So, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. I don’t like being called ‘Ma’am’ even though I’m well into that senior section of life where such patronizing comments are to be expected.

Men, on the other side, have no problem with being addressed ‘Sir’, no matter how old or young they are. It’s a blast to them! Same goes for Mister. They’re all good whatever they’re called.

The bottom line here is that men don’t age like us. I’m 49 and men 20 years older than me can make me blush. I don’t think that’s the case the other way around…

Speak for yourself sister! The kids at w*rk call me Mr and I gripe at them. I'm not old enough to be a mister yet!

I've never minded being called "Ma'am." I guess I saw it as someone thinking I was more grown-up, and not a little kid.

I'm in this weird situation now where a lot of women call me "Miss," "Honey," and "Baby," in a way that I'm sure they think I'm younger -- when in fact, I'm pretty sure I'm older than they are -- sometimes by quite a few years. :LOL: I don't mind. I see it as a term of endearment.

I also feel honored when younger women confide in me, because they often see me as a peer and not just an old lady! :ROFL:

I figure, I'll try to enjoy it while it lasts.

One day I know I'm going to wake up and no one will have any doubts about my age, which will be a bridge I'll have to deal with when it gets crossed.

(What happens to a person's identity when they've been seen as one way their whole life, and all of a sudden, no one sees them that way anymore?)

Men age like fine wine....better with age.
Case in Point: Sean Connery.
Women age like strawberries....only pretty when young and fresh. Case in point: Goldie Hawn. (Plastic surgery has done her zero favors while Kurt Russell keeps his looks and appeal)

Not saying that the value of a person is in their appearance....far from it. Their true worth is in their relationships with others and God. Beauty may only be skin deep but ugly goes to the bone.

"Sir", like "distinguished", is another way of saying "old". Aussies are not given to formality, so I am inclined to think they are reminding me that I'm 74.

That is the most idiotic thing I have ever seen you say on this forum.

I mean... I know a lot of guys AND girls share this opinion. That's how the makeup industry makes big bucks. But that doesn't save it from being unmitigatedly stupid.

Apparently you have never tried good, aged strawberry wine. Or met a man who has turned to vinegar.

I'm 60 so I hear "Sir" or "Mr" from time to time.

No, I don't think I've earned either. 🤔
 
Here one is bound to call an older person with a title attached. we don't call people by their names. For me it makes no sense.
At my church, people older or younger call me aunty, Evangelist, ma'am. I don't have a problem with it But sometimes people use these appellations to tell you you are older than them. It is at that point that I find it problematic.

I'm only 24 and people call me ma'am.i don't mind. It doesn't mean I'm old. I even have older people calling me ma'am .Perhaps is not about the age.I think they rather think it decent and polite to address people as such.

Some might say Christians get more beautiful as they age, but after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
