Permission to sex. Better to marry than burn in passion, a more worldly, destructive distraction.
I wonder of Adam burned with passion before Eve was created. Somehow I doubt it.

Scripture seems to indicate he was lonely. God said it was not good for him to be alone.

He's not qualified to teach anyone....
What you thinking? He's a bot who specialises in absurdities, sent to disseminate them with conviction and confidence? Or has his day job, risk management, bled into the entire sum of his substance?

All joking aside, I'm sure we'd all want to see him at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. 🙏

Wozza wozza? Wot did I miss?

How long is a piece of string again?

I haven't been paying attention, I was too busy blissfully ignoring you.

That's a good question. God created Eve later, and presumably he had his reasons for that. The answer seems to be implied in the text, I think.

In Genesis 2:20 we're told that “The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.”

Each animal lived in community with other animals. But Adam was alone. It seems like God wanted Adam to recognize his aloneness before God before God created a wife for him. Perhaps God saw it as necessary for Adam to feel his need in order for the fulfillment to be actually satisfying.

If Adam and Eve had been created at the same time, this aspect of human community or companionship wouldn't have been as conspicuous. The man’s solitary existence was the only thing called “not good” in all of creation.

Thats constantly seen as justification for marriage.
Adam and Eve, but thing is Adam actually had no mother or father to leave and then cling to his wife.
And then what about Cain where did his wife come from? Was she made out of his rib too?

Of course, at the time, there were no other people on earth, so of course he was alone. It would have only been maybe at most a day or so or even a couple of hours (though days were either much longer or shorter then) and Adam had no one like himself to talk to or help him.

But today I think we are spoiled for choice especially if we live in a city with more than a million people, we are not alone. We can have whole teams of scientists going around classifying animals and giving them names lol.

Also in the days of Noah, everyone was taking wives of whoever they chose. It says in the Bible.
But lets fast forward to the days of Jesus. He talked about the days of Noah where people just went on marrying and being given in marriage. Until the flood came and swept them all away. So anyway. Marriage doesn't necessarily give you immunity from hell.

Maybe only because Noah just had ONE wife, he was the only survivor of that flood along with his sons and their wives. And of course only two animals of each kind were selected, male and female, so they could reproduce. But I do recall they had more of the clean animals.

Note that in Genesis one of the ancestors had TWO wives, was it Lamar. And I think that was not ideal, unless there was less ratio of women to men. IDK. Polygamy was accepted even after the flood even Jacob practiced it, and he was the father of all the Patriarchs. They not only had many wives, they had concubines.

Indeed, and it always rather strikes me as strange that the animals were presented as if a suitable mate for Adam could have been found among them, although the text says he was to name them, it also says no suitable mate was found among them. I suppose it could be because the Golden Retriever was not in existence until developed in Scotland in the 1860s, and Labrador Retrievers were not in existence yet either, that happening the 1500s in Newfoundland, Canada.🤣;):giggle::giggle::giggle:

Talking in circles, aren't we.

I guess I don;t have the sagacity to comprehend the nuance, then. All I know is that regardless of intensity, desire for marriage with your existing partner upon a matured relationship is OK, desire for marriage with a stranger, an imaginary figure or nobody in mind at all, that's not OK.
You sure do seem to like them straw man type arguments. You set them up, then you knock them down, but nobody else is saying those things you set up to knock down.

Just like nobody else is saying they are so desperate for marriage that they would either like to have a spouse or be allowed to die. You set that one up, then you knocked it down. But nobody else here was saying anything even remotely close to that.

Yea, but did they have porcupines? It's a prickly question, but somebody had to ask it.
Not sure what the answer to that is.

Supposedly Adam named all the animals...so, he must have come across a porcupine at some stage.

sorry got names mixed up. I know it was Lam something.
Yea I don't know who that guy is, he looks a bit fierce.
That's Lamar Jackson. He's an NFL quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. NFL stands for National Football League.

The string is long...there are mountains in our way...but we'll climb the steps everyday...

Did you know...Sir Edmond Hillary had help getting up Mount Everest. He didn't do it alone. He had his trusty Nepalese sherpa, Tenzin Norgay,
His wife stayed home. I don't think she helped him. His first wife tragically died in a plane crash, and then he married again.

His face is on the $5 note. I never met him, but plenty of people did and knew him and said he was an ordinary bloke who just wanted to climb the highest mountain. Nothing venture, nothing win.

Apparently he didn't believe in God, or at least, didn't profess to be a Christian, so he didn't give God the glory for climbing that mountain...and Tenzin was sort of overlooked as his sherpa.

Marriage and sex is a worldly, destructive distraction? Then why did God create those things at the beginning, when the world was perfect? And why did people like Jesus and Paul allow them?
Did either allow fornication? And why did God even create Eve for Adam, knowing she'd cause him sin, as Adam latter accused her and subtly accused God of bringing her to him?

That doesn't answer my question. You said marriage was an abstract concept. Perhaps you meant serial monogamy was an abstraction of man? Arbitrariness, in an attempt to evade accountability or consequences?
Marriage is only a real thing when you're already in an existing committed relationship with an existing partner. I mentioned it many times that there's a progression of your "other half's" perceived identity - stranger, crush, acquaitance, companion, girlfriend, confidante, fiancee, bride, wife, mother. If you desire marriage, and yet you have nobody or just an imaginary figure to marry, than how is that not an abstract concept?
It's reasonable for a single man or woman to hold the conceptual desire to marry. The conviction of those who are drawn to the idea and values of lifelong companionship and family building are no less valid.
No it's not. It's foolish and idolatrous.
I never asserted that being concatenated in one body was synonymous with marriage?
And yet that's a common misconception, "join your wife and become one flesh" has morphed into "join your soul mate and get married". This is nothing but a variant of the false prosperity gospel.
What God has put together, let no man separate. Such an explicit statement has to be apropos to marriage. Prioritising reconciliation over separation. We all know that fornication isn't a vehicle for something God would want to put together and keep together.
No sir, in that context it was an affirmation on the sancitity of marriage and a disapproval on no fault divorce. And the vice versa is equally true - what God has NOT put together, let no man put together either.

And that's not just my opinion. In eastern Asian countries there has been many dating events organized by the government or spontaneously, in attempt to boost the abysmally low marriage and birth rate, yet there's either nobody shows up, or corporations dropping by to sell stuffs, or women overwhelmingly outnumber men, like 50 to 1.
Marriage or preoccupation with an idealised version of marriage, especially the desperate desire to be rescued from single life, is a potential distraction. But your hypothetical projections are not always the unarguable state of things.

I have no problem with some of your deductive reasoning. The premise and conclusion is true. Marriage ain't for everyone, and it is better not to marry. But that doesn't mean it's advantageous for us all to remain single. It's not to your detriment to make allowance for those who chose or want to experience what married life can bring.
It all depends on both your discernment of the time and the faithfulness of your partner. If it's a time of distress, like ever since COVID, you can hardly make a living to sustain yourself, how are you supposed to sustain a partner and kids?

Then you better consider whether your partner would bring you closer to God or farther away, and whether you'd bring your partner closer to God or farther away. Keep in mind that not everyone regards the bible as the highest authority, many regard the Supreme Court and its rulings, including many Christians. And one of their landmark ruling is the recogniztion of same sex union as marriage in 2015. If you have a partner who's affected by such distorted defition of marriage, then it's absolutely advantageous to remain single. I'd say until this ruling is overturned, like Roe v Wade, remain single.

You're absolitely right, I doubt it too, for it was God determined it was not good, not Adam himself! He was pretty happy and preoccupied with tending the garden. If you're burned with passion, that'd be you yourself being taken over my your own lust of flesh, not the will of God.
