It's truly a shame that this type of music fell out of favor.

I listened to a social commentary channel saying that in those days, guys didn't have to express their feelings to their girlfriends/wives because they could just play a Boyz II Men song and it said it all.

I did like some of their songs, but their image was tarnished a bit in my home turf when they came to play near my college.

I didn't go, but it came out on the news the next day that they had been an hour late -- because they were shopping downtown.

And they didn't compensate the paying attendees in any way, not even staying an hour later to make up for the fans' loss.

I didn't have any interest in trying to see them after that.

Aw that's a shame
Touring can be rough for artists on the road. IDK logistics of it, but if they don't have people to do their shopping for them etc and they get stuck in traffic it can really ruin their reputation for being unreliable.

I imagine the most famous ones have entourages and security - Whitney Houston had her own Bodyguard! (Really, not just in the movie). She was let down by her drug use sadly. It would have been amazing to hear her live at her peak.

What about...Wilson Phillips?
They were great at harmony, one of them was the daughter of Brian Wilson (of Beach Boys) and one was the daughter of one of the Mamas in Mamas and the Papas.

Well I am going to see Jesus Christ Superstar in November, it isn't nearly as expensive as Boyz II Men. But they do have supporting acts - Salt n' Pepa and Bell Biv Devoe. They are blast from the past!

I wonder if I can win a ticket...? Then I'd be like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory.

Speaking of which, does anyone remember...C&C Music Factory? Wonder where they are now.

Yeah, the thing that turned people off was that the area they were shopping in was the downtown plaza -- a place where you do casual shopping for things like clothes, shoes, knick knacks, etc. They weren't out shopping for groceries or essentials, they were strolling at their own leisure and unfortunately, the fans lost out.

But yes, who knows what really happened and I can imagine touring must be a nightmare.

I definitely agree that they made some of the most amazing, influential music of their time.

I always thought Whitney Houston was one of the most beautiful women the world would ever see, and had the voice to match.

I was so shocked by her death, similar to when I found out Princess Diana had died.

And I think that the truly astonishing thing about Whitney's voice is that with just one note, you could tell that God must have hand-sculpted every tone for praise and worship.

It's truly saddening to see how her life went.

I knew someone once here on CC who also had an amazing voice (she sang in the live chat often,) and told us a record company had offered her a contract when she was 19 -- but she felt God led her to turn it down.

That had to take some real strength to do, as I have no doubt she would have been successful.

But then I think of Whitney, and I'm sure that by following God, this person probably dodged a very large bullet.

yea though I think my most memorable music years would have been from 1987 -- 1999
After that nobody could party like it was 1999 unless they went back in time. Everyone was too scared of Y2K, which didn't end up happening.

Music industry was (and still is) a money making machine...for the publishers. Taylor Swift manage to wrest it back though for the artists.

Paula Abdul IMHO was the best dancer ---Sorry MJ. She choreographed Janet Jackson. Paula originally was a cheerleader for the LA Lakers.

How about Tiffany and Debbie Gibson?

Oh my goodness, there was one year when I was in school and you couldn't get away from them.

I saw some made-for-cable movie (before streaming,) one of those cheesy "Sharknado" type of "movies" where there's some ridiculous genetically altered giant killer animals running amok.

At one point, Tiffany and Debbie cat fight each other in the mud, and they're using lines from their old songs as dialogue.

It was hilarious!

I've just done a duet of Tiffany's I think we're Alone Now on Smule. Although when I heard the OG 60's version, (Tommy and the Shondells) I liked that one a lot better. They obviously went crazy with the synthesisers and drum machine on Tiffany's version.

Tiffany was like the Lindsay Lohan of the 80s. Red Hair, husky voice, fresh face. Crazy movies.

Remember them AND the movie. Well, most of it. Don't really recall the monsters but do recall the cat fight. Hysterical! 🤣

Have a collection of buttons and some are from the 80s. Have one of Tiffany and I have no idea why. LOL

Though I do think I would have LOVED those when I was in school. Always loved little things. My parents still make fun of me for it.
