You guys need to remember that Jesus left(ascended) the same way he will return. He returns with 10000’s of his saints so who do you think captivity was?

Here’s the Old Testament prophecy of Jesus taking captivity captive.

Psa 14:7 (KJV) Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

The desire for salvation to come out of Zion in that verse is prophetic of Jesus coming the first time bringing salvation.

The Lord bringing back the captivity of his people is Jesus taking the captivity (saved Jews in Abrahams bosom) to heaven with him.

Repost.....

Who were the captives that Jesus took with him when he ascended?
King James Bible Psalm 68:18
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

No notion of snatching, resurrecting, or taking anybody else to heaven here whatsoever. Simply a proclamation of total victory, and giving men the booty of His conquests as a free gift.

(In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?b 10He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)

Nor does the commentary mention this. It simply says coming to earth and returning to Heaven.

No going to hell, no resurrecting OT Saints...none of that here.

I do not see any connection whatsoever to dead OT Saints, Abrahams bosom or resurrection. All I see is the Second Coming in Glory for the children of Israel.

The captives aren’t mentioned in the Old Testament, it’s mentioned in the New Testament only.

My question to you is, in Ephesians 4:8 who were the captives that Jesus ascended with?

Ephesians 4:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 This is why it[a] says:

“When he ascended on high,
he took many captives

and gave gifts to his people.”[b]

You are suffering from some extremely serious problems with hermeneutics and eschatology. Extremely serious. Jesus did NOT ascend with a visible contingent of 10,000 of His Saints in this instance that you refer to.

Acts 1

9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I know you can’t see it and that’s really sad that you can’t see it. Please go to God in prayer about it. Ask and ye shall receive.

The way Jesus left is the way he will return. He will return with ten thousands of his saints. He left in like manner as he returned.

You might want to pray about reading some commentaries written by competent scholars. Nothing I have read tonight indicated what you assert.

Youre totally ignoring the fact that Paul specifically said in Ephesians 4:8 that Jesus ascended and took many captives with him. Have you not read the verse?

Try it again from Psalm 68:18 from the NIV. The NIV puts it in modern English. It says “When you ascended on high, you took many captives”

Many captives is the modern words for the captivity.

My question for you remains, who were those captives that Jesus took with him?

Psalm 68:18 New International Version (NIV)
18 When you ascended on high,
you took many captives;
you received gifts from people,
even from[a] the rebellious—
that you,[b] Lord God, might dwell there.

Lol. Worst translation, try the interlinear. It is quite clear.

The judgement has already been decided.

The judgemt on the last day is the execution of those who have no faith to believe. the second death The believers will not come into the final, the second death. No condemnation for those in Christ.

He that "believeth" on him is not condemned: but he that "believeth not" is condemned already, because he hath "not believed" in the name of the only begotten Son of God.John3:18
And yet your interpretation has the saints in with the heathen.

You are basically painting yourself into the proverbial corner.

Your interpretation hinges on shaky ground.
You have belivers judged at the gwtj and that event DURING the gt.

Dude the Greek says EXACTLY the same thing the KJV and the NIV said. You have absolutely no clue what "He led captivity captive" means and that's why I posted the verse from the NIV.... and you STILL don't understand it.

Captivity captive means -
CSB
For it says: When he ascended on high, he took the captives captive; he gave gifts to people.

ESV
Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”

NASB
Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.”

NIV
This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”

KJV
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

The captivity IS THE JEWS! Taking them captive MEANS he took them with him. Geez, how much simpler can this be!
