I put someone on ignore once over a decade ago but found it more annoying to not know what they were saying.

Since then I've kinda embraced the differences we have, and like @faithlife said, it can be rewarding to challenge viewpoints that I do not believe are biblical.

When I was younger I generally avoided conflict but it no longer bothers me if I feel the cause is worthy. One of the benefits of getting old I guess 🤷‍♀️

Am I growing a tougher skin or a woolier coat?
As long as ignoring is not shunning, I think it's ok to let things pass or to pass over something that might trigger you.
You have to guard your heart after all.

I sometimes feel sad that I'm the one thats being ignored, but I can't do anything about that, or change who I am to please some other's specific ideal of what they want me to be just by their harsh words online.

The truth is, Jesus had something that a lot of people wanted but couldn't have, so those who were envious criticised him all the time. He ignored them, or actually, resisted them. He turned the other cheek, and didn't slap them back.

When challenged, Christians are to earnestly contended for the faith they had received in the gospel. You keep on posting, because you KNOW what you believe is true, others may not believe you, but you know. It's nothing personal, but you need to defend the faith.

Otherwise, I do enjoy playing the games on here as laughter is the best medicine.

So... lanoilin
If i place a member on ignore , i am "ignorant" for doing so?
Please do expound on Your reasoning process.
Thx.

are you the ignorer or the ignoree
Because the person you ignore can still see what you write about them if you tell them you are actively ignoring them
It kind of doesn't make sense, because I thought the purpose of the ignore button was NOT to tell them you are ignoring them it just allows you to get on with posting without being annoyed and constantly being drawn into maybe a fruitless argument. Not a civil discussion...an argument! Sometimes our responses can be involuntary reactions that have no rhyme or reason. And some people demand answers. And when you answer to what they believe is wrong or incorrect, they will go after you and say well that person was ignorant. Anything they post is ignorant so I'm gonna ignore them.

Like would it annoy you if I wrote you can't even spell my name correctly you I'm ignoring you because you are ignorant. My name is spelled Lanolin not lanoilin and so I won't answer to laniolin or lanolonley lanolina lanoil 🤷‍♀️ I am now very offended and so I offend you back by loudly declaring"I'm going to ignore you!" which kinda defeats the purpose of ignoring someone.

I brought popcorn in case we got off topic. 😀
🍿The blissful solace of popcorn. If you don't like what you see, you can just concentrate on eating the popcorn while you watch the car crash.
I mean you don't have to get involved right? Rubbernecking is some people's favourite pastime.
Or you could just do something else.

It's like..there's a war on. Let's turn on the TV so we can watch it.
But maybe I don't want to watch the war and do something constructive and useful and think on things lovely instead.

Nobody here has ever made me mad enough to put them on ignore.

I have made some people mad enough to put me on ignore. Then I can say anything I want about them! Yipee!
Huh you don't often have good things to say about them, thats why they ignore you. Why would they wanna fight you if all you are doing is making people mad for fun?

Like why? It's not so much making people mad, but you being mean. If you do that all the time, they not just gonna ignore you, they'll report you. It's not a good thing to take pleasure in offending people and talking behind their back. It's just mean.

I spelled your name incorrectly on purpose...

I was also tempted to select the last option as a joke - but, chose the 5th one instead - other than a rare occasional 'experiment'/'test' of the system or a temporary practical measure, I never put anyone on ignore...

Yes, Lanolin can be annoying at times; however, since I am able to "look past the surface" of her posts - I can see things about her that are really quite nice - that I actually like.

How many people do you ignore on CC?

Love the poll!!

For my own self, I've found that Ignore can have different functions. I can only remember putting 3 people on Ignore.

I've been on CC for 17 years, and early on, there was a man who said he was married but having problems. He also stated in one of the threads that he was interested in me. I don't know if he was trying to test the waters -- way back then PM (private messaging) was free -- but thankfully he didn't try to PM me and announced it publicly instead.

I put him on Ignore.

I thought about it a while, then changed my mind. This was the beginning of how I learned to deal with trolls and antagonists over the years -- I write threads about what they say. So I took this guy off Ignore and wrote a thread asking what other singles do when married people try to hit on them.

The thread didn't name him or call him out specifically. Most people were oblivious to what was going on and answered it like any other thread, but this guy was hopping mad and obviously got the point. He soon left the site -- though anyone can come back under another name.

The second person I put on Ignore was someone who had a mad obsessive crush on someone here and would get upset and stir up trouble any time they thought someone else was trying to talk to their crush. I put them on Ignoe because they would try to ask me if I had seen their object of obsession talking to anyone else.

I can't remember who the other person was or why, but I do remember putting a third person on Ignore.

All of these things happened many years ago.

Back then, we had a very regular crowd in Singles and one guy said he had over 60+ on Ignore.

The thing is, it's very amusing to watch people try to keep up with conversations when they put the big talkers on Ignore. It's like wearing hearing aids in a crowd and still trying to participate in every facet of the conversation.

I've seen other people attempt to do this when they author threads. They can't see exactly what's going on, but they interject with their own strong opinions anyway. There was one thread where a long-standing member and I were exchanging ideas in a thread and the author came in and yelled at him because he had me on Ignore and couldn't really see what we were talking about. He mistakenly thought my friend was talking about something completely unrelated.

So basically... You might not want to write threads if you have a lot of people on Ignore, because it will most likely make you sound like a moron.

Me? I'm enough of a moron even WITHOUT having people on Ignore, so I don't use it because I've found it's easier to skim and at least figure out what's going on if I want to be part of the conversation, but that's just me.

And I don't mind if anyone puts me on Ignore.

In fact, with many users in the past, I've asked them too, because, for the reasons I've already stated, I don't put them on Ignore.

And for some of the really, really... interesting... members we've had here over the years...

Having them LOUDLY declare they're putting you on Ignore -- only to then answer you in the next post you write  (which I've had happen several times) -- is really a badge of honor. 🏅

You are funny!

I never thought that this thread would be about this topic when I saw the title. I had a run-in with some folks a few days ago, and I finally put 3 or 4 of them on ignore. My experiences here have been noticeably more peaceful since then. Some people just like to start trouble.

Lol! Sorry I messed up the analogy...

I was trying to say that putting a lot of people on Ignore while still actively trying to participate in every conversation is like taking your hearing aids out and thinking you can keep up with all the conversations in a room full of people you can't hear.

I do realize Ignore is a blessing to some and I fully encourage it for them.

However, I obviously have enough issues trying to participate while saying something somewhat comprehendable.

I can't imagine how much worse it would be if I put half the people on Ignore! 😂

As for the trolls, one thing I can say is those are the ones who have given me some of the very best thread ideas that garnered the most audience participation in the whole time I've been here! 😁

A big thank you to all the haters. ❤️
