart.
I think the Bible also has many good examples for us to follow of prominent Biblical people who prayed for their own needs. Hannah, Abraham, and many others prayed for sons; David often prayed over his own situations; Paul prayed for both himself and for others in times of dire need.
One thing I love about God is that yes, He is very concerned about others -- but He is just as concerned about us. While we are to pray, serve, and give, God does not want us to neglect ourselves, either (such as the command to rest, etc.)
I hope God will show you a balance for yourself as well! God cares about not just everyone around you, but also you as a person, and He ENCOURAGES us to go to Him with our every worry and concern:
"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." -- 1 Peter 5:7
God bless you for how much you care about others!
I hope He will also reassure you that YOU matter to him as much as everyone else, and that He WANTS you to share your needs with Him anytime.
