I think it's gross when relatives marry. That's why there were so many sick royalty from intermarrying each other.

If a woman is desperate enough, they can fly to Alaska where there are more men than women, and try to snag a husband there.
that's what the phrase means, some women are too expensive. some women "require" $1,000's of dollars a week spent on them.
Yeah....
There's more problems in today's culture than what he is addressing with male/female relationships....
And especially how much they have completely evaporated.
From 90% marital rates to less than 15%. That's an almost unheard of drop....that's an extinction level event.
I've been hearing more issues surrounding IVF treatments as well....
Where women get eggs harvested and frozen or young couples freezing embryos hoping for better finances later....
It's not the magic bullet they believed it to be.
To be a part of the American dream and what once was considered average.....spouse, house, and kids in the suburbs....all at the rich old age of 35....
It's now a completely luxurious lifestyle that only the rich people can afford.
Meaning only the wealthiest and most successful people are capable of having these things.
The daycare bill alone is as much or more than a mortgage payment....
This is not OK.
We are looking at demographic and societal collapse within 25 years. Meaning most adults between the ages of 40 to 70 are going to have a very very difficult time in their senior years.
This is going to become an serious issue. When there are no police, doctors, nurses, hospitals, military, firemen, social workers or even electricians or other maintenance people to change light bulbs or sweep the floors....
This is the nightmare we are heading for.
No one has a child wanting them to grow up to be a blue collar trash collector....
But without them we are sunk. We are heading straight for the abyss....hold on to your hats.

Jesus had said the poor is with us always. The chasm between the rich man and Lazarus, who lived off crumbs meant for a dog, is so huge it can't be breached.
The rich already have their reward in this life.

Ruth and Boaz
Ruth was a gleaner. She survived a famine. Boaz had lots of land, he was like a CEO of the barley fields. Ruth either had to marry him, or be taken up with the other gleaners, (possibly taken advantage of) or starve.
Naomi saw this opportunity and she encouraged Ruth to take it.
What would have been Ruth's fate if she'd not gotten married. Work her fingers to the bone for the rest of her days. When she falls pregnant and has a son, Boaz as the father is obligated to take care of her, but actually it's more for his son (and heir) that is the reason.
If Ruth hadn't had his child, he could easily discard her and find another woman.

But the birth rate in OZ is worse than America's.
The same thing is coming for you as well.
Nowadays, thankfully, there is no famine (God forbid) so, people can survive and lead a relatively comfortable life, esp women as we have our independence. We can work and make it on our own. We can vote, own property in our own names, and have bank accounts.
Depending on a man is risky. Divorce is expensive though, still it's an avenue women will take because she'd rather have nothing except the clothes on her back than stay one more minute with an abusive or unfaithful man. Children in a divorce will side with the parent who can keep them safe, and if they aren't safe from both parents, will end up being wards of the state, or fostered/adopted out before they reach 18 and are legally emancipated from their parents.
Meaning, they parent is not obligated to look after them after age 18. So many parents had kicked their children out after they've finished school or before, if they have a job. Poor parents make their children work to earn bread for themselves. Its the only way, which is why, if you smart, you value education to set up your child for the long term.
I don't know how it is for rich parents. I do know poorer parents who aren't smart want their children to find partners and have grandchildren as a way to make them stay - and its not unheard of to be advised 'have his child' as a solution to avoid working. You can get the benefit if you don't list the father. A lot of common or defacto relationships are like this and they don't see the need to marry, because there is no money to share let alone have a wedding.
So its not like nobody is having children. If your countries govt actually wants them, they will invest in them and provide for them up to age 18 with free education and healthcare.

Don't live in OZ
It is everywhere, so obvious it don't even need to be said.
We have billions of people now all needing to be looked after, and lack of infrastructure and jobs for them. And no future social security because everyone is in debt. So it doesn't matter, having more children is not actually going to help anyone as they will need to be housed and fed too.
There is actually a ministry called CAP - Christians against poverty. Don't know if anyone here is in it, but it does provide budgeting help and financial advice, which actually few people get growing up, esp if poor.

In the USA it isn’t really used as a serious expression, and it’s not usually about money. It’s mostly used as a self-deprecating joke about appearance or style. For example, a guy might say it because he thinks a woman is too good-looking for him or maybe she’s just 'too cool.' It’s really just an expression—most people don't actually think in terms of 'leagues' in real life. Hope this helps!
