In order to prevent your inevitable rejection of me, I will destroy any warm feelings you may harbor. This is called self destructive behavior, but in my warped mind, it is self preservation.
 
I will not believe you are honest if you say anything nice about me. You are either being nice, trying to boost my self esteem, or being patronizing. No compliment goes unanalyzed for its “true” meaning.
