Old grandma is going down memory lane and has started thinking about those fun days back in the day where it was chatting and voice chatting.

I remember the text chats in the late 90s, I had the oh so sweet screen name “Susana_Isabel”, golly, what was I thinking? Did I secretly want to be a Latina?

Anyways, when the voice chat option came it really became interesting. We were a steady team of people always meeting up talking about nothing about 10-12 years ago. There was a girl from Texas, a girl from Florida, a guy from India, a guy from Tennessee and some people from other places but these I mentioned are the ones I remember from that period. It was so fun. That Florida girl was from the Keys, and she didn’t get a word of what that TN guy was saying for weeks. She kept on saying ‘I can’t hear what you’re saying!’, but of course, me and that other Texas native understood him perfectly fine.

Those were the days lol.

IRC was a trap. Mostly it was people in the US and UK. I was up all hours chatting, but not by voice. It led to some good things but yeah, sleep was a problem, rather, lack of sleep.

I think I've been here since 2015/2016 if I recall correctly. Switched account 3 times. Yeah I remember those days...I am not sure what happened but the voice chat was nice. It is nice to hear people speak in their own voices. Those days were fun. Unfortunately I've lost touch with everyone from back then. 😊

I may or may not have been a chat stalker back in those days.

Certain voices and accents are like music to me, and I would have the chat going in the background when certain people were on because I loved listening to them. (All hail the amazing K, whom I still miss to this day.) Along with K, there were also some very talented mods who would lead the general chat room in asking how everyone's day went, etc. They created a very safe, comfortable space for people to hang out and feel like they belonged, especially with the young teens, which I loved seeing.

One great thing I miss about chats is that it's a lot easier to get to know people when you see them in real time. I love the forum threads but there's a whole other dimension that opens up when you can observe how someone reacts to others and a variety of situations right away.

All of the people I met in person on CC were ones I knew from both the forums and some type of live chat. It's a lot easier to get a feel for real personalities that way -- someone who writes completely sensible posts might flip out when something doesn't go their way in real time, or vice versa. Other people who seem perfectly sane might wind up having stalkerish vibes (always needing attention, etc.) and you learn to distance yourself from them. And sometimes other who might seem more combative in their posts might be perfectly lovely to talk to in a normal conversation.

Back when CC had a CC Singles chat room, there were about 20 regulars and we talked about having a meetup (this was in 2015.) In the end, 6 of us were able to somehow coordinate schedules and met in Texas, with most of us flying or driving from across the country. I miss those days.

I'd love to find others to eventually meet in person, but even I have to admit that I think it's nearly impossible to get to know someone at that level without a long period of real-time chatting.

What bugs me is that I can’t remember the names of those people I was chatting with. The girl from Texas had a lot of pink and bling in her avatar, the Keys girl I don’t remember, neither the guy from India, The TN guy I remember cause he asked me out and we actually went on a couple of dates. He was in the army so there was rarely a chance to keep the thing going, so it died down eventually.

I joined this site in 2009. The live chat rooms were a lot of fun and very addicting up until about 2014 when the fun started dying down. Most of the people who made it fun and addicting left the site. The forums shared the same fate.
