[Act 17:11 KJV] 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

When you hear a preaching, teaching, or just talking scripture... Don't take their word for it. Don't take them at their word about what the Bible says. Look it up for yourself. Study to see if what they are saying is true. If you do so, then consider yourself noble.

LOL... Well, since noble means...

Belonging to a hereditary class with high social or political status; aristocratic. Having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.

I see that you can be noble and ladylike at the same time. If that is what you want. ...lol

"more noble" = Greek word eugenesteroi – made up of two Greek words:

eu = well, well done, good, rightly

ginomai = properly, to emerge, become, transitioning from one point (realm, condition) to another

The Bereans were not more noble in the sense that we currently believe. The current definition of "noble" is honorable, high social / political status, aristocratic.

Because the Bereans readily received the Word of God and searched the Scriptures to ascertain whether "those things" they were hearing were true (according to the Scriptures), they were growing stronger in faith. They were moving from faith to faith - the just shall live by faith (Rom 1:17, Gal 3:11, Heb 10:38).

Of course, when the jews in Thessalonica heard about that, they went to Berea to stir up the people (Acts 17:13). The believers had to send Paul away (Acts 17:14).

But in Berea, many believed, including honorable (influential, respectable, wealthy) Greek women, and more than a few men (Acts 17:12).

That is outstanding wise counsel. I would not want to be considered ignoble. :)

This is a great and refreshing post! Ask God for guidance, using right methods of approach and search the scriptures! OH and you used the word "study", amen. Noble is a wonderful word.

Then many today aren't noble, for the only time they search the scriptures is to prove the scriptures agree with them, not the other way around.
