On the other hand, its a sign of a weak mind, to have a need to identify with "powerful organization", mostly with nationality, state, country.
We must have in mind that "our country is not best in everything", that other countries have something they are "best in" too and mostly, that we are not from this Earth and our citizenship is in heaven
Nobody thinks that.
But what is quite visible, I think, is an arrogance of many Americans who simply think that they are the norm of everything and everybody else must have it in the same way or else its automatically wrong.
And, maybe, just maybe, Americans happen to be especially loud about what they do not know...?
Third, maybe a different education system. While people in Europe, Asia etc must memorize from elementary schools facts about the world, its history, geography etc, I heard (I am not sure if it is true) that in the USA ppl are more learning how to think and how to express their opinions than memorizing facts. To be "individual". Which can be better for everyday living, but, of course, you lack some knowledge about the world what other people know, then. If you are not interested in it later.

The OP originally asked which one of the girls in his friendship group should he date.
Now, I think the “spirit” in which the OP asked this question escaped some users who responded to the thread (including myself, upon first reading).
The OP assumes the girls in his friendship group want to date him- this is arrogant and presumptuous, regardless from which country a person may hail.
NONE of the girls in his friendship group may even want to date him. They may all think he is undateable for whatever reason.
YOU said that I was being an arrogant American and not taking his Philippine culture into account.
This makes me very sad for Philippine women if part of their cultural traditions include dating men a woman does not like simply because he asked for a date.
Hopefully, this has clarified the situation.
I freely admit I am extremely ignorant about Philippine culture or Asian culture as a whole. My interests lie with the occident more than with the orient. I do not apologize for this, as I don’t find Asian culture all that interesting.

I suppose it is quiz time- let us quiz the ignorant American to see if she knows anything or is a poseur.
Some of my ancestry is Norwegian. I am interested in ship building, and how some of the buildings were made with ships turned upside down as roofs, Viking culture, the althing, and how Norwegian women ran things when their husbands were a- viking. I read Kristin Lavransdatter.
Now, contemporary Norwegian culture- I know very little. But I do know they have the most humane prison in the world, and I think all civilized countries should model prisons after this model as it is so humane.
I know that Norway and other Scandinavian countries are routinely chosen as the “happiest country” in the world, because of low crime rates, high literacy rates (I believe Finland is the most literate country in the world). I THINK Norway has an excellent economy, or they did recently.
On the other, other hand, it is always possible to find in people signs of something you can disparage if you look hard enough. So now nationalism is a sign of a weak mind? Hmm... I thought atheists claimed religion was a sign of a weak mind. You know, those silly christians have to find something they can lean on, something to take comfort in as they deal with the big, wide world. My but we have strayed far afield of the original thread topic! Being unable to focus on a topic is THE definite sign of being weak minded. I guess that means trofimus is more weak minded than all the rest because he got us off on a nationalism tangent.

A need of an individual to identify with some powerful organization is a common known sociological/psychological phenomenon.
I have it, you have it. No need to talk about superiority.
The most fearful, though, are the most nationalistic. A strong individual does not care too much if he lives in Austria, Germany or Italy. Its all temporal. But we are eternal.

Stereotypical Americans don't have time for any of that setup and pun stuff. They are way too busy with very important matters. Very, very important matters.
Fortunately I know very few stereotypical Americans. Just as I know very few stereotypical Mexicans, Scotsmen or French. Most of the people I know are just individual people.
