Evil is a mind set for sin to take place. Evil is unrightousness, evil cause one to sin, So in a sense evil is sin, because in 1 John 5: 17 says: All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death

The sins that do not lead unto death are hidden or secret faults (Psalm 19:12) or unintentional sins (Leviticus 4:2-3) falling short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and sins that are confessed (1 John 2:1) (1 John 1:9). For when a brother struggles with a specific sin, they can have another fellow brother pray to give them "life" (success over sin) in this area. For 1 John 5:16 says, if any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. For a Christian can even see another brother committing unintentional sin and or not being perfect before our Lord. This brother can help to give them "life" to overcome these sins that do not lead unto death.

But even unintentional sin needed to be taken to the priest and cleansed. It was still evil to a Holy and pure God. That is why Jesus Christ came. To take away the sins of the entire world. So that when a baby dies, the sin from Adam passed down to them by the male seed is not imputed to them. For Jesus paid the price for all sin and can only be forgiven for those who are innocent and or righteous in the fact that they repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ (Thereby putting on the robe of righteousness).

Is death evil or good? Is sickness evil or good? Is pain evil or good? Are any of these sins?

Death, sickness, pain, are the result of sin. They are a form of punishment from God. You can't say a form of punishment from God is bad. They are evil to us. Yes. Because they can harm us physically. But God is primarily concerned more about our spiritual state than our physical state. Yes, our bodies are the temples of God. But even the bodies of the apostles had been tortured and persecuted to the point of death. Evil cannot be separated from sin. They are one and the same. There is no sin that is good.

Nope, those are all consequences of sin, but not sin themselves.
yes thats why i said its the sin that causes those things you mentioned. God don't want death, evil or sickness to happen to anyone. But the enemy does. God allows certain things to happen to turn it around for the good. think about this verse.

1 john 5: 17.
All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

What does the first part of the verse say to you? what's wrong doing? what causes wrong doing? were does wrong doing come from?

There is no distinctive difference between evil and sin because I can say sin is evil and be correct. There is a difference between male and females. Although Eve came out of Adam and they are to become one flesh (in a sorts), they are still distinct and different from one another physically in appearance, behavior, and biologically in the way that they reproduce.

I'm not being a Yoda, but Evil leads to sin, sin leads to Satan, Satan leads to hell, sin and his followers leads to hell.

I believe the intent of the OP is not to go into deep spiritual classifications, but rather talking about what has been dealt with on the Cross... why people say "oh, but there is still evil in this world"... that is at least how I understood the post... as an endevour to make some difference and explain why evil is still hanging around, I guess it has not been done perfectly though.

Something just occurred to me that I had not thought of yesterday regarding the connection between sin and evil. Whether or not these two are always the same would have to depend upon how one defines what evil is, for example, We see a number of times is the OT where God had brought evil upon one nation or another or even upon certain individuals. This evil took different forms such as plagues and natural disasters. While there things are defined a evil brought upon them by the Lord they are not in and of themselves sin. On the other hand, sin and evil as a behavior can not be seen as separate.

That doesn't really mean anything unless you can provide real world examples letting us know the difference between something that is evil versus say something that is sinful.

I say this because Jesus used real world examples to illustrate spiritual truth.

or we just look at sin from Gods viewpoint, and not mans viewpoint, and we see that c does = a

when we think c does not equal a we get to the legalist view that since I do not commit "evil" sins, I am ok, And I can justify my sin and declair myself righteous, because I am comparing myself to the "evil" person standing next to me and not comparing myself to a holy righteous God.

Matthew 12:11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?

They are disobeying the laws of God, but it isn't an evil act. It is an act of righteousness.Like Job, he didn't obeyed the laws that says that if anyone of your family or clan disobey any of God's laws and which that is a sin against God, shall be cut off from the vine; but Job loved his children that he didn't obeyed the laws, because of an righteous act.
ah, but did he disobey the law? or did he disobey mans interpretation of the law?

I think when people think of evil they think of Hitler or Stalin, and people like them,

I think God answers the question, when he says he is patient, and not taking an active role, because he is willing that non should perish, Sadly the state of the world is so against god, sometimes it takes things lake natural disasters, and extreme evil people to get people to look at God for help, which has led to many a salvation.

If it was not that way, I do not think would allow all these things to occur, because it was not his plan from the beginning,

Sadly, as we read scripture, those disasters of men and nature are just going to get worse, not better

Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Jeremiah 4:18 Thy way and thy doings [action, sin which is also evil] have procured these things [consequences of sin, they are not sin they are just evil] unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

Might have to do with this...
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
The Cross did not remove this principle.

I take it you seen the new Star Wars 7 teaser trailer. Trying not to be excited in seeing this film but I am striving more to figure out how I can use the film as a witnessing tool for Jesus Christ when it comes out. Anyways, getting back on track, as I am sure you are aware, what you said essentially is a classic quote from James 1:15. Lust when it is conceived, gives birth to sin, and then sin leads to death. James is talking about traditional external sin that people commit. His focus is on the external within his book. James 2 talks how if faith does not have works, it is dead. James is not talking about salvation by works (as you might know) but is trying to get the people he is writing to repent of having respect of persons and in despising the poor. A true born again child of God with the Lord living within them is not going to do such things as a way of life. A caterpillar can't make artificial wings to fly. But it needs to be transformed into a butterfly in order to fly. True repentance is that metamorphosis type process whereby a person's heart is changed so that God can live within them. James was talking about what the final external result should look like. He was trying to show them what a true saving faith looks like after a person had been saved or changed spiritually.

Now, James was not denying and or trying to contradict Jesus's words on committing adultery in one's heart by lusting after a woman. Adultery is sin. So that means a person can commit sin in one's heart by lusting after a woman internally. In other words having wrong desires or lusting after something that is not good for you is sinful and or evil. For one the reasons the world was destroyed once by a global flood was because of man's thoughts were evil (i.e. sinful thoughts).

I recently addressed this point (if you are interested), my friend.

Yes, they'd did violated the laws to save a life, and which the laws were to teach them or show them how to behave righteously, loving and caring toward all things and which the ones that has reached that point has fulfilled the laws and which means that they became holy, wholeness, completed.

Matthew 12:12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

yes, so they did not break the command.

Jesus states so right here, it is lawful to save a life on the sabbath, it would not be breaking the law.

Jesus purposely went around breaking pharisee law on purpose, to prove it was not Gods law.

Whatever evil you point out in this world can be tied to a sinful action or sinful thought. Death, disease, animals behaving badly, earthquakes, and tornadoes (not killer tomatoes) are all forms of God's punishment on sin. They are a form of God's justice against sin (Which is all a result of Adam and Eve's act of evil or sin within the Garden).

In other words, you can't say God's punishment on sin is evil per say.

No doubt and it seems that old adage is still the same....Those today who teach the doctrines/traditions of men as the commandments and or ways of God......

I am not saying that.
God says this in the Bible and if God Himself uses a term in a certain way I believe it is safe to use it. I think it's common sense that God is not evil. He reproves the sinner by letting people get some taste of their own medicine. He has even designed tastes to testify about Him.

Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee (...) know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God [sin]...
Jeremiah 4:18 Thy way and thy doings [sin] have procured these things [visitation or reaping of sins] unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter

Lamentations 3:15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
Because they would not drink the living waters...

2 Chronicles 18:22 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.
Because he would not believe the truth... etc.

amazing how people want to Make Gods law more than it is, (to make themselves appear more righteous) or make Gods law less than it is (to excuse their own sin)

It seems they fail to understand one simple verse concerning the law....That it was our schoolmaster that takes us by the hand, proves our inability to keep it fully and points us to the cure--->Jesus...And when we are in Jesus the condemnation of the law (which proves our guilt before God) is no longer hanging over our head waiting for our last breath.....!
