Have you ever heard of the Passover Lamb?

ie, The representation of Christ.

The reason the day of atonement had to continue year after year, is because the people could not keep the law the way God demanded. If they could. Sacrifice could have stopped. or at least. could be done on an individual bases as needed.

But no, it was done for all people. because "all have (and continued year after year) to sin".

as far as the op. Yes, they are still valid. The are jesus showing us HOW the law (of moses) and the prophets were kept.

Because the law (as written by moses) could not be kept, by following them,

true, but it is out of this, that the "love" of God flows through us and out to others, and we obey those two commands. So I would say both are right,, They both are a basis to Christian living, for you can not become christlike apart from either. Take one away, and our lives fall apart

Christians don't live by commandments in the Law, we aren't under the Law. We live by faith in Jesus Christ, who is alive and living in us.

So we do not have to love the lord our God with all our hearts. and every person we come in contact with? That should not be our focus?

Is jesus not telling us HOW we shiuld live our lives, HOW we fulfill the law and prophets?

I would say He is pointing us to Himself, as does all of the Law.

I would say He is pointing us to Himself, as does all of the Law.

I would agree, and would also say he is pointing us to others (serving others)

Which is what Christ did while he walked the earth. He loved his father first. And in that love, he put others needs above his own needs.

God created us to serve us He created us in Gods image, to serve others.

Sin is when we put self over the needs of others..Including God.

That's only half the picture my friend. If you are not pointed to serve others. based on the love he gave you. You are missing half the meaning of what Christ showed us on earth. To love others.. That is acting like our creator.

The law not only points us to him, His nature, But it points us to how we were created in his nature.

That's why the law should condemn us, because it shows how much we have failed, and continue to fail to live up to his nature.

And why Jesus gave us those two commands (
Basically summed up all the law and prophets) if Wewant to live according to the law.
He did not say them to put us under law.

He says love of God comes first, Then comes anyone we come in contactwith (our neighbor) is second.

We (self) are not even on the list. We are to depend onGod to serve us, through something he did, or others serving us.

This was a hard lesson I had to learn about ten years ago. I wouldloving ly serve others. but was afraid to be served (better to give thanreceive) until a dear sister confronted me, and told me I was stopping God fromusing others to serve me, as I also serve others.

Talk about conviction!!

Which all points right back to Jesus and to us continuing to live by faith in Him

19Why then serves the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness should have been by the law.
22
But the scripture has concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up to the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24Why the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Galatians 3

righteousness has NEVER been by law

as long as we do not remove serving others out. Couch potato Christianity is not what God intended, He intended for us to go into the world. Where the gates of hell will never prevail.

Yes, of course.

God is merciful. The law is not.

That is so true. The Law is unrelenting in its demands for total, perfect compliance. The biggest problem facing Christianity is not cheap grace, but cheap law....the idea that God accepts anything less than the perfect righteousness of Jesus.

Do you really think that actually living by faith in Christ will result in "couch potato Christianity"?? Really?

Neither is mercy.

Thx for the rep Grace! :)

it's my understanding that many do not believe that Paul's letters are actually teaching from the Holy Spirit

seems like wading through the word is a mine field LOL!

Yes, exactly.

People want to think they can read Gods Law and say "Yeah, I do that". I don't kill. I don't lie. I'm doing it. I even go the extra hebrew roots mile and rest on saturdays.

But if you read Matthew 5 it should be readily apparent that the law is more difficult than your original understanding of it.

The fact that it is designed, not to be worked at by your understanding, but to bring you to Christ. Christ is the goal. Abide in Him and His Mercy and Grace.

I suppose you can't just tell people this. Or it will just be an intellectual understanding. Go and be perfect Like your Father in Heaven is Perfect. Perfect in thought. Perfect in deed. Perfect in every aspect of your life.

Report back and tell us how you are doing. Tell us how its done. Be merciful.

Not sure I understood you exact direction, but to build on that if I did; This topic is covered here, Yahshua the REAL PASSOVER LAMB:

Hebrews 10

For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5Consequently, when Christa came into the world, he said,

“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;
6in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.
7Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”

8When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), 9then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

15And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,
”

17then he adds,

“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

18Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Clearly if we look at the context itsabout the law of sacrifices, and how Messiah's Sacrifie is the true Sacrifice...

(also the day of Atonement IMO is about Yahshua returning and destroying all the evil upon earth at that time because there need only be 1 Sacrifice not 2):

This would be trumpets:

Mattithyah 24:29-31, "Immediately, but after the tribulation of those days will the sun be darkened, and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven; and then will all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His malakim with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of earth to the other."

This would be Atonement:

Daniyl 2:34-35, "You watched while a stone, which was cut out without hands, struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them into pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken to pieces at the same time, and became like the chaffon the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no trace of them could be found; and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth."

Revelation 19:11-16, “And I saw the heaven opened, and there was a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Trustworthy and True, and in righteousnes He judges and fights. And His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns, having a Name that had been written, which no one had perceived except Himself – and having been dressed in a robe dipped in blood – and His Name is called: The Word of יהוה. And the armies in the heaven, dressed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations. And He shall shepherd them with a rod of iron. And He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of the Almighty Strength. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written: SOVEREIGN OF SOVEREIGNS AND MASTER OF MASTERS.”

guess some folks are just gonna see God as a vengeful head cracking nihilist

I think that speaks more to the wrongful conclusion that there is somehow an involvement of the human capacity to stop sinning and become next in line to being able to forgive the sins of others

since that has already been demonstrated, I rest my case...:p'

you (generic you) cannot possibly achieve this type of mind twisting conclusion without cherry picking verses and ignoring much of the NT
