I was just watching "How I Met Your Mother" and an interesting question came up. Do guys
REALLY like it when women act like helpless little girls? Why or why not?

I do not. I know I'm strong enough, but it gets annoying to HAVE to be. I want someone that truly is my equal. Not necessarily the same strengths and weaknesses, but someone that has some incredible strengths!

Please quit raising your hand, might make people think you lied about your age! Or maybe you think that's a good thing. :p

Gosh i hate it when women act like that. I don't want to be your babysitter and hold your hand through everything. I llike a person who is confident. I will always be around to help, but i don't want someone being co-dependent all there life.

i think guys like to be the hero and the protector and kill spiders ect i think its the way God made us

so a little bit of helpless is ok but if you over do it i think its just anoying and unatractive

lol. I love this response..

But if any girl thinks i'd always be the *Super Hero*, then she's in for a VERY BIG surprise..

I guess God didn't make me like other guys..

If they are helpless from dumb things it makes the men who save them seem even dumber. "That's alright sweetie, the shower spider is gone now."

A real helplessness is something a real man can fix. Like fixing an alternator. Standing up for a woman when she is being slandered. Or even telling her parents the truth about how they treat her, because she doesn't have the courage to.

No, but I don't want her to be so stubborn that she refuses help when she needs it either.
If she is truly helpless in some area or situation for whatever reason, then sure I'd be glad to help. I'd count it as a priveledge. I do enjoy helping out.
If she's willing to learn, so she can do some new things when needed , then that's great too. If she has no desire to learn, but would rather always have even the tiniest little things done for her..then that's not attractive. I would hope to learn some stuff from her too, ideally.

I'm hoping that during a period of immense boredom you were channel surfing and settled on 'How I Met Your Mother' in one of those unexplainable moments of madness that every human being is, on occasion, susceptible too?

To your question, no I don't like it because it's not adult behaviour, like you said it's more like the way little girls behave.
Some guys like it because they like to be the hero and have a woman feeling indebted to them, which is little boy behaviour, so any relationship where that is on display you're just seeing the manifestation of immaturity, and some seriously bad 'comedy'.

Bingo. I totally agree with this. Men have a total hero complex, on average, but a man likes to know a woman has his back in a pinch as well.

For me that's a big YES, because its a chance to be someone's hero.

Sure, the "helpless" woman can be attractive to those of us with Knight in Shining Armor Complex, but it wears thin and gets old quick.

I think men have a natural leader/protector/helper instinct so it does make us feel valued to help a woman but at the same time I think we also value a woman who can do things and contribute, hopefully things we are not inclined to or good at. :D

There's a lot more to liking a girl than that. However, to address the issue raised:
A girl can act that way out of neediness, laziness, manipulation or from just being pathetic. On the other hand, it can be done out of genuine cuteness, wanting to give an obvious opportunity for 'her' hero to earn points.
Personally, so long as it's done in a nice way, it can be a lot of fun. But the relationship dynamic really needs to be fun in the first place for it to work. That way, the guy can be macho and validated for it by his gf/wife without taking himself too seriously or becoming a (insert appropriate word here). Also, the girl can be girly while being loved and paid attention to by her bf/husband without becoming pathetic or self obsessed.

To summarise my reply to your question, it REALLY depends on those involved and the dynamic of their relationship. :D (Romance is different things to different people)

I believe I was told by a man once that I need to remember that guys like a damsel in distress... and I need to be weaker in order to adopt this scenario.

Of course I rolled my eyes but acknowledge that there is something about being too strong. So I appreciate this question and these responses a lot.

I should have watched the entire show before I posted this and I probably would have had pretty much the same answer. :) [ I'd been listening to a movie while I packed up Christmas stuff and it came on right after, wyler, but I probably really should repent :D ] At the end of the show it shows the guy picturing the girl in pigtails and kneesocks with an ice cream cone in her hand and he says..."It's over. I'm outta here." The jist of it was that it was cute in small doses, but obnoxious after awhile. When I watched the first part, I had the same reaction as the character Robin on the show...seriously??? I'll probably never get married then. :D

I think my confusion probably stems from a very military stepdad (who will always be my hero) who encouraged independence and strength because he felt that we should champion those who may truly be helpless, such as the aged, children, mentally/physically challenged; but the rest of us needed to grow a backbone and pull our own weight, regardless of gender. I'm a little less rigid than that I hope :D and am usually among the first to champion the underdog, but I'm going to have to go with perdonato here. I would feel totally manipulative if I were to try and pull that off....gag.

Maybe men and women have different definitions of what it means to be a hero. For me, a hero is someone who puts himself out there without regard for personal risk to protect or change the world for as many people as possible, whether he be a soldier, doctor, politician, pastor, Sunday School teacher, teacher or awesome father/head of household, not some guy who gets weak-kneed just cos I bat my eyelashes. :D If a guy caught me even trying to pull something like that and said, "That is so not going to work with me, lady", I would probably want to MARRY that guy!!! :D I want a guy who actually wants a helpmate, not someone whose ego constantly needs feeding...ugh.

Thanks for your input. :) Most christian guys SAY they want the Proverbs 31 woman (extremely strong and capable) and actually complain about women looking for a knight in shining armor; but deep down, it appears this might not actually be true, huh?

The scenario:

-Guy wakes up in bed with wife gently shaking his shoulder and whispering.

Honey, wake up. I hear intruders downstairs.
*rubs eyes* Huh? What's going on sweetheart?
Downstairs, I hear burglars or... something.
Oh right, well we are in a pretty rough area on mission, it's to be expected. (yawn) Ok, give me a sec and I'll take care of it.
Oh no silly. *bats eyelids and smiles* You've had a big day negotiating with officials and organizing local milita. Besides, you'd just tear those stitches I put in from those bullet wounds. Let me take care of things this time. I'll be back in a jiffy.
As you wish my dear.

*guy hands extra mags to girl as she straps twin pistol holsters on then heads stealthily downstairs*
*Silence is interrupted my the sound of guns blazing, glass smashing and baddies groaning as they crash to the floor*
*Girl returns with the faint sweet smell of cordite lingering on her like perfume*

All sorted sweetheart?
*girl giggles* Of course silly, you need to ask? I was trained by the best after all.
Haha, well thanks. Is that why you married me?
Well that, and also because you make a fantastic lasagna!

And they lived adventurously ever after.
