New Living Translation Matthew 24

1 As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings. 2 But he responded, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!

Verse 1-2 :Jesus Christ is telling his disciples, who are pointing out the various Temple buildings in Jerusalem, that the temples will be destroyed.

3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world/Age?[a]”

Verse 3 : Jesus Christ, and his Disciples, left from the buildings they were around and followed Jesus Christ on the Mount of Olives, which He liked to go to, and the Disciples, came to ask about when would they see the sign for the end of the (Age)/World (The Last time of the standing Jewish Temple / Old Covneant/ geneologies the Age was going to end), they were living in at that time because Jesus Christ said that the buildings would be destroyed so they came and asked Jesus Christ when will these things happen what will we see happening?

4 Jesus told them (His Disciples), “Don’t let anyone mislead you, 5 for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. 7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. 8 But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.

Verse 4-8
: Jesus Christ told his disciples, to not let anyone miss lead them, because there would be many that come claiming, that they are they Messiah, and they will deceive many (even the elected could be possibly Verse 24), the Disciples would see these people around, they would also hear of wars, and threats of wars going on, but not to worry, because these things must take place but the end (The end of the Age) won't follow immediately, nation would go against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There would be famines, and earthquakes in many parts of the world-(The land of the inhabitants at that time/Region at that time, not the whole entire world). This would just be the start of everything, being of many sufferings they would endure and go through until the end of the age did come.

9 “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. 10 And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. 11 And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. 12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations[c] will hear it; and then the end will come.

Verse 9-14
:
Jesus Christ told his disciples, that they would be arrested, persecuted, and killed, that they would not be liked because they professed the Lord Jesus Christ name, even at one point where told to no longer speak His name (Acts 4:18) out in public, but they did anyway, which was worthy of death. There would be many people in those days betraying and hating each other, there would be many false prophets that will deceive many people, sin (unbelief/faithlessness) will be everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold (because of unbelief/faithlessness). The one who endures to the end will be saved, the one who substains his faith until the end of his life while all these things would be going on will be saved, and the Good news about the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations, will hear it; and then the end will come. The Disciples got the job done! The Good news of the Kingdom was preached through out the whole world (the land of the inhabitants of that time would only mean for the land then, so that all the nations at that time got to hear about it before the end would come which would be the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who would end the Age of Material religion, Temples, Sacrifices,)

15 “The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[d] standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!)

Verse 15: Talking about something to His disciples about what the Daniel the prophet spoke about, there would be a day when they would see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the holy place.

16 “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 17 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. 18 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. 19 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. 20 And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

Verse 16-19
: When this day comes, those who are in Judea must flee to the hills.

21 For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. 22 In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.

Verse 21-22
: There will be greater anguish than any time since the world began, when all of these things progress until the end of the age, and it will never be so great again. (Thank God) Because if God didn't short this time of calamity not a single person will (would have) survive (survived). So this time, was the greatest time in history, that was filled with a time of calamity, that would never be so great again.

23 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.

Verse 23-25
: If anyone tells you that here is the Messiah, there He is, do not believe them, because there will be many people who will deceive other people and lead them away from the truth of that is in Jesus Christ, and deny the faith, and that it was possible to even these people who were deceiving could deceive those who where elect, back then.

26 “So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! 27 For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man[e] comes. 28 Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.[f]

Verse 26-28: So still if anyone tells you look the Messiah is out in the desert, do not bother about looking, for Him, don't believe it!, For as a the lighting flashes, in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man Comes, just as gathering of vultures shows there is carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.

The coming of the end (Age) is that of a quick lighting flash, in the east, and shines in the west when the Son of Man Comes.

28, I am unsure what this means, but it seems to be talking about vultures, that gather together, show a dead body near by, which is an indication of the end is near?

Vs 3

If you interpret it as 2 questions it sets up the entire chapter to hopefully combine the rapture with the coming of Jesus in rev 19.

VS 3 ASKS 3 QUESTIONS.
REV 19 IS NOT THE RAPTURE

Jesus is talking about his sudden appearance it will not be a look for Waldo thing but a sudden appearance.

Using the examples of the vultures he is giving the example that the earthquakes and natural disasters will multiple to a rapid constant such as when a dead carcass is found by the vultures there is one then two then four then ten and so on. Increasing in numbers.

Well Let us take it for what is worth line by line my friend. I believe this is talking about the Return of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Destruction of the Temple, and about the End of the times that they would see come forth, after Jesus Christ died and rose again, because in this Chapter He is also talking about His very own return with His disciples, at least the few verses we go through at the moment.

New King James Version Matthew 24
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Verse 29-30: Jesus Christ is still talking to his Disciples who right there still with Him" After the tribulation of those days just talked about in the verse before, about being arrested, persecuted, and killed, wars, rumors of wars, nation against nation The sun would be darkened, the moon would not give its light, the stars would fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear, in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth (Inhabitants of that land Jewish Tribes) will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory,

(Returning to declare victory gather his elect, to destroy the sacrifices, Temples, Preist hood, geneology, to end the Age of Material Religion that we may live by the spirit of God, the holy spirit in and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ)

31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Verse 31: The Son of Man, will send His Angels/messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, to gather together His elect from the 4 winds, from one end of the sky to the other, so from the land as far it goes from one end to the other.

32 Jesus Christ said to His disciples “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it[d] is near—at the doors!

Verse 32-33
:Jesus Christ tells His Disciples, to learn about the parable from the fig tree, when its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. (So because you can tell by a branch starts to become tender and it puts forth leaves you know that summer has become near, because leaves are starting to grow and winter has passed??). So will be the same thing when you my Disciples will see all of these things, and in this way when you see these things happening you will know that the time is near, right at the door, that I will be coming back.

34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.

Verse 34: Jesus Christ, said to His disciples, this (that) generation (all the generation of the land at the time) will not pass away (The Last time of the standing Jewish Temple / Old Covneant/ geneologies the Age was going to end) until all of these things take place.

35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Verse 35: Does Heaven and earth that will pass away, mean when we die, heaven and earth will pass away, but Jesus Christ's word will by no means ever pass away from underneath this sky, and on this earth?

Matthew,

If you wish to understand Matthew 24 properly, stick with the King James Bible (consult other versions after that). Also go to Mark 13 and Luke 21 and then harmonize all three in the light of what is revealed in Revelation.

Also the NLT is just a paraphrase, and the NKJV has made some changes which are not beneficial.

While you were simply summarizing the events in the Matthew 24 (The Olivet Discourse) the sequence is:

1. the Destruction of the Temple

2. the End of the times

3. Return of the Lord Jesus Christ

Some people mistakenly believe that Christ returned in the first century. That is simply absurd.

What is absurd is you claiming the kingdom comes with observation in a total contradiction of Jesus' statement:

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

Context is everything. That was true then, and continues to be true until the second coming of Christ. After that the Kingdom of God does indeed come with observation. It will be visible, literal, physical, tangible, universal, and recognized by all who will be on earth at that time. Please note (Acts 1:6,7):

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Typical, conflation and trying to negate what Christ said about the kingdom - somehow the nature of it goes from unobservable to observable.

2 Cor 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

I agree Matthew there is the answer to three question and Luke has the answer to two questions.

Matthew 24:3 “As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Luke 21:7 “And they asked him, “Teacher, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?”

If you really want a good brake down of the Olivet Discourse get the book Synopsis Of The Four Gospels. It was put together by on of the translators of the Greek New Testament Kurt Aland. He takes all of the Gospels and line them up, with the Olivet Discourse he takes Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21 and 17. Here's a link to check it out, I wish I could upload a screenshot.

You are absolutely right. I actually recall upon why it is most necessary to do so brother Tanakh.

You can see what Jesus Christ was doing, and saying before they even went to the Mount of Olives.

Then what happens after. :) God bless all you my friend Christ Jesus.

As is usually the case with ANYTHING we read in the Bible. (I love the people who ask: "What does this one single, isolated verse mean?")

He who remains without form (the kingdom does not come by observation) will come on the last day like a thief in the night.

The end will not take the believer by surprise. The last day, is the day that our goal he has given us will be met .A new incorruptible body through Christ our Ark.

Big difference between a sign of observation or sign of the times and a sign and wonder (the faith factor ). We cannot create our own wonders.

He will come on the last day the standpoint revelation was written n from called the Lord' day... looking backwards. . We are in the lasts days indicated by the renting of the veil .It signaled the wall had fallen . no outward temple worship .The time of reformation is here .Not 70 years later when the wall had literal fallen all but small section is left that is being treated as a idol today..

2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

King James Version Matthew 24

Matthew 24:36 Jesus Christ said to His Disciples But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Verse 36: That day, was the day of judgment, and return of the Lord Jesus Christ, and know man would know exactly what hour, or day it would happen, they would only see a progression from the times of persecutions, temples being demolished, the end of the (Age) world they knew, would just progress worse and worse, until Jesus Christ would return, and set everything right, as it would be made by Him like He said He would. - If I am wrong with this please help me understand.

From reading the Word of God.

But I understand this verse to be talking about a day and hour that they would not know about, because no man would know exactly. There were many people around at that time that would preach that the Lord came back before He ever really did. And preach that you couldn't marry or eat certain foods. Jesus Christ was going return, and demolish the temples, preist hoods, sacrifices, law, and cast judgement against the nations then back at that time.

Now from a spiritual aspect that I view this personally.

I believe that the day and hour of our own death, will not be known, but only by the Father.

Verse 16-19: When this day comes, those who are in Judea must flee to the hills.
I think this is saying the place where we go to worship the thing we refer to as "our religion" will turn on us there for at that time we will need to abandon it
