I think maintaining good looks can be manageable. Budgeting will help. Also, you don't need the most expensive makeup to look good. As a matter of fact, buying really expensive makeup is a waste of money. You're just paying for the brand name and might not even be good quality.
Take Lancome for example. I remember that they introduced a line of eye makeup some time ago. I saw a makeup artist who was hired to promote it for Lancome in a video posted to YouTube, but the colors barely registered on her eyelids. Poor girl tried to make it work, but you could barely see it on her eyes. A total waste of money!
I have cheap makeup from the drugstore, and that does well enough of a good job. I don't wear makeup often, but I like applying minimal makeup for a polished look for church. Just foundation, blush, eyeliner on the top lids, lip balm and a neutral colored lipstick.
I have splurged sometimes for mildy expensive eyeshadow sold at Ulta from brands: Tarte, Urban Decay, Too Faced, Lorac, Buxom, and others. I buy them much cheaper or free with the Ulta points I earned from buying the cheaper drugstore level face washes, lotions, shampoo and conditioner, etc.
I buy these mildly expensive eyeshadow and can testify that the colors applied to the eyes are true to their color in the pan, don't fade or flake off, and last a lot longer than my cheaper eyeshadow. I use the cheaper eyeshadow to experiment with designs for my eyes or use them for occasions that are short.
I also like makeup for the creativity. I can't do them at all, but I love watching makeup gurus on Youtube sharing their looks.
My mum never wore make up.
She had great skin, not one wrinkle.
She never had to wear lipstick.
All make up does is cover freckles and blemishes, and it looks powdery up close, and you need to keep applying and reapplying, so she couldn't be bothered. She only did for special occasions which was rare.
I never learned, I can't even put a contact lens in lol. It's ok for other people, but the poking my eyes with a pencil doesn't appeal. Plus the chemicals, and I've never agreed with animal testing, which a lot of eye makeup has been done - on rabbits. So what happens is they test the product by putting it into rabbits eyes so that half of them die and they can somehow work out if its toxic or not. It was called the Draize test.
I'm all for skincare, but if you don't wear makeup you can just wash your face with water and it's fine.
I think nowadays people are more aware of the cruelty to animals side of cosmetics industry, and you can get vegan and cruelty free products, but this was not the case when I was a teen. Actually women who advocated for animal rights really lobbied for the industry to reform.

If a products warns you not to put it into your eyes that's a good reason not to use it. I mean you not supposed to or injest it, cos a lot of colour makeup had toxins like coal tar and even load and talc...and preservatives, alcohol etc.
When a product says no silicones, no parabens, no this and that...it's because those ingredients are toxic, cause irritation or are carcinogenic.
Anyway, thats just some of the reasons why I don't wear it and prefer to be au natural.
Besides, in magazines etc a lot of the pictures of women with flawless skin are that way because the photo has been retouched, and they've removed the flaws and shadows etc.
If you like colour, or want definition, wear colourful clothes, jewellery etc or have your hair done - I guess those with pale skin want definition or they can look a bit washed out, otherwise. I mean we would call those with pale skin 'ghosts' not actually white lol so its a little wonder they need to use blusher, eye shadow, and lipstick to make features stand out. It was originally used for theatre, the stage and screen instead of masks so people could see faces from afar. Now with close ups etc its hard to get away from the camera so a lot of women have botox and fillers but then they have a frozen face and can't emote so..I guess thats the price they pay!

Well, that's fine that you don't want to play with makeup, but why do I have to stop too?
To me it's fun because you can change your looks to match your outfit or occasion. I have gone on dates and I think that's a great time to wear makeup. Formal parties are another good reason. Weddings, other milestone celebrations, etc.
Also don't go by those cosmetic ads. They purposely load up their models with all that makeup because that is what they're selling. Most women I know who use makeup don't go overboard with it.
I think that's why makeup can be expensive. You really need so little of it that you don't need to buy if often. A good makeup palette with blush, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadows and lipcolor lasts a LONG time. So to make a profit, the cosmetic brands jack up their prices.
Also, I'm Asian and we don't wrinkle much so I don't see Botox at all in my future.
I was reading a memoir by Cher, and when I looked up her pics online, oh what happened to her face? In some she looks young, and others it's a bit freaky, and I wonder if she'd deliberately done it like that or had someone else do it for her.
I mean she's still recognisable as Cher, nobody would mistake her for anyone else.

Meaning the sharing goes both ways or not at all.
X is the number one social media network. More popular than Facebook or linkedin who both abused their membership.
When members are the product you are selling....best take care of them and not abuse them.
So far....
X seems less abusive than any of the others. No hoops to jump through to see what you want to see. No extra junk you don't want. Much much better than Facebook or the others.

There was one famous case where one of NZ media's darlings was so bullied on Twitter that she committed suicide. Her 'followers' directly wrote to her 'Why don't you kill yourself' on Twitter.
