Halloween and The Christian

Every Christian church in our town does a trunk or treat...harvest celebration..etc. Allowing Christians and those curious about Christianity to see that it's a family loving gathering in a safe environment with plenty of Christian activities...candy...all with bible verses on...Christian goodies and games. Where in Scripture does God say that you should engage in pagan activities in order to share the Gospel with those participating in them?

On the other hand, where in Scripture does God say to be set apart and have nothing to do with darkness?

All thoughts and intentions aside, what does Scripture say about this?
 
We are to invade the darkness with light.
Throw in an appropriate tract WITH some candy.
 
So, this is my take on it; and I've prayed about this LOTS!!! Here we go, I am preparing for the onslaught...

God knows we are not Pagan. In darkness, you need light. Basically I'm going to give examples of why you need Christians around for Halloween versus no one credible around. Either Halloween can remain fun and creative OR it will turn morbid and sinister. I dress my children in very appropriate costumes for school, they are now an example to others. They have fun! We go to our families whom are also Christian, hand out treats, and then walk the streets door-to-door. Are polite and keep the peace around the neighbourhood.
How about teenager Christian groups? Acting as enforces of righteousness, making sure people don't drive drunk or vandalize.

Anyway; I would hate to think how out of control Halloween could get if God was no where to be found!! You may wake-up with your car on fire! Eeek!

Do we think telling scary stories around the campfire is sinful, too?

I kinda look at halloween that way, its totally a holiday made to boost the annual sales of candy for the candy manufacturers, definitely. But other than that, its also a fun way to enjoy all that spooky themed junk that we often enjoy.

There are sinful things about halloween, definitely. Drunkeness, blood and violence and gore, and lew and perverted costumes, and I really hate those things. But having one month a year to decorate the house with spiderwebs and jackolanterns is fun, I enjoy seeing other peoples decorations as well as decoration my own home. And things like haunted houses, going into these places where people wanna scare you, while knowing that its all for fun, and no one really wants to hurt anyone, its fun too. I dont think the holiday in and of itself is totally sinful, just try to avoid the things that you know are sinful :p

And as for those pagan holidays, I /think/ its not really even on the same day, and just around it. And Im really certain thats just used in order to create a spooky hype for the holiday in order to get more people to spend money :p Everything in this world has satans mark on it, the bible tells this. Your not gonna find many things that dont have some old pagan attachment to it. If your worried about that, you better stop watching movies, and sports, and tv shows, and many other things you enjoy :p
 
I plan on watching scary movies and eating halloween candy, on halloween night, so does that make me any less of a christian? NOPE. :)

You post this, but you have the logo of a sports team as your avatar?
This in an earthly thing. And also even has pagan routes, as many pagans used sporting events as a part of their rituals. The mayans, for example, had a game that inculded a ball and a goal to put it in as a way to pick out sacrifices to their god.

Are you totally in line what what you are preaching?

I'm pretty sure his avatar is there as a sign that he likes that team and sport. Not to show it off as some pagan thing. MY avatar is of a ladybug. :) I like ladybugs, so is it pagan of me to put one as my avatar?? NOPE. :)

The same thing could be said of any single thing.. How's your avatar of Helga from Hey Arnold? It can become worshipping cartoon characters.

Well, thats my point yeah :p Sports have pagan roots to them, too. Does that make enjoying a sporting even a pagan, satan worshipping thing? Can you watch a sporting event and still keep your heart on the Lord? And isnt it possible to enjoy a sporting event while avoiding things you know are sinful?

Halloween doesnt /have/ to have all the sinful things attached to it. This year, my family and my friend wanna make some fun halloween themed treats to have that day, watch a spooky movie, and were even talking about finding an old abandonned building to explore (maybe). These are fun halloween things to do, and we decorate too. We have spiders, bats, skeletons and gravestones. And though some of those things can be attached to "death", we arent advocating death. It is all for the sake of looking "spooky" :p I dont believe any of these things are sinful :p

Youre totally missing my point here. Am I condemning people for enjoying something thats earthly while displaying an earthly thing that I enjoy?
 
With regards to sports... It's an escape for a lot of people. Just like music. Just like art. Just like any "worldly" thing that people can use and just happen to get famous along the way... But we see many athletes not only use sports as a way to escape their homeless lifestyle and make a living (because that is the only thing they are good at), but many athletes also use it as a platform to talk about Christ, and bring people closer to Him. Football alone, guys like Tim Tebow. Drew Brees. Russel Wilson. Kurt Warner. Tony Dungy. Basketball, guys like Steph Curry. Baseball, guys like Albert Pujoles, and lesser names like Ben Revere and Ben Zobrist. It's all what you choose to do, because God blesses all of us with a talent, and for these people, it was athletic talent. So tell me. Is it God's fault for blessing them with such freakish athletic ability, that they made it into the big leagues?

Wow, that's a HUGE stretch right there any Yoga instructor would be proud of.;)

There is a large difference between a game that happens to be played by pagans,

and a day created by pagans solely to worship another God.

Not really, sports were still used by pagans to worship their gods. Yeah, people who watch sports now /arent/ worshipping these gods. Am I worshipping them by putting spider webs and pumpkins on my front porch?


I cant see the difference between the two of us, here.
