Hey Everyone,

Something's been on my mind.

Here's the scenario: there are two new girls at your church. They sit in the front, are dressed in miniskirts, loud makeup, wild hair, and stiletto heels. They wear cheap-chic clothes and carry the kind of designer bags you buy at a $20 purse party held at the house of some distant acquaintance. Broad tattoos decorate various parts of their bodies, and let's be honest... they are both very attractive and know how to show it off. Their looks obviously scream, "Look at me," and not necessarily in a good way.

But they listen attentively to the sermon and smile pleasantly at you when you pass by. As a Christian single, you may have an opportunity to talk to them that another married Christian may not have.

What are you thinking about them and what do you do?

(I promise to tell you who these girls are in a sequel to this thread after we hear some answers... stay tuned! :))

P.S. The poll is anonymous and multiple choice, so please feel free to be honest.

It's not my place to judge them but as a man, I would mainly just feel really attracted physically. It's my place to control that attraction, I would just be as nice and respectful as possible but I would try not to get too personal with them.....I've went down that road before, lol

Mine- would tell them to dress more appropriately when visiting the House of the Lord. (however, I probably wouldn't have the guts to saying anything lol) It's just being respectable. It can make things awkward and create tension in a congregation. Its not necessary to dress like that to church, unless that's all they had. How we dress is a choice, and it does represent our values and our self-image to a certain degree. Exercising some modesty isn't much to ask.

Yea but they may not have grown up with parents that taught them that. Church should be the place they should be able to come to in order to learn about God without being judged.....We aren't to have respect of persons when dealing with people that want to come to church

Yeah, I feel so 'old-world' with what I posted. As I was writing it, I was kind of surprised in myself. I realize church is suppose to be 'come as you are', but I think for order in the congregation there should be some kind of standards. Showing a lot of skin can be a distraction to others that are trying to focus on God and worship. Sorry, I think this coming off like I am being super judgmental and am beginning to see by the polls, that many people will disagree with me.

Seoulsearch are these new ladies to the congregation or long-time members? I am responding as them being long time members.

I would take them out to lunch and become their friend. I would introduce them to friends and try and help enfold them. You have to build relationship with a person before you can even attempt to understand their motives. Judging them upon first impressions would be very wrong and hurtful.
I honestly wouldn't have a problem reaching out to these people. People on the "outside" don't frighten me.

Yea, sure it could be distracting. Thing is though, what if those girls never had any Christian influence and they walk into a church trying to learn about the Lord and end up getting looked at funny and slut shamed? Are they gonna ever want to come back?

I was responding as if they were long time members and not new to christianity and the church

As a 17 year old my heart was broken at overhearing two ladies I had looked up to shun and gossip about a young Vietnamese girl (who barely spoke English and had no way of knowing "the rules") who came looking for God in a very short skirt and halter top. What would I do? I would befriend her, share Christ with her, be an example to her and let the Holy Spirit do the Holy Spirit's job in leading her into modesty, as He does the rest of us concerning OUR shortcomings.

Ah, well from that perspective....the pastor should have handled it. It's his job to manage that kind of thing. I once asked a pastor what the hardest part about being a preacher was, and he told me it was people that were causing problems in the church and wasn't really aware of it...and having to talk to them about the issue. He said he didn't like it but it's just something your responsible for in that position

This what happens when I don't read the question clearly....EEK! :s

Welp, I've made myself out to look like a judgmental Christian; my job here is done. *dusts off hands and walks away*

lol, don't sweat it...nobody's perfect. The OP didn't tell us how long they had been going to church or any of that stuff...........as much as I try not to, I still catch myself judging people sometimes too.

Don't worry, Arwen--we ALL make the same mistakes *hugs* and we know your heart.

You're sweet, kind, intelligent, and compassionate. No worries, love!

I would ignore them. Maybe those happen to be the nicest clothes they have. Maybe they were running late from somewhere and didn't have time to change. Chances are that they aren't so dumb and blind as to not notice how out of place they look.

It might me the first time they have been in church, God wants them there do you think he cares how tthey dress? We welcome anyone, drunk, smelly bum, whatever, its not a fashion show, its for them to hear the word of a God, do you think Jesus would turn them away?
