How can I make prayer more fun?

Should seeking the Lord in prayer be fun? Doesn't the joy of humbling your self in prayers making the fun-part seems totally inadequate and inappropriate?
Hi melly4jesus...I bought myself a really nice journal and a set of little gel pens, i use it when i feel i want to write to God, sometimes i will write down what i am thankful for , for the things our Lord has done for me that day
...I make the paper look pretty by writing the date in one ink, then the header in another ink, then write what i am thankful for in another color, then once i feel i have given my thanks to the Lord, i read it out allowed to Him so i am praising Him from my lips ...Sometimes i just journal my day and tell Him how wonderful He is, i always write my trials down, i give Him my heart felt cries, i write Scripture down and see and know where He is comforting me, then when my storms pass, i look back and see how much He was with me which then goes on to writing a thankful prayer to Him...He loves our praises to Him, be it humming songs in our minds, writing our thoughts or just being still...xox...

Prayer should be emotional to start with. Many have this idea of prayer as making a list of things and people to pray for and going down it. Really that's only a part of prayer. It should be a time to share your heart with God, tell Him how you feel and why. If you're angry, tell Him, show Him. If you're grateful show that. Prayer is communication with God, it's not meant to be some funtime activity.
You are entering into the Holy Presence the Creator of the universe. If your focus is on fun then I'm tempted to think your intentions and mindset are not in a correct place.
Step out of the box of asking for favors and engage with God. Stop viewing it as an obligation but rather an opportunity to have an audience with the one that suffered and died, willingly, to save you. Once you alter your understanding of prayer and realization of what's going on fun will be the last thing on your mind since you will be engaged in something that transcends fun.
To try to listen, also. Prayer is a conversation. If you went to a friend and only talked about what you wanted how close would you be to that person? No one wants that, so don't do it to God either. He's interested in all of your life, not just the parts you write down to remember to tell Him.

Prayer isn't about being fun or not being fun it's about communion and communication with god, If your new at prayer then yes at first it may seem like your talking to thin air but the more you do it the easier it becomes and then it turns into something that you long to do with him even for just five minutes.
If you have been a Christian for a while and you are finding prayer to be more of a chore then it isn't prayer that is the issue it's your relationship with him. The closer we become to him the more prayer becomes like breathing but if we are to focused on the world or our own lives or just on ourselves and have not sought after him and to become intimately closer to him daily then prayer will seem more like a chore and your heart won't really be in it. I speak from experience and a lot of it when I say you can have the worst day of your life where anything that could go wrong went wrong and yet at the end of the day just that five minutes alone with him just talking with him and just enjoying being with him makes that entire day worth it
Hi Ugly...I do all that you have stated above, but in my time of quietness i like to give that time also to God, it`s my pleasure and there is nothing wrong in doing that...Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.I think it`s lovely and all said above...xox...

I think a better word might be joy rather than having fun.
When I pray I may cry and I mean really cry and weep before the Lord. Or I might be jumping for joy in my heart. I might be solemn or quiet ... each day and each prayer will be different.
The scriptures speak of bringing a sacrifice of praise to the Lord. So when you think of a Sunday morning service, there are times when they play somber songs or more worshipful songs that cause you to look within your heart, or they may sing a song that causes tears of sorrow or joy. Sometimes you're just speechless and just want to enjoy the quiet time with the Lord. And then other times you're clapping and almost dancing before the Lord. I see that our prayer time is similar way.
I might be angry, I may be sad or fearful. I might be surprised as to how He answered prayer or I might be praying too much and not listening. Sometimes I happy and joyful and praising Him for something He's done......well I guess I do that every day.
I think the biggest thing is to be real. Allow yourself or give yourself permission to grieve before Him, if you're angry let Him know why because He can calm our hearts at the worst times of our lives and He can bring peace to our hearts when that's the last thing we think could ever happen. He can remove severe pain when you're struggling with health issues. He can help you to trust Him more. There's so much to prayer and I don't think there's any one way to pray especially since we're all different and have different needs.
Like Rosemary, I have prayed by writing them out in a notebook. I haven't done it lately so thanks Rosemary for the reminder!
At times I read the scriptures out loud as a prayer to Him because the scripture speaks of my need or what's going on in my heart. I've been writing scriptures as part of my quiet time with the Lord......scriptures that are lifetime scriptures that really help me with the situation I'm going through. I might draw something on the page and sometimes I'll highlight certain words that catch my eye.

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.

Come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving

And His faithfulness to all generations.
This is a great way to approach God.
He's worthy of our praise and adoration. And what a joyful way to begin prayer. Have you ever sung a song to Him by yourself, just you and He? I sing a lot in the shower. SaveSave

Perhaps what you were trying to say how can you make prayer more enjoyable? Sounds like it's saying the same thing but it's slightly differently.
Making prayer more enjoyable... or "fun"...
It's not so much about the prayer itself but knowing who you are talking with - if you were to be with sitting with someone, let's say, your biggest crush, you don't need to worry about how can I make this conversation more fun FOR YOU because I bet you just being with that person alone is more than you can bear. In the same way, when you fall more in love with God, the "conversation,", i.e., prayer, will be more fun or enjoyable. He's always there, tremendously enjoying your company, what you have to say even if it's some stupid and silly stuff - knowing He enjoys your company and starting to enjoy His company because you are getting closer to Him day by day, then you will enjoy this 'prayer' thingie, which virtually is just saying 'Hey Dad' to Him and Him saying 'Hey Daughter' back to you.
There's definitely a time when we need to humble ourselves and come to Him as our God. But in my personal opinion, what He really wants from us is just taking a leisurely walk after work, in flip flops and in something comfortable like shorts, enjoying the beautiful sky the setting sun is creating, and telling Him about what your day was like - things you thought about or the boss who gave you a hard time - or the gal you bumped into at the elevator and thought how cute she was - He is your Dad and He definitely enjoys everything you have to say. After all, He knows all your thought even before it comes out of your mouth, so what's the point of hiding it? Telling Him everything, most intimate things you wouldn't share with anyone - He enjoys your "prayer" to Him. So, making this prayer process more fun, the answer lies in how close your relationship is with Him.
Hmm... learning what prayer is all about can be daunting, because most of the time the introduction to praying is in church, a home prayer meeting or some other gathering where other people are praying. It's hard to really pray when you're concerned about what people around you will hear, and you don't want to sound stupid.
The way I learned how to pray was, I walked out in the woods for a while. One, nobody else was around. Two, I didn't have any distractions in easy reach. Out there I got used to talking to somebody I can't see. And as Ugly said, listening is as important as talking - the second most important thing God ever gave me was not money, healing or any other miracle, but straight advice.
Of course you may not have a forest in your backyard, but any place you are certain nobody else is around will do just as well. The thing is, learn to talk to God like you talk to people you can see.

Prayer can be very emotional. I wouldn't call it fun exactly...but for me...praying in beautiful places where you see God's creation as well as feel His presence is really nice! The best is feeling Him and hearing Him speak to my soul! ; )

One thing I do is actually include God in things I do. If I am watching a squirrel play, I will really ask God to hurry and watch this!
Zip lining? Tell him to "Hang on, and enjoy this with me ... It's being done for you to get a kick, too." (He really enjoys parachute jumping.)

Good points above. I think when you make your prayer life more praise than request, God will reveal the good things of life more fully. We are given many great joys that we fail to acknowledge.
