How to forget the Lust from the Past?

I'm sorry if one hasn't lived in lust and sought to quench it then your advice is useless.
You being with your spouse does not get rid of lust. Lust is the perversion of attraction.
Lust is never satisfied. People who have explored all the human body of another offers can attest to this.
You can however get rid of it by transforming your mind and putting higher things in due order and place.

8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.

9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.



through Jesus can the unmarried overcome the lusts of the flesh?

does getting married help in some, in some way?

Short of dying, there is no way to “get rid of lust”. Suggesting sexual desire is something evil or something to get rid of has made a lot of people stumble- because they feel like they have been bad Christians and are weak if they have desires, which many times may be out of their control. For instance, would anyone condemn another for having a sexual dream? Dreaming is out of our control. Somehow, I don’t think God wants us to be hung up on this matter all the time, to be honest. I am not saying people should be consumed with it, 24-7. What I am saying is that it is impossible to ever “get rid of lust”.
 
For what it is worth, I have lived with lust, tried to quench it, promised God I would be pure minded, and failed miserably. I know what I am talking about and am not being theoretical. I honestly believe God is less angry at me for being a normal human being with desires, than when I am being mean to another person.
 
The key word in your title is past watch this cute video lol but seriously it is the past you must forgive what has happened and move forward with your future.. We all have mistakes we have made some haunt us but it is only because we let them haunt us.. It does not mean it is a bad thing it is our mind reminding us that hey this happened and it was not great maybe it is there to remind you to think twice or three times before you act again.

Hello. :)

I've battled with this for a decade and here's hope for you. It IS possible. There is a way to overcome this. I have tried SO MANY things. Read so many books, went to courses and stuff. This is something I thought I'd never admit here but it's a real issue, and not just among men.

I don't know what works for others, there's SCF (Setting Captives Free - accountability and stuff), there are books (Eyes of Honor, Purity, etc.), listened to hundreds of podcasts for a long time, surrounded myself with holy people (lol), there are SO MANY steps.

What set me free, completely, and this sounds so cliche, but when you actually understand what it really is (and yes there's more to it than just cliche and mere head knowledge), is the gospel - what Jesus has done for us at the Cross. It is called Good News for a reason. It sets people free.

My life changed when I understood the fact that even as I was, I was right then accepted, loved and completely forgiven, NOT AFTER I confessed, not AFTER I REGRETTED, no.. long, long before, 2017 years ago, Jesus KNEW and He still paid for all of it.

I could write a book here but no one wants that. I have saved the resources that changed my life and I know might work for others too (to those who are willing) CD sermons, I'm in a church that preaches the transforming power of Jesus' grace and we have many, MANY resources and testimonies about being set free from "lust" (and I assume, by lust you mean, porn addiction, fornication, adultery, etc.)

If you like to read, the book Eyes of Honor is a good start. It is an amazing book, I was already on my way to recovery when one of us here (Willie-T) suggested this book. I'd willingly buy one for you.

If you're serious about this, because I am, I can send you the resources - read: these in and of itself don't have the power the set you free, only Jesus can, these materials will plant the seeds of faith in your heart, like Jesus said "your faith has made you well" when in reality, it was Jesus' power through your faith. Anyway, let me know (here, or send me a VM or a PM) Capisce?

...So trauma-induced amnesia can't make someone forget about lust?

Color me confused... :/
 
I used to think that I did not have a problem with lust, but I was only fooling myself, my husband knew he had a problem with it, but he felt that he truly got delivered at a campmeeting. I on the other hand continued to have a problem with it until I had made many mistakes, then one day it was just plain gone. I no longer have any need or desire for sex period, and this happened before I lost my husband. His ability had diminished due to age, as he was 16 years older than me, and he continued to feel bad because he could no longer perform as he once had. I tried over and over to tell him it was ok, I never did really want to tell him the exact truth, that I no longer had any desire whatsoever for sex. I feel like it was God who took away my desire, because of my infidelities. So to say that you always have to live with that spirit of lust is not true, I am living proof that you can be free. Maybe not the way you wish, but I would not go back to it for anything. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

Lol, no I think biology is pretty strong. Besides, it is what drives procreation. It is not evil or wrong, only very normal. I don’t think being asexual is a desirable state.
 
I had to look up the definition to asexual, even though I felt it was describing me. It is very desirable to me, because it fits my lifestyle perfectly. My husband is no longer alive, and he had lost his drive before he died, so my lack of desire fits well, and esp. since I am now alone, and have no desire to get married again, so I see it as a blessing. A perfect example of God taking a bad thing and making something good out of it.

Now days I see a beautiful Woman, and i Look at Her as a beloved and precious child of God, a sister, a friend. and I know where that came from was filling my mind with Gods Word and believing it brought me to repentance because I believed what Jesus said of Lust, it solved my problem of sinful actions that come from renewed Knowledge about Lust inwardly. if we solve the inner problem, the actions follow without fail.

Im reminded of the Old indian proverb of the two Wolves within us, One is Light, and One is dark and they are opposed and struggle against one another. the old indian asks " which wolf will win the fight?" and then answers His question " which ever wolf you feed will be stronger and win the victory" we feed the spirit which is in conflict with the nature of flesh, and the spirit wins the victory.
