This political cartoon nails the absurdity of California’s extended ballot counting process.
Elections are supposed to produce confidence. California’s system too often produces confusion.
The joke works because it captures what millions of voters already think when they watch California results trickle out long after Election Day. At some point, the public stops seeing a careful process and starts seeing a political guessing game.
That is the problem.
California officials will tell you the long count is about processing mail ballots, verifying signatures, curing problems, auditing totals, and making sure every legal vote is counted.
Fine. Every legal vote should be counted.
But trust is not built by stretching results out for days and weeks while leads change, margins move, and voters are told to sit down, be quiet, and accept that this is normal.
Most Americans understand that close races take time. They understand that accuracy matters.
What they do not understand is why one of the biggest and richest states in the country so often looks like it is counting ballots with a calendar instead of a clock.
That is where the cartoon lands.
The image is not just about one politician. It is about a system that has made itself easy to mock.
When people are left watching new vote drops appear long after the polls close, the natural question is not partisan. It is basic common sense.
Why does this take so long?
Why does it always seem to move in one direction?
Why should voters trust a process that feels hidden from the people it is supposed to serve?
California’s leaders can complain about election skepticism all they want, but they should start by looking in the mirror.
A transparent, fast, understandable count builds confidence. A slow, confusing, extended count destroys it.
The bottom line is simple.
If a state wants voters to trust the results, it should not run elections in a way that makes distrust feel rational

Sit with that math. By his account the FBI nearly doubled the rate at which it rescues children and jails the people hunting them — in a single year — simply by deciding it was a priority and moving agents to where the crimes actually happen.

On June 4, the SAVE America Act — the Republican bill to require documentary proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote — died in the Senate. It did not die because a majority opposed it. It died because of the 60-vote filibuster. Ken Paxton, fresh off ousting John Cornyn in the Texas GOP Senate runoff, says that is exactly the problem.

𝐇𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜, 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨-𝐈𝐃 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 and, in his words, 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦 through what he describes as fraudulent mail-in schemes — the very abuses the SAVE Act was written to shut down. It puts the GOP’s deepest fault line on the table. Majority Leader John Thune has concluded there is simply not enough Republican appetite to scrap the filibuster, even for this. Rubio has made it clear that the Trump Administration unequivocally supports Ukraine... and Zelensky just sent a open-letter to Putin (which he also sent to every country) mocking Putin and threatening him with what the United States will do once the Iran situation is settled.

Since Rubio has said that the war cannot be resolved militarily, that can only mean that America will continue to pay in order to keep it that way... so, I'd say we are very much "involved".

Every time the West is assured that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful, the regime’s own mouthpieces say the quiet part out loud. The latest comes from Iranian economist Mohammad-Reza Yazdizadeh, who declared on a June 1 broadcast that Tehran 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐮𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲.
His math was chillingly specific. Iran’s stockpile of roughly 𝟒𝟔𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐦, he said, could be converted into 100 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘺-𝘣𝘰𝘮𝘣 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴 — each warhead packing about five kilograms of 60-percent enriched material. They would not flatten a city, he conceded. They would do something arguably worse: blanket it in radioactive contamination and leave it 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.
And he did not stop at deterrence. If Iran were ever attacked, Yazdizadeh warned, it would 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘞𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘰𝘯 directly — boasting that the regime already fields missiles with the range to reach the American homeland. It also confirms what critics of the endless negotiations have warned all along. Trump envoy Steve Witkoff has said Iran itself admitted to holding enough 60-percent uranium for as many as 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐮𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬. The 460 kilograms are real. The intent, as the regime keeps telling us out loud, is real too.

Now the state’s own top federal prosecutor says the questions are serious enough for the FBI. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli confirmed his office “𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘺”, working hand in hand with FBI agents in Los Angeles.

On March 23 the Supreme Court heard arguments in 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘷. 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘦, and by the end of this month it may hand down a ruling that resets what 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘋𝘢𝘺 actually means. The question is deceptively simple: when the law sets a single day to vote, must your ballot be in the hands of election officials by that day — or merely postmarked by it and counted whenever it wanders in?
The case targets a Mississippi law that counts absentee ballots received up to five business days after the election, so long as they were postmarked in time.
