Appearance has become, or really, has always been, very important. The girl we all want to be seems to be that 5’7”, long blonde, blue eyed babe. Perfect skin and makeup, and just to add insult to injury, a limitless beauty budget.
How do we teach our daughters that this is not the way it is? My own daughter is concerned about the fact that blondes seems to have more fun. She looks like her mother, meaning she is short, ginger, has freckles and is pale. Of course, that is average, but she and the other average girls have noticed what girls are popular.
To me, an adult, it’s obvious that many of the popular, beautiful girls are using way too much makeup, they are spending too much time shopping, many of them are coming from broken homes, and they’re already messing around with boys way older than them.
Any thoughts?
