Hebrews 5:9 - And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him

I always wonder how people continue to believe they are saved anyway if they aren't obedient to the Lord.

Some come right out and say that obedience is not required for salvation even though that's not what the Word of the Lord says.

Apparently this is further proof that some among us openly reject some things the Lord says as they walk in disobedience.

Back to the beginning... the point of eternal salvation.

That is believing on Jesus Christ. Admitting you are a sinner, headed for hell. Believing Jesus is God, that He can give you eternal life, forgive your sin. Then asking for salvation.

You must be a baby Christian.

I'd suggest you start with James 1:5 and ask the Lord to help you understand what it means to be a believer
You must be a jackdonkey.

I suggest you start with Galatians 5:19-23 and ask the Lord to manifest His character through you.

Now... would you like to answer the question I asked, or would you like to continue in the attitude you demonstrated in your response?

That is believing on Jesus Christ. Admitting you are a sinner, headed for hell. Believing Jesus is God, that He can give you eternal life, forgive your sin. Then asking for salvation.

Then after that continue living in sin telling everybody we are born sinners and could never stop sinning?
This is what many are doing.

It's gotten to the point where there's no much difference between Christians and sinners out in the world that reject the Lord.

If Christianity were made illegal, charges would be dropped against most Christians due to a lack of evidence that they are actually Christians! No wonder the world wants nothing to do with Christianity!

Hebrews 5:9 does not teach salvation‑by‑obedience; it teaches salvation‑that‑produces‑obedience.

OK so we have our first contestant who is saying we can live in disobedience and still be saved.

Bottom line here is Jesus is the author of eternal salvation ONLY to them that obey Him.
Those that disobey the Lord are living in obedience to the devil.

Romans 6:16 states: "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

You need to learn ASAP that disobedience is death and death is being separated from the Lord

I find that it’s because others tell them this and they accept it

Yeah, the devil is telling them this and they accept it.

Not hearing the right doctrine is destroying people

Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” It adds that because they rejected knowledge and forgot God’s law, God would reject them and “forget thy children.”

Proverbs 29:18 says: "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." (that would be the Law of Christ under the New Covenant)

Either way the obedience is there though it’s for those who obey him but look what it says for those who don’t obey the gospel

“and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power”

Pilgrimshope knows what's going on!

The seed is the problem, in this case.

Yeah, satan's lies are seeds that people receive which causes them to be separated from the Lord.

And the fake grace people claim it's not possible to be separated from the Lord after being born again which is explains why these people think they can live like the old devil and still be saved.

Well no one is sinless after being converted, but the Holy Spirit will spur His sons and daughters on, so usually you won't see someone who believed continue in persistent sinning.

I see you are new here. If you had spent much time at all on this forum you would know how wrong your evaluation of Dino is.

But you have been spraying your attitude all over the forum, so even without your offhand dismissal we can tell what kind of person you are, and how much to ignore you.

For the record you are so incredibly wrong about Dino that anybody who knows him will automatically laugh at you for such a ludicrous assessment.

I'mma go pop some more popcorn and sit down to watch the show! :D :D :D

Well no one is sinless after being converted

Yeah, it's too bad that even through the power of God's Word and the Holy Spirit it's not possible to stop sinning.

Jesus said all things are possible to him that believes and with God all things are possible but Jesus wasn't trained under reformed theology so some think Jesus is in error and needs to enroll in a reformed seminary so He can get up to speed with reality, right?

I don't follow reformed theology. Romans 6 talks about having grace and then why sin because of the grace given?

Then it goes on to talk about the battle between flesh and the Spirit.

Believers should go on to faithfulness in their walk, but the battle remains.

Been hanging out at the alter of this Dino guy, huh? Reminds me of "I am of Paul; and I of Apollos" referring to a division among early Christians in Corinth who were being carnal minded.

Your guy asked "Obedience to what, exactly? You say "obedient to the Lord", so I'm presuming you mean to His instructions and commandments in Scripture. So... which ones, precisely?"

He's either a baby Christian or he's preparing to argue that Christians can walk in disobedience and still be saved.

I'll let you fellas work that out among your own selves.

Proverbs 29:18 says: "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." (that would be the Law of Christ under the New Covenant)
Fallacy: chronological error. Proverbs 29 MUST refer to the law given at Sinai, not to the law of Christ.

The obedience is obedience to the faith, and that given by God, which is to say that through Jesus Christ, Savior, the elect are given everything needed in order to be and to remain obedient to the faith. It is all by God, nothing by man.

[Rom 1:4-5 KJV]
4 And declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
I am glad you two are in agreement.

mmhm the false teachers just like the ot false prophets …..
“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Yes a lack of the right knowledge and instead accepting the wrong knowledge

Yeah, satan's lies are seeds that people receive which causes them to be separated from the Lord.
My reference was to the seed's capability to ONLY bring forth after itself.
God's seed, from whom Christians have been reborn, cannot bring forth liars, thieves, or adulterers.
And the fake grace people claim it's not possible to be separated from the Lord after being born again which is explains why these people think they can live like the old devil and still be saved.
Yeah...too bad, huh ?
They give Jesus and His church a bad name/reputation.

Ep 4 29 I believe. You could break that down to mean "insults also." Some do praise GOD get Stuck on the word "obey." I think you missed what Heb 5:9 was talking about. What Christ did.. oh praise GOD glory to Jesus....yet you focus on "obey". Ok
In the New Testament, obedience is often used as a synonym for belief, as in obeying the truth.

1 Peter 1:22, "And they have not all obeyed the gospel," Romans 10:16. We are no longer slaves to sin. We've been set free. But as Paul said, "It is no longer I that sin, but sin that is in me." The flesh has not been changed yet. It loves to sin. If I say I have no sin, I deceive myself, and the truth is not in me. For by grace I am saved through faith not obedience, not works. Back to Eph I put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness, and I'm renewed in the spirit of my mind. I put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Salvation is John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10. Jesus said to them years later, "if you love me, you'll keep my words or obey me." The obedience for me is a fruit. It comes from Christ, who is the vine. I'm just the branch. He started a good work in me. He will finish it. Well, if you disagree with this, praise God. Leave it at that.

@ScooterJackson and @Freed18 - Thanks for standing up for God and what He says. This forum talks so much about being unable to stop sinning that people don't even try to obey God on being holy and perfect as He is holy and perfect.

God had brought those commands to my attention and I actually got nervous if I could obey Him on it. Both of you joined this forum at the right time - at least for me - about obeying these two commands. You are both right, if God commands us of these two, that means He thinks it is possible for us through His Holy Spirit.

So I'm excited to obey them now! I find in obeying God I understand more about such commands and how easy it gets through the Holy Spirit.

Of course we have to be obedient to God's commands which are the moral laws, laws of love.

Which charity, love in action, is greater than faith, and faith works by love.

If a person is not obedient then that is not love then no saving faith.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If a person hates sin, and does not want sin, and allows the Spirit to lead them to help them then they can be obedient to the commands of God.

And if not they are of the flesh and have no salvation for those in the flesh cannot please God.

2 Timothy 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Some people will not let go of the flesh and are disobedient and love sin more than God.

1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.

Of course we have to be obedient and to reject that there is no salvation.

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

A person that does not obey the commandments they are committing witchcraft and idolatry which they are exalting themselves and their ways above the ways of God.

To obey is better than sacrifice so those that are disobedient the sacrifice of Jesus does not apply.

Which many people say they cannot abstain from sin which means they are holding on to sin and disobedient.

They think they cannot fall because they believe they cannot stop sinning but they are not in the truth.

They will not let go of the flesh which they are ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Want to know what sin really is?

Don't even think the thought that the ten words define the totality of sin.

Mark 7:21-22
For from within, out of the hearts of people, come the evil thoughts, acts of sexual immorality, thefts, murders,
acts of adultery, deeds of greed, wickedness, deceit, indecent behavior, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.

Romans 1:29-32
People having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife,
deceit, and malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil,
disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful; and although they
know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same,
but also approve of those who practice them.

Galatians 5:19-21
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities,
strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things
like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not
inherit the kingdom of God.

Colossians 5:6-9
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire,
and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon
the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. But now you also,
put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another,
since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices.

Ephesians 4:31
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

Ephesians 5:3-5
But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any
kind of impurity, or of greed. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of
character, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is,
an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves,
nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

2 Timothy 3:1-4
But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money,
boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious
gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather
than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power. Avoid such men as these.
