Hello

I am currently the living embodiment of the destruction an 18 year long addiction has caused.
I'm currently waiting on a 12 week bible based recovery workbook to be delivered; a book I'm hoping can free me from the bondage of addiction.
Any prayer towards this will be much appreciated

Thank you

I have just passed the 15 year milestone of being clean and sober. It seems hard for me to believe it has been that long!!! I originally got clean and sober after crying out to God for help in 1994, after which I immediately lost the desire to use mind and mood altering substances, which I had been doing for 24 years at that point. I entered into a process of recovery which continued my involvement in EA, AA, saw me running to CoDA, and finding a home in NA. My first relapse was after eight years, but in the meantime I worked through the steps to the best of my ability a number of times, and did a lot of service work, mostly at the group level. I also got a lot of help from various counselors and therapists, which actually I had been doing for years before ever putting down the substances. But nothing made as much sense to me as after becoming a Christian, understanding my condition as a sinner in need of a Savior. The truth of the matter is probably that almost nobody comes looking for help hoping to find the One True God, but God is front and center regardless, and people stick around because of the support, direction, and inspiration they find in the rooms, and I still love listening to people's personal stories. After becoming Christian I also tried the Celebrate Recovery model, and I wonder if that is the book you are awaiting delivery of. Anyways, I wish you success in your endeavors, and hope also that you may find reading through this thread (<= link) helpful.

15 years, praise The LORD

wow, I have been on and off myself for 23 years with many relapses

my current stretch is 21 months, seems like forever and much different, as the last time The LORD let the demons have access to me, almost saying I will leave you here Bruce. within a few weeks of leaving me there, He Restored me. good reminder for me not to fall again... wow

15 years, that says a lot about your walk with the LORD.

I have prayed for you

I feel for you, I cannot imagine what you are going thru, yet if I speak from my own experience, I would say I am the foolish things of the world, and the choices of destruction I made, I am now living with them. (the hard road)

it is like you do not get away with anything, (yet in JESUS we absolutely do). yet the consequences of my choices have left me with a hard road, so I feel your pain.

If JESUS restores you, you will be in an excellent position for an education in JESUS. for that hard recovery road is filled with wisdom as one travels along with THE LORD, a special education awaits you.

Stay close to JESUS, lots of time in Prayer to THE GREAT G-D of Abraham I would suggest.. for this is our Strength

escape Egypt best you can...

this was and is my path, since I have been a Christian 23 years of trying to break free from addictions along the way with many relapses, I have been 21 months sober and much more than that, have exited Egypt almost entirely. and have a precious education, and Wisdom I have from the hard road I have travelled... yet I am still the foolish things of the world.

think how much better you will fair, and how much quicker you will learn.

I am routing for you!!!

in my experience, as a Christian I would show G-D I was fighting, and wanting deliverance from certain bondages, for many times as I struggle with different bondages, it is Like G-D would let me struggle for some time, and as I fought and perhaps things looked bleak, G-D would reward my efforts and take that bondage away all at once.. then it was on to the next battle.....

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY - Copy.jpg

Sept. 27, 1999, I too cried out, I need help. Through the "AA hotline," I got
connected to the 12-step program of AA, and the next day I walked through the doors
of my first AA meeting. By the grace of God, AA, and my sponsor, I have been
alcohol abstinent to this day, odaat. My spiritual journey continued from an event that
happened in my life about three years before. God's spirit came upon my life at a very
dark time, thank God I finally surrended to His calling.
"Amen"

You are welcome to follow the link that Magenta posted. A thread of sharing our
experience, strengths, and hopes. Real time, real life, here in the now.
I pray you come to learn that friends are closer than you may realize.

God has indeed worked a miracle in your life and I know that you are extremely grateful for the grace of God that has bestowed on you.

addictions are strongholds, spiritual in nature for Christians which is why they are so hard to break. I had a nasty porn addiction for over 30 years which I was only able to break after I was baptized.

-I have learned that without discipline and self-control, one's life can surely go amok.
With or without claiming to have God in one's life, and/or raised in a Christian atmosphere,
simply living life in general, discipline, and self-control should never be dismissed from striving to achieve.

Thank you for your prayer. It's good to know someone is routing for me! I hope I can be restored and I will spend more time in prayer.

Thank you for sharing your story, it is inspirational to say the least. I struggle with more than one addiction and may need to get involved in going to meetings. I too have seen counsellors and therapists over the years and got a lot of help from them. I see a therapist once a month now and it's becoming clearer to me what issues I need to bring into that space to help bring healing. It is a different book I am waiting for delivery but seeing as I have more than one addiction, I might also look into buying the Celebrate Recovery model, but I'll tackle one addiction at a time for now! Thank you again, and I'll be sure to check out the link you shared.

Wow that's amazing that you overcame a 30 year long addiction, it gives me hope in my own battles with addictions. I agree with you about addictions being strongholds and spiritual in nature for Christians: I came to the realisation last week that my own spirit is partially crushed from my addictions and also other aspects of life add to that crushed spirit: a 5 year long mental health crisis that was only resolved at the end of 2022 certainly did a lot of damage that lingers today in my mind and spirit. But I take comfort in what is said in the Bible about those who are "crushed in spirit".
