"ICE"

I remember used to watch a tv show called The Nanny. The Nanny had a thick New York .accent, she was really nasal and her charges were British, well the Dad and his butler were. Anyway I would often put this on captions so I could learn new words, mostly in yiddish.

I may visit Australia next year, but might have to keep my mouth shut lest everyone pegs me as a kiwi.

I remember the cast of the tv show xena, warrior princess, which was filmed here, had to learn how to speak with american accents because american audiences watching the show wouldnt be able to understand nz accents. It usually consists of people remembering to emphasies their 'rs' but not to the extreme that everyone sounds like a pirate.

This is amazing ,all the years I have lived wanting to be able to speak different language dialect not realizing I was born with the gift.
I can understand "Boston" and I can understand African American and my favorite Deep South . Although I will admit understanding these dialects and speaking them are a different matter. Nevertheless I would not change any of them. They are all wonderful to me.

What do you mean expensive? We all po folk (poor people) down here. We be friendly though.

And New Orleans is pronounced that way everywhere except in New Orleans. Natives of the city call it Naalin or Nawlins.

Yes, I am one of those horribly uncultured people who calls my aunt, "Ant --------."

But where I was raised, that's just how people pronounce it.

We also mispronounce "Coke" and "soda."

We call it "pop". :) (Because it's a shortened version of "soda pop", which was an old-fashioned term for such drinks.)

Growing up in Detroit we called it pop too.
