Just curious if you ever came across people who thought you were a snob, because you're a christian and don't conform or like certain worldly things? Also, do you find it difficult to bond with people that aren't believers?

I get along with non-believers rather well. They do view some Christians as snobs, but not me.
I know on this site I need to enforce rules and such, but in RL, it really doesn't phase me if folks talk like they shouldn't.

Most non-Christians I know respect where I'm coming from. They may tease and joke on some stuff, but it's not coming from a mean spirit.

Not so much as Snobby but more like very Picky when it came to men. I think the assume that because there were certain things I would not compromise on, that their had to be a laundry list of items. But I think they felt comfortable around me because they knew I would not be the living daylights out of the for their beliefs, and yet they also knew where I stood.

Now, I do know that their are many people who claim to be Christians, and they have a tendency to be very snobby, even around other Christians. Is it possible, Arwen, that a lot of these people are more use to the Snobby Christians and just associate you with them?

Well this was more of a hypothetical question I guess, but I have come across this in the past with a roommate of mine. Tonight though, I didn't want to watch a particular show while I was visiting with my parents, and I wondered if I am giving the impression that I am too good for it. Sitting on my Christian high horse. It seems like there is a delicate balance of being in this world and not of it

Arwen,

Many times I find myself actually feeling MORE comfortable around unbelievers because they don't put on an "Everything is wonderful and I love the Lord" mask. NOT saying that all Christians do this but I find so many Christians I know put on their "happy Sunday faces" when their lives are a total mess (I'm not talking about true faith, but rather, when people won't face reality) and they're taking it out on everyone around them but tell me how wonderful Jesus is. I prefer realness to recited cliches, even if it's raw and unedited.

I once got in a relationship because my friends at the time told me I was being a Christian snob for not dating someone in a situation I wasn't comfortable with (he was a single father and most of my friends were all single moms. Some people are cut out to be parents... I don't think I'm one of them and tried to explain this to my friends, and BOY were they angry. Told me I wasn't being open minded at all.)

My biggest opponent was one of my most Christian friends... I hope I never give in to such pressure again. I learned a good lesson. Just because people criticize you and throw "the love of Jesus" in between their sentences doesn't mean you should necessarily listen to them.

Nah. There are certain things and types of difficult people I prefer to avoid. But not because I'm snubbing it out of my being a Christian. It is because I prefer not to engage in those things out of choice. They don't interest me. I try to align my choices with the things in the Bible anyway, I guess because I was raised on that, and it stuck on me. :)

As a person, I hardly fit in with the Christian stereotype. I laugh at crude jokes. I'm into psychology. I listen to nonchristian rock and metal. I'm in a relationship with a man who isn't a Christian. I have controversial opinions (I won't get into them here because I hate debating with a passion, and it's pointless). I don't go to church, I do not think I would fit in there. Do I feel like people on this forum might snub my choices? Absolutely. Do I care?
Kind of...But not for the right reasons.
I know I shouldn't care what people think of me anyway.

Cause I know I have a good heart that desires to do what is right. That is what Jesus looks at first. Not all the other stuff.

I've befriended believers and unbelievers alike. Anyone can teach us a lesson that aligns with words from the bible, even in an unexpected accidental way. Not just a fellow believer. But anyone. I try and be accepting of everyone. Especially the misunderstood. I'm introverted as heck, but I doubt people think I'm a snob.
I'm too insecure to give that vibe...

There are two ways to look at almost everything: God's way and the world's way. "Snobs" (world's way) are just "people you don't talk to much, because you have little in common with" (God's way - I Cor. 6:14). People who do not know God's way can only look at you the world's way, and hence you can be a snob to them. You can see from the other responses that bonding abilities vary, as some are more called to outreach to the unsaved than are others.

People will normally react according to how we say and do things (or not do them) more than to the thing itself. If we approach issues with a genuine heart rather than a self-righteous attitude, things go a lot better, which is why the Lord told us to do all things in love. :) They may think us strange even then (and we are...we don't belong here), but in the end, most people will respect us even if they do make silly mocking comments about christians behind our backs. :)

I really don't run into the 'snobby' issue...

My (non-Christian/Christian) friends and family all know that I don't indulge in certain practices, alcohol/sleeping around/smoking/foul language/watching dubious video/internet content etc...and they just accept...they take me as I am and if they didn't they wouldn't be my friends , nor would I hang out with them...

So, just be yourself with people...and enjoy your salvation! ;)

Yahweh Shalom...

I don't really find a lot of people thinking this about me, even though there is a lot of stuff I won't do or watch as a Christian, and people know it's because I'm a Christian.

I've found, on the other hand, Christians who refuse to watch secular shows as innocent as Boy Meets World because they think they promote immoral values. I've also met plenty of Christians who think rock music is of the devil and that you'll go to hell for playing guitar at church.

I can't say I have come across people who thought I was a "snob" being a Christian and Born Again at that. However, some seemed to not be that concerned to begin with in what another person's religious preference is and why they do things the way they do. They apparently felt that was strictly a Personal matter and left it at that.

And no, I don't find it difficult to bond with folks who are not believers because you have to realize that even Jesus would often be with sinners and those who did not accept Him and His teachings and there were many who were converted. Therefore, I consider it a real honor and an opportunity when I can speak to a non-Believer and get him or her interested enough to hear my message of Jesus Christ and to have them pause to listen and then show an interest in learning more about Jesus. That has happened quite a few times and there have been some who have even told me they started going to church and reading Christian literature and I then told them to consider becoming Born Again in Jesus which is something they were certainly lending an ear to.

I know the work is hard and not everyone is going to change overnight but we Christians have to start somewhere and letting them know about and hear about who Jesus is and what He did and what He can do for them in their own life such as being the Source of Salvation and what salvation means to them not only here but in the Afterlife is what can get many interested and we really have to go out into the world and let them know about this as the Bible has said we must do and what feels so right personally in my heart to do.

We ALL need to go out into the world to let the world know about Jesus Christ! Much MORE has to be done in this regard!

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;" -- MARK 16:15-18 (KJV

I have had such a hard time with this, a lot of frustration from it. Sometimes it seems like its a lose lose situation.

People assume all kinds of things about me, most of which aren't true.

When im introduced to someone they'll say exactly this, Hey this is Holly, i'll say hi then the person will go... her parents are so and so! I have zero chances of making any friends after thats said. This happens with christian and non christians alike.

The christians think i must be the holier than thou type who never sins, and the non christians say stuff like ... oh her dad and mom are blah blah blah... so she doesnt DOOO stuff like that. I feel very out of place in church groups especially.

I admit now for years i havent even tried to make friends anymore over this. Its embarassing and hurtful to have people not only think your snobby, but say so to your face. Its not worth it to me anymore.

That sucks. :(

Some people are so unfair.

I don't have problems with non believers as long as they are ok with that- that i believe in God.
I hate whn someone makes stupid or rude-jokes about God and thngs that are important to me.
Once i had to say to a guy-> Ok, i'm sick of your stupid jokes. If you wanna see me again-keep your mouth shut whn i'm around. Don't wanna hear your stupid jokes anymore.

Can't imagine how tough it is to be a PK. Bless you!

Most people are respectful and know what I believe. If they comment it's jokingly. However, growing up I had one person that would call me names because of my beliefs. What I found amazing about this is that this was taking place when I was just starting to go to church and I was very quiet about my faith (in the sense that I didn't just tell people unless they asked).

College was different, nobody ever called me snobby, but another girl would constantly be "evaluating" everything I did. If it didn't align with her idea of a christian person, she would let me know. She was also one to mock when I didn't join in with worldly things. It was from this experience that I realized that people are going to be intimidated by Lord's people and that will make people uncomfortable and defensive, more often than not making us out to be "snobby" person.

For those who have experienced these things, just remember that most likely it has nothing to do with you. As time goes on God's people are going to stick out and more and more people are going to come against us believers.

I usually throw scripture at no good sinful heathens if I hear them use evil language like d**g and c**p. I'm even having a hard time typing those words edited because they are such a manifestation of evil and entropy. Oh, and if they're driving anything older than a 2010, it's pretty obvious that they're not blessed, and therefore not righteous, and I warn those people they need to turn or burn.

LOL!!!!

:p

I was beginning to wonder if I am just a snob that happens to be a Christian lol  Seems like the majority of the people responding don't have this issue lol I guess its each to their own. I remember having a roommate who would invite his buddies over to watch a hockey game and drink beer, and there was this one guy who would swear so much; every second word was the f-word. I'd hang around in my room or get out of the house, because I don't want to be around that. It was driving me crazy  I just don't see why swearing so much is necessary; it just shows how their compensating for something, trying to prove their cool. Learn some vocabulary already; there are other words that can be used to express oneself! But as a result, I was labelled as a snob.

Another rant from yours truly, arwen ;)
