We get a lot of coyotes here. I used to be afraid because I'd never seen one, but once I saw one it was just like seeing a medium-sized dog. It was even at night and it didn't scare me. It was snooping around a mostly empty parking lot. Someone I know used to get them in her backyard a lot and she said she just shoos them away and they take off running. They're not the snarling, vicious animals that they portray in movies and stuff. They're more like stray pets..

Yeah, pretty much. There have been only 2 reported cases of fatal coyote attacks in North America, to my knowledge. One was a toddler, and the other was a 19 year old singer from Canada on a trail who seems to have been ambushed in her sleep.

Most coyote attacks seem to happen in areas that have a combination of high human population and high coyote population, because the animals become jaded to human presence and there are enough other coyotes to give them more confidence in attacking larger prey.

You're much more likely to be attacked by a stray dog than a coyote, IMO.

The greater danger with coyotes in more populated areas would be what is commonly known as a Coy dog (basically a Coyote / Feral dog mix). Coyotes by nature are rather shy when it comes to humans, but a coydog usually ends up missing the innate fear of humans.

Yes, coydogs (someone really should have come up with a better name for them... even dogyote would have been better) present much more of a threat than pure coyotes do.

Although, in some areas where they have reintroduced wolves, there have been coyote-wolf crosses happening, which is also a dangerous combination. Those crosses breed back into the coyote population (since they would be low-status in a wolf population, but high status in the coyote population), resulting in a physically larger, more dangerous coyote population.

Go figure, something so beautiful... Is devastating to us...

But that doesn't mean I don't want to catch a slight glimpse of those lights... Too bad I wouldn't be able to catch it on my camera... But still. Something to have on my bucket list. Whether I accomplish it or not.. Still would be awesome to see it.
 
If that spectacular 1859 light show happened today there would be many, many fried computers.

In Japan, real wasabi isn't expensive. But yes, most places around the world use a horseradish mix. I honestly didn't notice a huge difference between the two.

Well, both plants use the same chemical for the "spice" aspect.

Yeah, I noticed that first time I tried it. I eat with my mouth closed... usually. I learned real quick not to breathe through my nose when I'm eating wasabi. That stuff lit my world up...

Kinda reminded me of when I was trying to do a quiet soda burp. Just ain't worth it.
