Jesus answered and said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. (Lk. 20:34-36)
Well, it does seem to say that we are talking about at the resurrection, which, of course I understand that there is no marriage in the new kingdom when Christ returns because we will all be with one purpose in mind devoted to our beloved Messiah

That's what I'm talking about, false prosperity gospel, totally and purely fictional. Our ideal mate is Lord Jesus Christ who gave himself for us, He completes us, He stays with us forever, nothing in this world can set us apart from his love, not the vicissitudes of life, not the ebbs and flows of hormones. God's not a dating app, He doesn't owe you or me or anybody an "ideal mate", we owe him everything.
Clearly, there are many Christian couples that do good things, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with finding a wife. The scriptures is full of references, saying finding a wife is a good thing and of course we have proverbs 31. Paul says that in his view not the Lords, in his view it's better to be single like himself. At that point, he clearly says that's not a command, but rather his experience. And of course it's a good warning because there can be many serious heartbreak and sadness when people are not centred on the Lord and only centred on themselves. But the whole central metaphor of scriptures is about the church as the bride and the Messiah as the groom. This clearly shows the importance and the beauty of the covenant of marriage and it's value within the church. If the Lord shows us through Paul and the prophets how beautiful marriage is so much so that it is the very metaphor which helps us imagine the unity and intimacy that we will one day have in our Lord then clearly it's setting a path towards building healthy positive love filled God, glorifying marriages.

God brought Eve to Adam. If he doesn't bring anybody to you through a matchmaker of any capacity, either your friend, your parents or a professional matchmaker, don't bother with "finding a wife", dating is a waste of time and money, a godless modern invention.

Im 24 years old, and i don't even know if i will ever get married. The world is getting more and more insane by the day. I'm looking online and seeing how a lot of women "act", let's just say it's not looking good so far.
Online people are not the same as real life people, just like your interactions with cc people aren't the same as interactions with church people. Best tip I'd have for a young man looking for a wife is get in an environment where you can be around some christian young women socially. Find one of the slightly above average looking gals who has something genuinely interesting about her that you admire and would like to hear more about. Then go ask her about it and introduce yourself and if that conversation goes well ask if she'd like to continue the conversation over coffee. After that it depends on personalities and interests so you're on your own.

That’s how you think people have a mate? Because a matchmaker brought someone to them?

No wonder you do not have a wife!

You are opposed to dating. You do not have a matchmaker providing a woman to you.

I suggest going to God directly. If you want a soul mate wife, tell God about it.

Dating is just a way to discover who a person is. If you have fun together, a relationship can form.

I'm opposed to dating because it's ungodly and nothing could be more worldly. Adam didn't "date" Eve, the norm was arranged marriage. Esau and Jacob who did "date" end up badly, one grieved his parents, the other got tricked.

See,
What it is....
There's this thought that "love thy neighbor" is just a good suggestion instead of a moral imperative.
It's not exactly a passive thing. It requires a LOT of action of getting the neighbor to actually tell you about themselves so you can love them in a manner that will be well received.

It's not just an absence of hostilities.

And this person hasn't actually read the scriptures with anything resembling understanding obviously. They are a troll here to teach their theology....not truth.

Dating is fun, but I don't do it to find a spouse. Its just getting out of the house (going out with someone, in nz it's just called going around)
I don't like to be tied down, the thought of it is nauseating and suffocating.

One of my church friends told me her son, who's wedding I attended - in church, has split up with his wife, who he met through a uni christian fellowship. He married her at 24, he's now 35. They didn't have children and I don't think she worked after getting married. It sounded like the split was nasty as now they are only speaking through lawyers. The one car they shared she left to him at the police station so he could pick it up from there. ?!

I guess for some people, marriage is not a good idea, even if they are both Christians. I can't judge their salvation, obviously they were not saved due to marrying each other because if they were they wouldn't part and they are both still alive. I don't know them that well, but they were both quite young when they married.

Lots of people I know that are christian have been divorced and their spouses were Christians too, they met in church, had church wedding, some were even ministers. So...?? I don't think any of them married again. Some had children, some didn't. Some worked, some didn't. Some were unfaithful - some it was the wife, some it was the husbands. None of them thought, going into marriage, that it would end so badly.

This is not gossip, as sadly it happened - of the pastors that I know, one was married and his wife died, went to her funeral. They had children but the children didn't go to their church, I think by the time I went they were grown up and married, but I do know one of their daughters (shock horror) fell pregnant out of wedlock, not sure if she married her partner. I don't think they disowned her, but the grandchild lived with the grandad for a while after his wife died. His wife worked as a nurse and apparently that was (shock horror) scandalous as pastor's wives were not meant to work outside the church/home.

There are more stories of sadness and woe in marriages amongst Christians in church but I don't want to recount ALL of them here as it may put people off marriage and their desire to find a spouse. I'm sure there are happier stories, but I don't really know that many. Maybe it's just in my country, marriage is a lot harder on couples.

It could be that second marriages are better, or maybe third time's the charm for some. IDK. I don't want to put people off.

It is not simple to ignore all social pressures and assure yourself that it is a badge of honor to spend the rest of your life and enter the afterlife as an undefiled virgin, never having laid a hand on any woman - or man.
To be honest that sounds like incel drivel with hopes of trying to sound noble.

Not all church elders or ministers or pastors are married, and definitely not those in the catholic church. So yea.
Paul wasn't a pastor, he was an apostle, and an evangelist.
Well, I understand that. I was just making the point that lots of people say that singleness is good because it allows you more freedom or more time to "do ministry." But I don't think that's what Paul's original point was.

What do you think was his point? Just wondering.

I guess the difference between celibates and incels is the incels don't actually want to be celibate and complain about it?
Those truly celibate aren't complaining or feel the need to defend their celibacy.

Paul basically says here that an unmarried person is devoted to the Lord and not distracted by the needs of his spouse. This is then interpreted by some to mean that a person can do "more ministry" as a single.

I don't think that's what Paul says here. I mean, if that's the case, why are all the pastors and church elders typically married? Did they make a mistake? Is marriage getting in the way of their ministry? What Paul says here, I believe, is that if you aren’t distracted by the desire for marriage, then maybe you have the gift of singleness.

Of course, in English, "distracting" has a negative connotation, so we often bring that into play when reading or teaching this passage. But it seems more like Paul might have merely been making the elementary observation that marriage, or the search for marriage, can place more demands on your time and attention than the life of someone who is genuinely content with being single (like Paul was) But, of course, Paul said that not everyone is like him, a single man content with being single.

Yes, it's normal, but don't worship it as an idol, the measure of success, the only meaningful pursuit in life, and use it as a frame of reference to judge other people and yourself. What's wrong about it is that such desires reduce you to an animal, and even animals have regular seasons for mating, humans are lustful any time, all the time. And when such desires are unsatiated, or not sufficiently satiated, it would become the root of all your agonies.
Just because someone has strong desires for romance, marriage or sex doesn't mean their "worshipping" it as an "idol." or that they believe it's life's only meaningful pursuit. There's no off-switch for these sorts of things.

Unfortunately, when you're a Christian single and you express these desires, well-meaning people will often accuse you of that. That's not what Paul, did though. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul mentions people who "burn with passion" and he says that it's actually better for those people to marry.
