I'm doing this for someone and they told me to take whatever amount of money I want. I have no idea how much I should get for doing taxes and for taking care of bills. What should I tell or suggest this person? They don't want to come up with an amount

Obviously this someone is trying to save money by having you do this. Unless this someone is totally poor I would charge a nominal sum but yet make it worth your while. You have to figure what your time is currently worth per hour and how bad you need the extra money. Filling out taxes for someone else can be very time consuming unless you are totally familiar with their situation. I suggest a minimum fee of $25 an hour. You will have to do an estimate of how long this project will take. If this someone declines I would not lose any sleep over it. If this someone really cannot afford anything I would do it free of charge or at a discount.

I could but I haven't been working since beginning of March due to an injury and my job terminated me bc I couldn't get my LOA papers in to them on time so I don't have much money coming in right now. My job screwed me over so the only money I have coming in is a little I make on eBay. I've lost a lot of money. I'm doing whatever I can to make money bc I really need it.
Plus this person and I do things for each other often but this time, I'd appreciate getying paid for all this
The taxes were difficult and the bills were tough bc the places didn't always want to talk to me but him so I had to do email only which made things rougher for me.
Well, if they absolutely insist on paying you, and refuse to set their own price, then I would say ....maybe $50 would be rather fair..
It would depend..if it is for one day, I would do it for a set price of yeah $50. If more than a day, I would do minimum wage.
I was faced with the same situation, but instead of taxes, it was housekeeping! Should I have not taken the job? Even though they were so happy with my work, they actually paid me double in the end.
See how any hours it takes and then charge them a fair price.....if they volunteered to pay you there is nothing wrong with taking the money.....My taxes cost me about $150 to get done by HR Block....and as far as the rest...that is up to you and the person you are working for.....
I'd look into the laws in your state prior to charging to do anything related to taxes. Some states prohibit anyone but a CPA (or equivalent) from doing someone else' taxes.
