Hi Luisa lovely to meet you, welcome to CC! I think the Biblical sense of the word marriage is when two are equally yoked. Many of us married without this awareness and thus wound up in untrue unions. Yes we should give it our best effort and pray pray pray, but sometimes it's just not gonna work . So if it's a sin, God will surely forgive us when we ask, just like any other sin (except against the HS). Maybe pose this question in another Forum, the Family Forum perhaps, and get many more thoughts on it. God bless you and yours🙏🌼🙌

Hi Luisa. May the grace and peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. The Bible gives two grounds for divorce: (1) sexual immorality (Matthew 5:32, Matthew 19:9) and (2) abandonment by an unbeliever (1 Corinthians 7:15).

(NASB20 Malachi 2:16) “For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of armies. “So be careful about your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.”

(NASB20 Matthew 5:32) "but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery."

(NASB20 1 Corinthians 7:15) "Yet if the unbelieving one is leaving, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us in peace."

Hi, I’m Luisa. While I wouldn't call myself a perfect Christian, I’m truly doing my best to live out my faith. There is a question that has been weighing heavily on my heart for a while now: Is getting a divorce considered a sin, and will I be held accountable for it?
What does God say about it?

Malachi 2:16For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away:

Putting away = marital divorce

Luke 16:18 - Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
1 Corinthians 7:39 - The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

I am not going to burden you with unnecessary scripture.
Only adultery violates the marital covenant, But forgiveness is available through repentance.

Besides that I would consider if it needs to be, so let it be.

No. Getting a divorce is not a sin. God understands the human condition quite well and is full of mercy and compassion. Glad to have you onboard with us. Welcome to CC.

Depends.

Dearest Luisa, If I could, I would like you to see what the Lord says on the subject.

Mat. 19:3-8
3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’
5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”
8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

After this, Paul says:

1 Cor. 7:10-16
10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband.
11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife.
12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her.
13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.
16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?

Therefore, unless the husband committed adultery with another woman, you should not divorce. However, if you do, you must remain single else be reconciled to your husband. However, if you divorce and marry another, that is sin.

This is a difficult thing and even more difficult to talk about. Therefore, please consider entering into a closet where you can be alone with the Lord, humbly come before His throne of Grace and pour out your heart to Him. He WILL answer you. The answer may not be God speaking directly to your spirit, but could be and action or kind words from a family member or friend that will give you direction.

Lord God Almighty, I come humbly before Your throne of Grace and lift up Luisa for she is in torment of spirit concerning her husband. I do not know the details of her desire to divorce her husband, but You do My God and My Redeemer. Therefore, Oh Lord My God, look and see if there be evil there and address it that she may have peace. Lord, there is nothing impossible for You and we know you hate divorce. So, Lord God, bring peace and love to that marriage and bring them together in the knowledge of You. For You are God and there is no other. And I stand with Luisa seeking Your Word on this. In Jesus Mighty Name. AMEN
