Some of what you are quoting as fact, is most likely Baloney.
Josephus overly casts the Roman army as so noble.
Most likely the romans burned it all up.
Then had Josephus under duress to make the romans look like nobelmen.
That josephus account of events looks so fake.

What doctrine is hanging in the balance?

The only thing I can think of concerning motive / doctrine is to make israel look like it is so pathetic that God has nothing to do with them.

It would have a lot to do with who the prince is in Daniel 9:26. Yes, Josephus seems to be our sole source for what happened at the destruction of the Temple. How much of it is true??? I don't know. Yes, Josephus would have a motive for favoring Titus, but then Josephus was also a Jew, and he would have a motive for defending his own heritage.

Reasons to believe that it was the Jews who burnt the temple.

One would be that "people" instead of "army" was used to describe those that would destroy the Temple.

Dan 9:26 ---and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary----.

Another reason to consider would be the fact that the prince destroys the city because of abominations of the people. Would an anti-Christ do that?

Dan 9:27 ----and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate,---

Has zero to do with whether the writings of Josephus are to b e accepted as being on the same level as God's Word.
