Again, I agree that verses 8 and 9 go together, but that doesn't negate the fact that Peter's comment applies to other parts of the passage as well.

I already gave you an example in relation to Jesus' coming as a thief in the night and the new heavens and the new earth.

Those two events are 1000 years apart.

The first ushers in Christ's Millennial Reign, and the second closes it out.

That said, they're both a part of the coming "day of the Lord".
Amen, but this does not imply that the day-night cycle God instituted in the beginning is 1000 years. Many people try to use Peter's verses to undermine the truth of Creation week. They try to tell us that the flowers had to wait 1000 years for the Sun to rise. :rolleyes:

7 days were 7 literal 24-hour days, they represent 7000 years for the entire human history.

I'll make one more attempt to clarify this for you or others who might be following this conversation, and then I'll move on.

Immediately thereafter, John "saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away" (Rev. 21:1).

THIS IS GOD'S TIMELINE in relation to "the day of the Lord", whether anybody here or elsewhere agrees with it or not.

My advice to anybody reading this is to agree with it because to fight against it is to fight against the written and revealed word of God.

Anyhow, as I rightly stated from the beginning, the coming "day of the Lord" is a 1000-year timeframe, just like Peter said that it is, and the two separate events that he equated with this "day" transpire 1000-years apart from each other.

Peter warned us NOT to be ignorant of this reality.

At my end, I'm heeding his advice.

Whatever anybody else chooses to do with Peter's admonition is entirely up to them.

In genesis yom, the day, was evening to morning. But it’s understood as what we mean by 24 hours. The literal meaning of a word though does not decode the genre of the text though. Contextual analysis shows that genesis 1-2 , for a fact 1-11, is written in a non literal format such as a myth and not as a literal autobiographical history.

Someone mentioned that the theory of evolution is not compatible with the Bible. That’s not true. The theory of evolution is a scientific interpretation ( the best one ) of some of the questions we find answered in nature. The creation account is a story found primarily in genesis 1-2 and its interpretation varies. Some read it literally through concordism. Some read it in a non literal way supporting accommodation. So there is no battle between science and faith. Just science against some peoples specific faith and interpretation. For me there is no issue between accepting the clear cut evidence of evolution and accepting the story told in genesis 1-2 because of its genre and purpose. Same as I don’t have a issue with meteorology and the Bible. But if you take the Bible literally, you can’t honestly accept meteorology.

The problem is that science has largely been infected with anti-theistic naturalism resulting in interpretations of the observed world that are contradictory to the revealed word of God.

Evolution (naturalistic macroevolution) depends on assumptions that are outside of science. They are untestable, unobservable, unrepeatable, and not falsifiable through normal means of investigation.

Within the Holy Bible, I can find not one statement or proof that a "day" to God is an exact period of 24 hours. So much of the inspired words of the Bible are symbolic. One writer's commentary on the book of Revelation made a great observation: "The Book of Revelation does not mean what it says. It means what it means." How true! Most of Revelation is symbolic in nature. Why not in Genesis as well? The scriptures were given to mankind thousands of years ago, back when there were no computers, telescopes, or the ability of most people to communicate with others beyond a short distance. It seems to me, that God inspired the writers of the scriptures to put His Word in terms that the people of the time could relate to and understand. I have a struggle comprehending the concept of "a million years" .... the people at the time of the writing of Genesis would have no basis of understanding much beyond the physical world they lived in, hence, a "day" to them was the "period of time" from sunrise to sunrise, or 24 hours. This is certainly an easy and convenient way of rationalizing the Creation story, but I know of no proof that God's "day" is limited to 24 hours. Likewise, what is important to believe is that "God created". God does not elaborate on the process He used to create. We could not understand anyway. That it was HE that CREATED is the only truth needed to believe the events of creation. Comments?

A day to the Lord is as a thousand years but the Lord set 24 hours to be our official length of our day.
He set the rotation of the earth in place and yearly cycle so that we have order. A God of Order.
To say creation took longer then 6 days is evil.
