I figured this would be the best place for this thread, hope Im right.
But, anywho. Ive been thinking about Palestine lately, I have learned a /little/ about it myself, but figured it would be cool to hear from people who know more about it than I do, who wouldnt try to convince me that it was a real thing at one time to push their agenda of defending the destruction of Israel :/
But, from what I have learned, it was never actually a /real/ place, but the name comes from the Roman Empire. When Rome conquered Judea, the renamed the land Palestine, which actually just means "land of the Philistines", which was a reference to the neighboring nation of Israel, who was not a friend to the Israeli people. I guess it was like a way to stick it to the people of Israel? And then when Britain took power over Israel, they, for some reason, decided to rename it what the Roman Empire had named it once more.
And stories of the Jewish people discriminating the Palestinian people are exaggerated, Ive heard. Like, when in the early 1900s, Israel was desolate, so the Jewish people began working hard to make the land good again. And they ended up buying the land from many muslim people for a high priced, and these muslim people actually willingly sold their land, and moved entirely of their own will. But, this has been turned into some story of how the Jews "forced" the palestian people from "their" land?
I also have heard that many Islamic nations call themselves the real palestine, and Ive heard there are even islamic spokesmen who are coming out and admitting that it was never an actual real place, but merely is a word for the collective islamic people and their ideals as a whole.
I dont know much about it, but am interested on learning more.
(I feel like my opener is weak, but its 3am, and I have to get up for work, so am pretty tired
)
