And this is why literalism stinks.

Literal Landreth: "Hi. I'm the guy from the internet. I'll take everything you say out of context, take it literally and then ridicule you for it."

Random Guy: "Wow, that sounds like no fun at all."

Literal Landreth: "Oh so you're saying everything should be fun? Well gee, I'm sorry we can't all be as much fun as you. Maybe next time you should do some research before you make a fool of yourself like that again."

Random Guy: "Wow, you ARE him! You're a legend!"

Literal Landreth: "I'm sending you five links that aren't nearly as relevant as I think they are."

blondieindahouse,

Saint Paul was talking about the pagan infiltrations in the Christian worship, not about marriage...

Also, when he called Christians saints, he wasn't expecting us to boast that we are saints. He called them saints because, as I said, he loved them and wanted to see them as God sees us: in our best version.

[h=1]1 Corinthians 13:4-8New International Version (NIV)[/h]4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Perhaps you think that these too are "wishy, washy words" (?)

I'm not usually left speechless but your post almost made that happen. The whole point of dating is getting to know someone. I've had plenty of dates where I did not initially know the faith of the woman. When it is revealed that they are not Christian and have no interest in knowing Him, then there's no second date. Gimme a break.

Join the club. Your post did leave me dumbfounded! You do not understand Gods word.
He never instructed us to date willy neally. Instead we are to discern BEFORE we go out with someone. Just imagine if you did your homework before you took her out.
Imagine what a better steward of your time and money you would be? Your flesh is leading you. If that were not so; you would not be taking it so lightly. You have an emergent attitude. You cannot serve mammon and God. Choose whom you will serve!
Someone walking according to the faith is the first rule of whom you choose to go out with.
Perhaps you do not know the true meaning of discernment.
Dating is a sport of those in the world. We are not OF the world but just IN it!

We are a peculiar people!

"But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

I agree with you blondieinthehouse, that it is not a good idea to date a Muslim man, for example. Or any kind of man who is not ready to accept you as a Christian and all the package that comes along with you being a Christian.

I wouldn't guarantee either the success of a relation based on the solely fact that a man is a self-proclaimed Christian.
We tend to idealize Christian men and think that our marriage is going to be perfect just because we checked their religious belief. We have examples of broken relations, right here, on the Christian Family Forum.

I'm in agreement with you. I had a long-distance (1500 miles) relationship that worked out quite well.

Tourist, I'm not sure why you keep quoting me. I had a long-distance (2,200km) relationship that didn't work out. They can work for some people, but not for others.

Just because one didn't, doesn't mean another won't, but that's entirely your choice.

I met my husband online back before that was done, we were long distance for about 6 months, one of us moved and we married 6 months later.

Yes, I know some other people that have had successful long-distance relationships, that's why I mentioned that 'they can work for some people, but not for others'.

Sorry for the intrusion. I think I'll go elsewhere.

Guys are visual be very careful ladies what you say and do with body I personally try my best not to mention myself showering in the past i might have thgt it was funny that i mention in a story to a guy how i found my nephews optimus prime toy in the shower and think nothing of it but that can cause my christian brother to stumble he not only thinks of your naked body in the shower but he replays it in his mind he gets trapped. I wasnt aware of such things in my ignorance untill christian men spoke up about the battle in the mind . Its not old fashion its wisdom .

I wanted to apologise about how I said this I shouldnt have used my own body as an example I didnt think about how it would be awkward and uncomfortable my intention was not be insulting to
men I made a mistake

Speak for yourself!
I never said a truly godly man was the only criteria in my book:)

In love with what? Christ or their flesh?

Philippians 3:3
For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh--

In love with what comprises the other. Could very well be the flesh. People fall in love everyday. In my own circumstance I asked God to search and find my heart's desire and that we would place God in the center of our relationship. In is a love triangle. A lot of people are initially attracted to the other for one reason or another and they take it from there, often with disastrous results because God was excluded in the decision making process. I'm just telling you my own personal observations on formation of relationships apart from my own married relationship with the woman that I love.

I know the Word of God and chances are I know His grace more than you because I've needed His grace more than words can say.

Now back to the OP. I've been walking with God all my life, and He has blessed me with an awesome personality that multitudes of women adore. I've dated many women who were either not Christian at the time we met or they were weak in the faith, yet the time we spent together was glorifying to God because they saw my love for the Lord and they were encouraged to embrace Jesus with their entire being, as I have.

Such dates have had eternal, positive implications for some of these women because their faith grew exponentially. God allowed me to plant a few seeds and the rest is glorifying history. And like I said in my first post, to those women who were not interested in knowing God, there was no second date.

Actually, the bible doesn't address the idea of dating because DATING DID NOT EXIST IN BIBLICAL TIMES.

Therefore, to point out that someone isn't following the bible based on how they date isn't accurate. Anyone who dates at any time isn't following the method presented in the bible.

Here's how it worked in the bible:

1. A woman was property owned by her father or a male relative.
2. This woman was given in marriage with or without her consent based on various factors that appealed to the person who owned her.
3. The woman was then owned by her husband.

See...no dating...no "courting"...no actual effort or involvement on the part of the woman at all. Remember how Leah was forced to marry a man who didn't love her because her father made her do so? That's what I'm talking about.

So, to imply that someone is "going against God" because they don't hire a private investigator to properly vet a person before you decide to buy them a cup of coffee and have a conversation is engaging in interpretation and NOT based on any biblical text.

It's no use to beat someone with a doctrine stick when there is no doctrine regarding a particular practice. You might as well go off on people who use iPhones and call that anti-biblical as well.

Wha?

My advise is based on scripture and it is just good common sense for those who adhere to Gods teaching.
Your analogy speaks for itself. WOW!

Prov 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

You're a breath of fresh air, my Lady. Thank you for your sound wisdom and insight. :)
